The Broken Halo Chapter 26

Simon was taken aback by the sudden response of Zaglur. When he looked at Zaglur, he saw him making an irritated expression, and he was slightly confused. Fortunately, Zaglur enlightened him. "There is a rule that all Daegrins like me follow. Wealth over everything... Even power." Simon furrowed his brows slightly in thought. "Daegrins would always choose wealth over power. In fact, if we could live without worrying about the dangers of the demon realm and life itself, we wouldn’t even care about power." "We only care about wealth. Amassing as much wealth as possible before we die. Every Daegrin would always choose to have more wealth than power. It is in our blood." Simon looked at Zaglur, and he recalled what he knew about the Daegrins. On Earth, he and every other human who knew about the Daegrins considered them as treasure troves. They were like golden goblins in a game where once you killed a golden goblin, you get far more coins and more item drops than killing a normal goblin. That was what Daegrins were to him and every other human. Once somebody was able to kill a Daegrin, the items and rewards they received in their system storage would be beyond one’s imagination. If one was lucky, they would even find extremely rare items that would boost their talents or power level. He had killed a Daegrin as a Hero, and he knew just how many priceless treasures a Daegrin possessed. Although it looked like killing a Daegrin came with so many benefits, it also came with its fair share of dangers. The first was that every Daegrin that was found on Earth or in a bridge between both worlds was always at least an Archfiend. Daegrins were powerful, and with the treasures they had, they were even more dangerous because of their unpredictability. A Greater Demon would always be wary of an Archfiend Daegrin. But that was not all, once a human killed a Daegrin, they would become enemies of the entire Daegrin race. The killer of the Daegrin would be marked, and the entire Daegrin race would place a bounty on the Daegrin killer. This would make the human or demon wanted by every demon because the rewards on the Daegrin bounty list could even make certain demon kingdoms move. A light smile appeared on Simon’s lips as he recalled how more demons and even some humans who had sided with demons wanted to kill him because he killed a Daegrin. ’Good times.’ However, despite living over six decades killing demons, he knew very little about their culture, tradition, and so on. And if he was being honest, he didn’t care one bit about the traditions of demons. He hated them to the core. They killed his family and his girlfriend when their worlds first collided. They had taken so much from him, and all he wanted was to wipe them out of existence. The only reason why he had not released his killing intent, innate disgust, and anger at every single demon around him is because of how long he had lived. He knew that if he could not control his emotions, he would die. "So, Daegrins would always choose wealth over power, huh." Simon mumbled softly as he pondered on a few things, and Zaglur replied to him. "Yes. Every Daegrin would always choose wealth over power. We don’t engage in the power struggle all of you participate in. We just want wealth." Simon nodded slightly, then he looked to the side. They had been walking ever since they left the Duskfang Tribe, and he could finally see the Wildlands which the Ashborne Tribe forbade any lower tribe from exploring. ’It’s like a wilderness. A dead zone... I can’t see any demon beast because of him. The demon beasts can surely sense his aura, and it’s not a surprise no demon beasts are here.’ Simon inhaled deeply, then he asked another question without looking at Zaglur. "Would the process of you removing the Devourer’s bloodline from my body kill me?" Zaglur chuckled softly with a smile. "Most likely, but you have a chance of surviving. It’s better than you being eaten alive by another demon of the clan who wants the bloodline you stole." Zaglur glanced at him. "Aren’t I merciful?" Simon glanced at him and scoffed. "Merciful? You’re lying." Zaglur’s eyes flickered with a curious and surprised light. "And why do you say so?" "Because the reason why you want to use whatever method you have to extract the Devourer’s bloodline from me is not so that I have a small chance of surviving. You don’t care about my life or death at all." Zaglur shook his head. "Oh, no, no, no, no. I do care about your life and death, Blackmoon. You see, if you die, that means I’ve made a tremendous loss. Getting the Devourer’s bloodline cost me a lot. So, I do care about your life and death by a great deal, Blackmoon." Simon gave a fake smile. "Sure. Thanks." Zaglur smiled back. "As I was saying, the reason why you want to extract the bloodline from me is because you don’t want the demon from whatever stupid clan to taste my inferior bloodline, dirty and poorly developed body, and the fact that I’m extremely weak. You don’t want him or her to be dissatisfied so that your profit would still be the same and would not be reduced." Both Simon and Zaglur had stopped walking a few seconds ago, and Simon stared straight into Zaglur’s eyes as he spoke. Zaglur also stared straight into Simon’s eyes, and a flicker of surprise could be seen in Zaglur’s gaze when he saw that there was no hint of fear in Simon’s eyes. "You really are an intriguing little kid, Blackmoon. It’s too bad that you might die." Simon rolled his eyes, then he continued walking ahead of Zaglur. "By the way, where are we walking to? Do you Daegrins not have a better method of traveling? Or are you just poor?"
