“Mom?”
Lady Davison scoffed. “Are you going to choose right now or not?”
President Ethan turned his gaze at Valerie who was in tears, kneeling in front of his mother even though her ankle was twisted, and the pain was still there.
Rebecca smiled within herself. She knows how much Ethan loves his mother, and that they're so close to each other.
“He'll have no choice than to give in to his mother's desires.”
“Aunt, I think I've lost a lot of blood. I just need to go to the hospital.” Rebecca continued her charade.
Ethan glared at her. He felt like slapping her hard across the face. How could she lie to his face in this manner? He was so sure that he didn't lay his hands on her except for the slap, which was as a result of how Rebecca was treating Valerie. “This is not right, Mom. How can you make me choose between you and Miss Watson.”
“Is it too difficult for you to choose, Ethan? I am your mother, your birth mother. Are you going to choose that woman over me?” Lady Davison arched her brows.
Ethan snapped. “I'm finding it difficult to decide because she did absolutely nothing wrong. Mom, your granddaughter loves her so much. How is she going to cope without her?”
“I don't care what type of spell she must have cast on you and little Audrey. All I know is that you must throw this thwart out of the mansion this minute” Lady Davison harshly said.
Confused, Ethan stared at his mother. There was no way he would decide Valerie over his mother. Frankly, he knows how hurt his daughter would be if Valerie leaves the mansion.
Valerie, on the other hand, on seeing the tension between the mother and daughter, saw that she was putting the President in a difficult situation and got up from the ground where she was kneeling. “I would rather not be the reason there'll be problems in the house. I'm going to leave the mansion.”
“What?” Ethan widened his eyes.
Smiles escaped Rebecca's lips. Her prayers have finally been answered. Once the obstacle 'Valerie' leaves, she'll have Ethan fall in love with her. Then, when they get married, she'll teach the little girl a lesson.
“Yes, sir. I would rather leave than watch you and your mother have issues just because of me.” Valerie spoke with tears in the trace of her voice.
Lady Davison burst into laughter. “Excellent. It's a good thing you still have your conscience. I'll have your salary paid into your account, and you don't have to pack your stuff because the guards will do that to make sure you don't take anything that's not yours.”
Ethan was confused. He didn't know how exactly to stop Valerie from leaving the mansion. “Look, Valerie, you don't have to leave the house. I'll find a way to talk to my mother. Have you forgotten that Audrey would never be okay without you?”
Valerie smiled calmly. “She has always been okay without me. I hate to leave, but I just have to.”
Swiftly, He turned around to where his little Audrey was standing, but he didn't see her there anymore. “Where's Audrey?”
“Audrey! Audrey!!” Lady Davison's called.
Just then, footsteps approached from the stairs. Turning their gazes to the stairs, they saw Audrey dragging with her heavy luggage.
A gasp escaped Lady Davison's lips as she saw her. “Baby, what are you doing? You can't carry that. It's too heavy for you.”
Audrey didn't say a word. She kept mute, and continued dragging the luggage with her. It was obvious that her mind was made up. All she wanted was to drag the luggage down the stairs by herself.
Rebecca glared at her angrily. The little girl has always been a pin in the neck for her, and she wondered what her plans were. “Aunt, you don't have to scream so loud. Have you forgotten that you have to cautious about your health?” She patted Lady Davison's shoulder.
Valerie rushed towards the stairs, but her twisted ankle didn't let her go any further. “Audrey, you don't have to carry that. You'll fall.”
The guards walked out of the servant's quarters with Valerie's stuff. It wasn't much because she was not really a live-in nanny. “Here is her bag, ma'am.”
He dropped the bag in front of Lady Davison, who stared at the bag in disgust. “Are you sure you searched her bag thoroughly? I hope you cross-checked so that she won't take anything away?”
“Yes, ma'am.”
Audrey sniffed hard. “Miss old-fashioned, I'm going to follow you to anywhere you're going to.”
Immediately, Ethan rushed to his daughter and tried to take the luggage from her, but she refused. “Give me this, child.”
“No, daddy. If Grandma throws my Miss old-fashioned away, then I'll go with her.” She cried, still clinging to the luggage.
“You little… why would you want to go with a stranger?” Lady Davison freaked out.
“I don't want Miss old-fashioned to leave. I'm leaving with her.”
With that, Audrey rushed down the stairs and suddenly tripped. She rolled down the stairs.
“Audrey!” Valerie limped to her, and bent over, holding her in her arms as blood oozed out of her nostrils.
