THE NEXT DAY
Melinda decided she was going to do a half-day at work today because she wanted to sort out things with Alexander. She still did not have any plans on her mind yet but she was determined to reconcile with him today.
Melinda took a look at the time and saw that it was almost three in the afternoon. She searched for her phone and called her mother.
"Hi mom," Mel said.
"How are you, my child?" Michelle said from the other side.
"I'm fine, mom. How's dad?" Mel asked.
"He's fine," Michelle said.
"Is there anything bothering you sweetheart?" Michelle could not help but notice worry in her daughter's voice.
Melinda sighed, thinking of how to explain the whole issue to her mom.
"Is it about Alexander?" Her mom asked out of the blue.
"Yes," Mel whispered.
"He told me everything," Michelle said.
"He did?" Mel asked, shocked.
"Yes, he told your father and me the whole story."
"I don't know what to do mom," Mel said, clearly confused
"What does your heart tell you to do?" Michelle asks her daughter.
"To go to him, apologize and reconcile with him," Mel said.
"Then what is stopping you?" Michelle asks.
"The fear of him rejecting me. Telling me he no longer loves me." Mel said.
"You are overthinking," Michelle affirmed.
"Alexander had been miserable for the past couple of days. Please go to him and sort things out. No relationship is perfect my dear. We just have to make the best of it." Michelle said, hoping her stubborn daughter would heed to her advice.
"Is he at the Mansion?" Michelle asked, referring to Alex.
"No. He came for work this morning looking very sick so your father told him to take the day off."
"Sick?" Mel repeated as her heart started beating twice faster.
"Yes, my dear," Michelle replied with a sad voice.
"I will call you later mom. I need to go check on him." Mel said.
"Please do so my dear and make sure you both settle your differences," Michelle said.
"Yes, mom. I love you, bye." Mel said as she ended the call.
She started clearing her table and parking her stuff after which she exited her office and walked to the parking lot.
After buckling her seatbelt, Mel sighed and said a little prayer.
"God please take care of Alex. Let him be okay. Please lord.". . . .
This would be Melinda's first time in Alexander's apartment. As she got to the second floor where his apartment was located, she pressed the bell and waited for someone to open up.
After pressing the bell three times, The door opened, revealing a sick-looking Alex.
"Alex OMG," Mel said as tears fell from her eyes.
This is not the Alex she knew. She could almost not recognize him.
Alexander too was very surprised to see her. He never thought she would come looking for him.
He paved the way for Mel to enter and locked the door behind her.
Mel took a few steps towards him and placed her right hand on his forehead. "You are burning, Alexander." She said and more tears fell from her eyes.
"Hey stop crying, Mel. I will be fine." Alexander whispered, using his thumb to wipe away her tears.
"I'm so sorry Babe. I'm sorry for everything; for all that I put you through, Please forgive me." Melinda hugged him and sobbed on his shoulders.
"It's okay, my love. It's okay." Alex said as he kept on stroking her hair.
After a while, Mel stopped crying and she took Alex's hand in hers and took him to his bedroom where she told him to lie down and have some rest while she prepared soup for him.
Melinda was able to help herself around Alex's apartment. His apartment was not that big but it was cozy and had a homey feeling.
After making the soup, Mel dished a little in a bowl and put it on a tray with a glass of water then she proceeded to Alexander's room.
"My love, wake up. You have to eat something." Mel shook Alex who was already fast asleep.
Alexander opened his eyes and sat up. Mel sat in front of him and placed the tray on his lap.
"Thank you," Alex whispered before taking a spoonful of the chicken soup.
After he was done, Melinda took away the tray from him and gave him the glass of water which he drank very little.
She then came back with a piece of wet cloth which she placed on Alexander's forehead.
She crawled onto the bed beside him and put his head on her chest as she played with his hair.
Alexander felt whole immediately. They both stayed silent until they fell asleep. . . . .
Alex woke up feeling a lot better with Mel's hand wrapped around him.
He smiled and kissed her forehead. Immediately his lips made contact with her skin, she opened her eyes.
"Sorry I slept off," Mel said as she sat up on the bed. Alexander chuckled and followed suit.
She used her right hand to feel his forehead, then she noticed his body was warm after which she let out a sigh of relief.
"Alexander, I'm sorry for everything," Mel said, looking at him guiltily.
"I should be the one apologizing, babe. I'm sorry for hiding my past from you. If I had been truthful with you from the beginning, maybe all these would not have happened." Alexander said.
"Sorry about your mom. Sorry about Marian and your unborn child. Sorry about everything you had to go through in the past." Mel said sincerely while looking Alex in the eye.
"It's okay my love. You are here. That's all that matters." Alexander said.
"Yes. I couldn't take it anymore. Going one more day without seeing you is real torture" Mel admitted.
Alexander pulled Melinda closer to him and made her sit on his lap. He initiated a passionate kiss with her.
"I missed you, my love," Alex whispered the moment he pulled away from the hug.
"I missed you too sweetheart," Mel said as she gave him a quick kiss.
"Dee said you have not been feeling well and that you refused to go to the doctors," Alex said to Mel
"Yeah, It's just a bug infection. I will make sure I visit my doctor on Monday." Melinda said.
"Make sure you do, my love. I don't like the idea of you being sick. If you want I can come with you." He offered.
"You worry too much, Alex. I'm sure it's nothing. I will be fine." Mel said with a smile.
"Okay then. How about you go take a shower while I start making dinner for us." Alex suggested.
"Don't worry about what to wear, you can put on one of my shirts," Alex said and Mel nodded.
Alexander gave Mel a quick kiss on her forehead before he left her to take a shower.
