Today simply was not my day, starting from the point where Kat told me about a certain someone known, Chris Walker called me to inform me that we were leaving for a business meeting today and my boss, Xavier Knight did not have the brain to tell me that we were flying to California.
At least after that day when he told me about Alexander when he had seen me breaking down in front of him, he could have informed me. But no. I guess his hate towards me was far greater than anything.
After a long time, we reached California. From the airport, a limousine took everyone to the lavish five-star hotel. Maybe Xavier was used to Chris' overspending, but I was completely overwhelmed at the sight of the colossal building.
The receptionist gave each of us our keys. I was so exhausted after the long flight that I went straight to my room, instead of going to the dining area with everyone else.
The room looked really luxurious. There was a round bed in the middle and a small work desk at one side, but the best thing was the floor-to-ceiling glass window beside the bed, showing off the view of the entire city.
There were two doors in the room. The first one led to a huge living area where there was a sofa set, a large LED in the middle, an open kitchen on one side, and a small bar beside the kitchen. I chose to explore this place later and went to the washroom by the other door.
After the stressful day, I really needed a warm bath. The bathroom was just as beautiful as the rest of the suite so after stripping out my clothes, I lay down inside the jacuzzi and let the warm water wash away my stress.
An hour later, I left the bathroom after wearing my red silk nightgown that ended midway through my thigh. My hair was wet and messily falling down the shoulder.
After closing the curtains, I decided to drink coffee or something. Stepping inside the living area, I trudged towards the kitchen. I was so tired that, instead of brewing coffee, I decided to look for some fruits inside the fridge. There were all sorts of fruits and vegetables inside, but I took a carton of juice instead.
I was busy relishing the taste when the sound of the door opening reached my ears. My eyes moved to the door opposite to the door to my room, which I did not notice before.
Before I could think of anything, a man walked out of that door in his briefs. His hair was wet and the drops of water running down on his torso. His eyes widened when he noticed me and that was when I realized what I was wearing. I heard him muttering different kinds of profanities under his breath when I turned my face away, and I was damn sure my face looked like a tomato by now.
"How did you get inside my room?" He asked in a controlled voice.
Absent-mindedly, putting my hands in front of my cleavage that was peeking through the neckline of the gown, I said, "It's… it's my room." More like stuttering.
"What?" He blurted out, utterly confused.
"Yeah, I even have keys," I said and went inside to bring them out for him.
When I got back, I saw him running his fingers through his hair in irritation and now he was wearing his black Nike shorts and had his phone in his hand.
I saw him dialing someone's number, and when the receiver picked up the call, he asked, "Why am I sharing a suite with Miss Williams?"
The person on the other end might have said something stupid as Xavier growled in frustration, "Don't play dumb Chris. It is not a fucking mistake." He groaned when Chris hung up on him.
"It's fine. You don't have to worry about me. I would not leave my room." I said and his eyes softened a bit.
Feeling helpless at the lack of control over the situation, he walked into his room and shut the door with a bang.
All the sleep had evaporated from my eyes and when I closed my eyes again, the image of him flashed through my eyes and I let out a small groan.

Waking up in the morning, the first thought that crossed my mind was that Xavier was just a room away from me. The entire night, my stomach was twisted in knots at the idea of having him this close to me, so close that I could just go in his room and beg for his forgiveness, that I could just hug him just like old times and feel his heartbeat against mine.
Pulling my mind out of these thoughts, I walked out of the bed and peeked through the door connecting to the lounge. I needed my morning coffee and there was a coffee maker in the kitchen. But I told him last night that I'd stay in my room.
Well, one cup of coffee wouldn't take that long.
Tiptoeing towards the kitchen, I made sure not to make any noise. While I searched for a cup, the door to his room opened and he came out, stretching his arms over his head and letting out a cute yawn.
He wasn't wearing a shirt and still was in his black shorts. Despite constantly telling myself not to look at the hard contours of his torso, I did. The thing that made him even more attractive and special was his genuine behavior, the one before I betrayed him. I knew that man was still there, hiding under the mask he showed me.
I've seen the glimpses of his true self when he was with Alexander, the warmth, the love, and the care for his son.
He hadn't realized my presence yet and when he did, his face immediately hardened as he said, "You!"
