I will honor My brother above everything
Maximus POV
It is not much for me to do except worry and wait while Marcus handles the time and location for the destruction of Alpha Ranon. Marcus knows where Alpha Ranon is located, but we cannot exactly just walk into his pack, grab Kayla and leave with a commotion. The minute we grab Kayla, all hell will break loose, and I am ready to fight for her. Marcus insists we need a plan, and Marcus is the better wolf to make the plan. I want to walk into Alpha Ranon’s house, behead him and chuck him to his wolves. I want to see him hurt, and in my anger, I could risk the life of Luna Kayla. That would not be what my brother would want. Soran would want my ultimate goal to be to save Luna Kayla. I will honor My brother above everything.
"Max," Marcus calls out to me. I get up from the porch step. I finish my beer and follow my brother into the house. It is so eery being here. I know Marcus does not feel that way, but to me, there are too many ghosts in this house, and I hate being here. That is why I suggested we give this land to Kayla. Marcus and Mindy have a home. I do not want to be here. Kayla has no one and nowhere to call home. I will help her build this place to its former bubbling wolf population, but first, we have to get her here.
"Yeah, did you figure out how to get Kayla away from that monster?" I ask Marcus. He knows what I want to do, and I can see it all over his face, a plan to try to keep me from killing an entire wolf pack. I want to avenge my brother, but Kayla is the priority first. Her safety and then my revenge.
"Max, there is a celebration tonight, and we are invited," Marcus says.
"He is celebrating killing our brother, and he invited us to come!" I growl. Marcus steps back. He is smaller than me. When I am angry, I tower over my younger brother.
"He plans to marry Kayla and take her as his mate," Marcus says.
I begin pacing back and forth. I growl, I punch the wall, and finally, I stop. I take a deep breath and look at my younger brother, who is trying to remain calm in this situation. I have never understood how Marcus and Soran could always remain calm. Not me, I am the hot head, the kill them all and sort it out later wolf. I take after our mother. Although mother was one of the kindest wolves you would ever meet, she also, like me, had one hell of a temper. I guess that is why we always clashed over the years. "What are we going to do, Marcus? What is your plan to get our brother's wife to safety?" I growl.
My brother pauses and gives me a moment to just be angry, then he steps up to me. "Max, please let me explain everything, and then you can be angry or protest or whatever you need to do so we can get this show on the road. We do not have a lot of time," Marcus says.
"Okay, Marcus. Lay it all out for me," I say to him.
I take a seat at the kitchen table. I hate being here more and more. I hear my mother and father's voice speaking to me as I sit here waiting for Marcus to lay out his plan. I can hear Soran laughing and joking as he always did. Marcus has always been the level-headed one. This place is an emotional train wreck for me.
"Ranon plans to marry Kayla tonight. He is trying to hurry things along to get us off him. Thankfully we have a little help on the inside. A wolf reached out to Mindy and told her everything. She is trying to protect Kayla, but she said things are bad for Kayla and that Ranon has already hurt her pretty badly," Marcus says.
I know what he means. He means that Alpha Ranon has raped her and probably beaten her. "How bad?" I ask.
I am not sure I want the answer. "The wolf that is helping us wants out too. She is Alpha Ranon's sister, and she desperately wants away from him. She told Mindy he would kill her for her betrayal. She said she cannot watch what he is doing anymore," Marcus says.
I slam my fist into the table. "HOW BAD HAS HE HURT HER!" I growl.
"I do not know. She only said it was bad and that we needed to get her out of there. Kayla is not completely compliant with him. She is fighting at times and compliant at times. If she fights him, he could kill her," Marcus says.
"He will kill her, but first, he will try to break her," I say.
I can feel the well of anger forming in me, and I want to explode. I want to go straight to this wedding and rip Alpha Ranon's head off. I begin breathing hard just thinking about what he is doing to her and how much he has hurt her. I have to save her for my brother.
"I have a plan. We can get her before the ceremony, but we need to hurry, and I need you to remain calm. If things go sideways, then by all means kill them all, but if we can just get Luna Kayla and the wolf protecting her out, then let's do it without losing any more life tonight," Marcus says.
"What about the next she-wolf he kidnaps? Should he not pay for this atrocity with his life?" I ask.
Marcus knows I am right. If we let Alpha Ranon live, his reign of terror will continue. "Fine new plan, get her out and her protector safely, then kill them all. Are you happy now?" Marcus asks me.
I stand up from the table, towering over Marcus again. "I will be happy when he is dead, and she is safe," I say
