"They want what in literally just a day and a halfs time?" My eyes I know are bugged out, with my voice a little pitchy for even my liking.
Valan nods her head. "Yeah, it is a lot to ask for. It is just this event is very important and the caterer they had hired previous backed out last minute with the high demands the owner is wanting. They were given more than enough time, but they fell short."
"That is strange how a company just backs out like that if they had been given the time to complete it by." I scrunch up my face.
Valan shrugs. "The owner is very strict but knows what he likes. It was more due to staffing for the previous company. I can say that the price he is willing to pay up front and in full is twice as much."
"How did you catch wind of this? Nothing this big has been posted in any of the major sites where caterers can go and apply for the event." I raise an eyebrow at my best friend.
If there was something like that I would have applied for my company to cater for it.
"The event is actually Laken's, work." Valan smiles lightly.
"The owner has had the same catering company for years and was used for the original owner, but they couldn't do it this time. Laken came to me immediately and was wondering if we could do it."
"What company are we talking about? Laken must work for someone that is really up there." I finally ask, something I have never asked before. It wasn't my business to know anything more than what Valan or Laken gave me. I only knew the basics about Laken which he he works and loves Valan.
"Scenix Clothing." Valan smiles happily, obviously proud of her husband.
My jaw drops. "What the heck! Valan that is the biggest womens fashion line on the market and has been for years. How did Laken get into working there?"
Just because I don't use my money on expensive things doesn't mean I don't know about them. I am not a mole in the ground.
"Laken is actually great friends with the owner, they had grown up together. Kinda of like the family trait." Valan laughs lightly.
"You don't get jealous that Laken is friends with a female and works with her all day long?" I ask and fix our fatijas.
Valan holds her stomach and just about falls off the stool, laughing so hard. She fans her face with one hand.
"I think you may get a shock of your life at the event. I got to tell them what you said." She barely gets out for laughing.
I slide her plate over and take a bite of mine.
"So will you please say we will do this event?" Valan wipes her eyes.
"Yes, we will do the event. I didn't realize it was that close for you, so there is no way I would deny it. Besides, you know I love the challenge and this is sure going to be one to get everything prepped and precooked. Do you have a list on the types of food they are expecting?"
I wolf down my food, as fast as my mouth can handle. Dinner is needed but I don't have time to waste.
"Yes, I have the list right here." Valan rushes out in between bites.
She knows what I am doing and seems to be doing the same with stuffing in our food quickly. Not the most lady like, but we are in my home so it doesn't matter to me in the least.
I place my plate in the sink and grab my phone from the counter. I call Naida and wait as it rings in my ear.
'Hello.'
'Hey, Naida. We have a job and it is a big one.'
'Say no more, I am on the way. Kelvin is at the store.' Naida replies.
I knew he was because its Thursday night and he holds a class tonight.
'He doesn't have any classes scheduled for Saturday night by chance?' I ask.
'Let me check the calendar here.' I hear as Naida's keys jingles through the phone. 'Nope, so it is just the normal store hours Saturday.'
'That is great because we need his help for the event Saturday evening to night hours.'
Naida and I bid our goodbyes with her on her way over.
I move back to the counter and Valan is rinsing her plate out. My fingers touch the list Valan laid out and I look over it all.
"One thing I will say, the owner has weird taste for these to be the foods they wish to have." I nod slowly over the very strange list.
"This is just the recommendation the owner asks for but completely understands if we are not able to complete everything within the time space given." Valan looks up from her phone.
"You know? Giving that your husband works for the owner and best friends, you really don't wear the fancy clothes much either. Makes sense why your dresses are from that line though." I tease Valan.
"The dresses I have is what Laken designed, you actually have a few of them too. I guess I am like you though prefer to not flaunt the money." Valan laughs.
"One thing is easy for Saturday at least." I sigh.
"What is that?" Valan hums.
"I better wear one of the Scenix dresses I have. It would look all types of wrong to wear something else."
We both fall into laughter.
Naida opens the back door and sits her things down.
I hand her the list as Valan and I fill her in completely on the new tasks we have.
"Well, I got ahold of Kelvin and he is ready too." Naida smiles.
"I will send Bub, a message and let him know to wear the best suite he has too. This is got to be the largest we have every worked." I smile.
"That is saying something too though. We have done major jobs for big people but this one is definitely up there." Naida gets a little white.
"Trust me they are normal people too. Well the owner and workers are normal acting people. Look at the three of us we have money but work a normal job and don't act all snobby." Valan smiles.
"I didn't come from money though, literally just married into it." Naida shakes her head.
"So, your still an amazing person." Valan gives her a side hug.
I wash my hands up again and walk over to the pantry door. Inside the pantry, I pull everything out we need for the easiest on the list that can be made first due to lasting the longest and staying fresh.
