Chapter 98: Chapter 95: September Confession
Wen Xian had a complete emotional outburst in his arms, showing him the most embarrassing and vulnerable side of herself.
For twenty-four years, she had never been in front of anyone. All her physical pain and spiritual despair were like shattered teeth covered in blood that she had to forcefully swallow down into her own stomach, bearing it all alone.
When Wen Xian finally eased away from his embrace after an indeterminate amount of crying, she looked at the tear and snot stains on his clothes, her eyes red and still hiccupping occasionally, and said hoarsely, “Lu, Lu Xiao, I’m sorry, I’ve dirtied your clothes.”
Lu Xiao looked down at her, watching her reddened eyes and the tip of her little red nose. He lifted his hand and gently wiped the tear streaks from her face, humming softly, “It’s okay.”
Wen Xian was beautiful, even when crying, she was stunning, but more than that, it was heartbreaking. She looked so pitiful that one’s heart twisted and seemed about to crack for her.
The man gazed at her reddened eyes, seeming to want to do more, to offer her deeper comfort, but in the end, it turned into deep restraint hidden at the bottom of his eyes.
Wen Xian stopped crying, only sniffling intermittently. Such uncontrollable emotions were beyond her grasp; human feelings were always so complex.
Oftentimes, it’s unknown which particular thing in life pricks the sensitive part of the heart.
Now, as she gradually realized that her emotions had broken down in front of Lu Xiao, and after they had slightly distanced themselves from each other, her gaze seemed suddenly unsettled, as if still awkward and embarrassed.
She felt really ashamed and didn’t know what Lu Xiao would think of her.
At the moment, she was still hiccupping occasionally, and with downcast eyes, she spoke to him hoarsely with a thick nasal voice, “I, I’ll go to the car first.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
Only after having vented did she realize how embarrassing it was, the first time in twenty-four years.
And also the last time, she thought.
She didn’t want anyone else to see her fragility and sensitivity.
Lu Xiao, however, stared at her retreating back, a tinge of darkness slowly settling in the depth of his eyes, his hands clenching slightly.
Suddenly, a sharp cry rang out, Wen Xian’s body swayed, and she collapsed onto the grass.
Lu Xiao rushed over immediately, looking at her frowning and pale-faced, then his eyes fell on her ankle, “What happened!?”
Wen Xian moved her ankle, wincing with pain and inhaling sharply, then bit her lip with embarrassment, “So-sorry, I accidentally twisted my ankle.”
