Kyle Greenwood’s POV
"I am sorry, Kyle," Mum said to me after Brian walked the doctor out of Dad's room, Dad too is alright now and listening when Mum apologised.
"I am sorry for hooking you up with Sonia like that," Mum continues, "I thought she is in love with you, I was thinking that was the case son, that was why I insisted on you getting married to her and besides, I thought you two were best of friends, I mean, I have seen the way you two were with each other before only, I did not know why you suddenly hated her and you never said a thing," Mum said.
"Well, Mum, I did not say anything because I had no evidence to prove what Sonia did, and I did not know things were out of hand as it is, I did not know that Kimberly would be pregnant for me and that she would have the baby, I mean babies, besides, I have told you countless times that I did not love Sonia but you keep pressurizing me to marry her, you and Dad," I said looking from Mum to Dad who just kept staring at me without saying anything.
"All the same, Kyle, I am so sorry, I do not know how I let myself be deceived by her, I mean, the nerve of that girl to deceive me the way she did, I used to think that I have found for my second son another perfect wife," mum said.
Perfect indeed, I said within me, I know she considered Belinda, Brian's wife a perfect woman, but I do not know why I still do not consider her that even though we have no personal rift with her.
"You are not the only one, darling," Dad finally said to Mum rather slowly but in a very deep voice and his face too looked so gloomy, I do not think I have seen him like this before, he looks like he has been deep in thought and deeply troubled.
"Imagine I, Gregory Greenwood, at my age and level I allow myself to be deceived by her too, I have never been deceived by anyone like this in my entire life, I did not know how I allowed that little brat of a girl deceive me like this, I am so ashamed of myself right now, I mean, I should have listened to you Kyle, when you said that you did not love her, only, you are too stubborn to reason with," Dad said too, looking at me.
I stared at him without knowing what to say to him, I am his son, I said in my heart, who else will I take after, he is stubborn as well, I said again within me.
"Anyway, I think it's time I find you another wife," Dad said, "I do not want this scandal with Sonia to go out of control and dent our reputation, I will need to make a statement immediately to address this issue and then sought for another wife to replace her immediately," Dad said again, still in that deep voice of his.
"Excuse me, Dad," I said looking at him, I remember what I told him earlier about me having feelings for Kimberly.
"What is it, Kyle," Dad asked staring at me.
"Dad, I do not think looking for another woman is an option...."
"What do you mean by that, Kyle?" Dad asked, interrupting me "do not tell me that you are talking about that woman, Kimberly," Dad asked raising his voice a little at me but Mum placed her hand on his immediately trying to calm him down I think, he turned to look at mum for a while and then back at me.
"Dad," I called and continued, "I am in love with that woman, Kimberly, and I would like her to be my Bride, I want her to be the woman I will marry, Dad," I told him plainly, "she has kids for me already, Dad, I already have a family with that woman and I love her still, I have explained that to you, the story of how we happened, I told you, dad, I told you all out there," I added, looking from him to Mum.
"Kyle, that woman is not the kind of woman I would like to be my daughter in law," Dad said outrightly.
"Excuse me, Dad, what do you want from a daughter-in-law other than a daughter-in-law that would love your son and also a good woman, or is that not what you want for your son?" I said and asked looking at Dad, trying not to be angry at him because of his health condition, the doctor said earlier that we should not do anything that will trigger his heart condition again, else, he might get a stroke as a result of it, so I am trying my best to try and be reasonable with him.
"As much as I want a woman that will love my son to be his wife, I also want a woman with class, so that she can fit into our Society, that woman Kimberly or whatever she is called, she cannot fit into this class of ours and you know it, you heard her earlier she did not even finish school she did not finish high school she dropped out of school..."
"Yes, Dad, she dropped out because of me, I am the reason why she dropped out, Dad, I got her pregnant that is why she could not continue with her education, besides dad, I do not need a classy wife, what I need is a woman I love who will love me back," I said interrupting Dad and still trying my best to hold back the rising anger in me and to sound normal.
"Hold on guys, I do not think this is the right time to be talking about this," mum said looking for me to dad and I know that she is right.
"Darling, you have to let this be, for now, take some rest, that's what the doctor said, it is enough for today, we can figure this out later," mum told Dad calmly, her palm still on dad's palm.
"I hope you are not considering allowing that lady to be our daughter-in-law," Dad asked her.
Mum looked at me for a while and then back to Dad, "Darling, I do not want us to continue with this topic for now," Mum told Dad, and still in a calm manner.
"I hope you are not going to take your son's side on this," Dad said again, peering at Mum.
"Look darling, I am not taking sides and it is not about taking a side either, as much as I have had a clash with that woman before and knowing that she has no class or degree, I think we should still give her a chance," Mum said and before Dad could say anything Mum continues talking again to my surprise because she has never done this before in my presence.
"Yes, darling, she spoke very rudely to me earlier, the both of us actually but I think she did that because she was angry, I forgive her and I think we should give her a chance, she is the woman Kyle said he loves, I mean, we chose Sonia before because of class and look..., imagine where in got us to, if this thing between Kimberly and Kyle did not come out like this, do you think we would have ever found out that Sonia is not even planning on giving us grandkids," mum said looking at Dad.
Dad stayed silent after mum stopped talking and staring blankly at nothing in particular I guess, and I think he is thinking about what mum just said.
"Has that woman agreed to marry you?" Dad asked again looking into my eyes.
"I have not told her about that yet, Dad, so I do not know if she would agree to marry me yet," I replied.
"Why then did you say you want to marry her when you have not spoken to her yet about it?" Dad asked.
"Well, I am working on it, Dad, and I would also appreciate your help," I replied looking from Mum to Dad.
"Let talk about this later, Kyle, let your dad rest for now," Mum told me.
"Okay, mum," I replied.
"Make sure those kids do not leave this house, I want my grandkids to be well taken care of, Alex, especially," Dad said.
"Dad, those kids are my kids, and my responsibility, I will not want you imposing your rule on them as you did with me and Brian," I told Dad, I thought to make that clear now so that he knows his place, I want my kids to live a normal life and not waste their childhood following dad's rules.
"Shut up, Kyle, you are talking to your dad," Mum said before Dad could say anything.
"See you later, Dad, Mum," I said and then, made my way out of Dad's room as I do not want to ague any further with him.
I have to see Kimberly though, I need to try and convince her to marry me...and I am willing to do whatever it takes...
