It was the Eastern Plaza de la Magnifique overlooking the big Eastern Ocean awash with lights and fanfare.
“Marcus and Dana Giannio have just arrived. Hmm, Millie, I wonder if this couple will bring the spice to the carpet like they did last year, what do you think?”
“Definitely.”
Rachel forced herself to calm down. She always was a wreck of nerves before major events like this but this was much worse because she was now a disgraced TV host. Hopefully, some of the elites would be merciful and sympathize with her?
Nate's fingers squeezed her waist. “You are trembling.”
“I’m nervous,” she confessed.
“You are with me.”
That was supposed to be comforting. Rachel smiled at his arrogance. The man was full of it it was a surprise he wasn’t bursting with his ego. Good thing he had the shoulders for an ego as huge as that.
They were behind a new break-out couple that had starred in a new show directed by the renowned Emilia Cartridge, a trailblazer like her name indicated.
The cameras turned on them in an instant and they were in the glaring spotlights.
“Ohh it’s Nate Madden in an Armani suit! Does he get any hotter?" Tilda, the event’s presenter for the evening, was saying into her long microphone batting her lashes at Nate. Then her sharp eyes fell on Rachel and she paused before letting out a gasp. “And is that THE Rachel Rivers hanging on his arm? Well well well Millie,” she said to her companion, “me thinks the fashion week just got spicier.”
The cameras went crazy.
Millie droned on in agreement with Tilda. Rachel barely listened. She reminded herself to breathe. As soon as their pictures were taken, before they were hounded by many TV presenters Nathaniel pulled her aside, down the hall and into one of the dressing rooms. She gasped in surprise. Was he going to begin now?
“There’s something I have to tell you,” he said. “I may not be with you throughout the night. I know this is coming as a surprise but can you manage alone?”

From the corner of her eyes, Nate was smiling into the cameras frustratingly confident with one hand in his pocket and the other around her waist. Was he now touching the remote waiting to humiliate her out here?
“Is this your plan?” she blurted out.
“What?”

Soon they were being ushered to the rooftop where the event was to hold. As if the media downstairs wasn’t enough more cameras were flashing in their faces.
