Night enveloped them like a soft velvet shawl drizzled with roses and infused with moonbeams. The Queen held fast to the Duke—not as a monarch, not as a king—but as a woman from the heart, wanting to pilfer one unattainable moment in an existence full of restraint. Silence rested heavy in the air, punctuated by the distant whisper of a court melody and the gentle exhale of an agitated breeze. Amidst the quiet, the palace felt filled with things unspoken, promises unsaid, and an exhilarating tension that wound tighter with each passing heartbeat.
Leon’s arms surrounded her with a steady heat—unshaken and certain.
Sona’s legs clamped around his waist, holding on to him as if he was the only stable thing remaining in her life. Her ass dipped in the soft curve beneath one hand, which lifted her with ease, and cradled her lower back in the confident grasp of a man who knew precisely where she should be.
Her warm, uneven breath grazed softly against his throat. Underneath her, she could feel the resolute pounding of his heart—strong and unshakable—soothe the erratic beat of her own.
Her fingers were clenched in a tight grasp around his shoulders, clutching tightly to the tunic fabric as if she feared to release it. And still, he did not move.
Leon glided through the garden moonlight as a shadow born of fire and silver—silent, confident, and implacably meticulous. Every step was calculated, as if his burden was to be held within his arms. as if she were meant to be held there.
The manner in which he grasped her said everything—so much more than words ever could.
He wasn’t letting her go.
They arrived at the edge of the garden where granite archways towered and guards stood vigilant. This was their first real challenge.
Pushing Sona’s back into a corner of shadow, Leon pressed her against the chilly granite. One arm wrapped around her spine with gentle firmness; the other held the softness of her hips, fingers splaying just enough to anchor her shaking form.
Sona held her breath, heart hammering fiercely in her ears. The guards glanced briefly, hesitated, then moved on. In that fragile instant, every risk they’d taken pulsed through her chest like wildfire. The danger felt intoxicating—thrilling in its forbiddenness.
He brushed a quiet kiss to her lips—soft and fleeting—but it carried the weight of every promise they shared.
"Let go," he whispered urgently. "We can’t stay here."
She nodded, pushing herself closer to him. As one, they moved out of the secret path of the garden and into the stone walkway of core palace filled with twilight.
Pressing her face against his neck, her lips hovered just off his skin as she whispered, "Leon. this is madness."
His stride never changed. His boots clicked noiselessly over frozen stone, his body firm beneath hers.
"Freedom," he whispered, his voice low and taunting, his golden eyes glinting in the moonlight. "Only fools—or lovers—dare to pursue it."
A laugh caught in her throat, but came out instead as a soft, breathless sigh.
They came to the garden’s hedge-bounded rim, where the cobblestone path wound gently towards the royal road. Past it, a stone archway contained a small cluster of guards standing stiff, their eyes keen and watchful.
Leon pushed her back against the darkened wall of a pillar, his chest against hers. Her legs tightened reflexively as his hands reached around to her hips, holding tightly and drawing her closer. His mouth skimmed over her ear, his voice faltering to a low whisper.
"Shh... don’t make a sound," he whispered, hardly louder than the breeze. "Unless you dare them to turn around."
Her teeth sank into her lip, voice shaking with a blend of urgency and terror. "L-Léon... what if they hear or see us?"
His hold on her hip tightened by mere millimeters, firm and reassuring. "They won’t. Trust me."
Her breath caught, heart racing like a war drum, but after a long, tremulous second, she nodded slightly, almost imperceptibly—mute agreement laced with tentative hope.
The chilled stone bore down cool upon her shoulders, a bitter contrast to the flames that blazed deep within. Leon’s fingers remained firmly planted upon her hips, holding her fast in the darkness, his touch possessive and controlled. Slow, measured movements—there were too many eyes around, and a sudden movement would give them away.
His breath caressed gently against her ear. "We must be cautious," he whispered, voice low and even, "but I cannot stay away from you."
She swallowed hard, her heart pounding not just from need but from danger they were courting. Her fingers curled slightly against his chest, holding on as his eyes sought hers—calm but piercing.
There was a silence between them, heavy with all that had not been said. Then, suddenly but impeccably timed, his mouth laid soft on hers—a whispered vow, not a demand.
The kiss deepened incrementally, slow and tentative like a secret known only to them. Her breath caught, and she leaned in closer, defying the world to see, even as the guards waited immediately outside the archway, oblivious to this stolen moment.
"Leon," she breathed against his lips, her voice shaking with fear and yearning, "if anyone tries—"
His finger touched her lips gently but firmly, silencing her before she had a chance to talk. His eyes burned with hot protectiveness as he warned softly, "Not tonight. Just believe me."
He backed away a little, his eyes locked on hers, a lazy, leering smile on his lips. "But just if you keep making those sweet noises, Your Majesty. Then, might we caught otherwise No chance we caught!"
Her heart give thump but a deep flush colored her cheeks, heat blossoming there. "You are unbearable."
Leaning in, he brushed a tender kiss across her lips, playful yet filled with yearning. "And yet," he whispered, "you’re still right here, in my arms."
Her natural reaction was to protest, but his hand crept up her spine, fingers outlining the fragile arc of her ribs beneath the thin silk of her dress. The gentle touch was agonizing in its restraint, a sudden warmth sweeping through her as her nipples pushed against the thin material.
"Leon," she breathed again, glance darting nervously toward the guards standing just a few feet away. "Stop. We can’t— "
"I know," he breathed, voice low and steady.
