He turned toward Natasha.
"Lucky for me, Nat was already geared up. She had Agni and Rudra with her—those demon weapons Dave gave us. The second Bucky showed up, she brought him down. Quick. Clean."
"We captured him mostly to figure out why he was targeting me," Fury continued. "But once we started digging through his gear, we found evidence... connections. To you, Steve."
Natasha stepped forward, arms crossed, her voice calm but firm.
"He’s not the same. He’s stronger now. Faster. His reflexes—his coordination—it’s like someone re-engineered him. He’s been modified beyond just Hydra’s old tricks."
Shuri nodded from the console, bringing up Bucky’s biological scan.
"Cellular resilience, neural reinforcement... and traces of Super Soldier Serum. Someone upgraded him using the Serum as you Steve."
Shuri’s fingers flew over the controls, deepening the scan results. "His neural inhibitors are artificial. Someone re-engineered his nervous system—microthreaded implants are laced through his brainstem. He’s not being influenced emotionally. He’s being remote-driven."
Bruce’s expression hardened. "That’s why he’s faster, more precise. His reaction time is tuned beyond what even a standard Super Soldier can do. They didn’t just enhance him—they’re piloting him like a weaponized drone with a human core."
Tony muttered under his breath, "That’s next-gen war tech. Whoever’s behind this didn’t just want a better assassin—they wanted deniability. A human guided missile with plausible disconnection."
Natasha looked to Steve. "He didn’t say a word during the attack. Everything about the strike was by the numbers. It’s not just that they’ve rebuilt Bucky—he’s just a template."
"Are you saying Bucky no longer has his own sense of self?" Steve asked quietly, standing near Bucky’s capsule.
Shuri nodded. "Yes. But don’t worry—I can repair the neurological pathways. I can bring him back."
Dave stepped forward, arms crossed. "There’s no need to wait. I can help him right now." .com
Steve glanced over as Dave placed his hand gently on the capsule, focusing.
"Divine Magic: Total Rebirth," Dave said softly as golden magic circles enveloped the entire Bucky capsule. Arcane energy poured into him, glowing with warmth and power. Bucky’s body tensed as the magic surged through him—his metal arm detached and fell to the floor with a dull clang.
In its place, new flesh began to form. Tendons knitted, muscles coiled, and skin sealed shut. Within moments, a perfectly human arm had grown in its place, unmarred and whole.
Dave stepped back. "He should be fine now."
Shuri ran a quick scan, her eyes wide in disbelief. "Incredible... his vitals are stabilized. All cybernetics are gone. You’ve completely rebuilt his physiology... it’s like he was never enhanced at all. Just pure human—no implants, no tech."
Tony muttered under his breath, "And here I thought I had the coolest toys..."
Steve stepped closer to the pod as it hissed open. Bucky slowly sat up, blinking against the light, his breathing unsteady.
He stared down at his arm—his real arm—and flexed his fingers, stunned.
"Steve...?" he asked, voice hoarse.
Steve smiled softly, stepping in. "Yeah. I’m here, Buck."
Bucky looked around the room, confusion still settling in his eyes. "I... I remember being trapped. I remember orders... pain. But then... light. Warmth."
Dave remained silent, arms crossed, watching carefully.
Natasha approached slowly. "You were hijacked. Someone turned you into a weapon again. But you’re free now."
Bucky’s brows furrowed. "Free...? Then why does it still feel like... he’s out there?"
Fury leaned in. "Who, Bucky? Who did this to you?"
Bucky looked from him to Steve, his expression strained.
"I... I don’t remember," he said quietly.
Dave nodded thoughtfully. "Then it’s possible they tampered with your memory too. Deep cognitive damage—likely deliberate."
Bucky turned slowly, scanning the room and the people around him. His voice was low, uncertain.
"Where am I? Who are they?"
Steve placed a hand on his shoulder, steady and reassuring.
"It’s okay. You’re safe now, Buck. That’s Shuri. That’s Tony. Nat, Bruce... we’re the team."
Bucky slowly sat back, taking it all in. "This... this all really happened, huh?"
He leaned back in the chair and exhaled sharply, the weight of fragmented memories pressing against his mind.
Just then, a maid stepped into the room silently, carrying a tray of water.
But before she could even reach him, Bucky’s eyes darted toward a nearby shelf.
"I’d rather have that one," he said, pointing to a chilled bottle of ale on the table nearby.
She paused, then turned to Dave.
Without a word, Dave walked over, picked up the bottle, and passed it to Bucky.
Bucky twisted off the cap without hesitation and drank deeply, the cool liquid grounding him.
"Now... I feel a little better," he muttered.
Dave gave a small nod. "Good to know."
Bucky looked around again, his eyes finally settling back on Steve.
"Tell me what happened after I fell off that train," he asked quietly, his voice thick with buried pain. "I only remember fragments. Nothing clear. Just... darkness. Pain. Then voices—calling me the Winter Soldier."
Steve nodded solemnly and pulled up a chair, sitting across from him.
"You were taken by Hydra. They experimented on you. Gave you a cybernetic arm and pumped you full of a modified Super Soldier Serum. Every time you started to remember who you were... they wiped you. Again and again."
Bucky’s jaw tightened. "I didn’t do anything... but I also didn’t stop anything either."
Steve looked him in the eye. "None of that was your fault, Buck. You were their prisoner. Their weapon."
He paused, then added softly, "But you fought your way back."
Bucky’s gaze drifted down to his hands, flexing his now-human fingers, courtesy of Dave’s magic-enhanced healing. "Still feels like there’s blood on them."
Meanwhile, across the room, Dave spoke with Shuri while Natasha and Bruce stood nearby.
"So, Shuri," Dave asked, nodding toward the readings, "how advanced is this tech?"
"I mean... can people like Bucky be mass-produced?"
Fury folded his arms and turned to listen as well.
Shuri gave a small sigh, then tapped a few keys to pull up a model of Bucky’s internal modifications.
"It’s not impossible to mass-produce someone like him," she said carefully. "But it’s far from easy. Creating even one enhanced subject like Bucky would take an incredible amount of time and resources." f.re(e) w.e(b)nov el.c.om
"So, how long are we talking?" Fury asked.
Shuri responded, "At best? One per year—if they’re lucky. Maybe less. The process needs perfect synchronization between biomechanical implants and enhanced cellular regeneration. And that’s not something any ordinary lab can do."
