The drone flew slowly through the mountain range, and even though it was deep into the night, it never once let its guard down. Utilizing the mountains and terrain to conceal its presence, it carefully tracked the envoy of the Assassin Sect ahead. The envoy was exceedingly cunning; after escaping the valley, he first cautiously fled to the south, then turned east, and continued heading south again.
Yan Fei, sitting inside the drone, monitored the Assassin Sect envoy’s erratic movements and found no discernible pattern, noting that the route seemed to diverge further from the correct location he had previously deduced. Despite sensing something was amiss, Yan Fei did not interfere with the envoy’s movements.
Sure enough, after several changes in direction, the envoy shifted his course from west to northeast, heading straight for the area Yan Fei had suspected earlier. This time his path was a direct line, no longer meandering.
After all the circling, more than four hours had passed and the sky was beginning to lighten. The drone, equipped with powerful quantum radar, was not worried about losing track of a single individual, so it hung back behind the envoy without arousing suspicion. Even so, the envoy remained extremely cautious, making several more loops before returning to the main path.
As the envoy pressed on, Yan Fei confirmed that his destination was indeed the region suspected to be the headquarters of the Assassin Sect. The envoy moved swiftly among the steep mountains, occasionally hiding his figure and vocalizing false signals to throw off any potential followers, exhibiting great caution. However, with the quantum radar’s scanning, these maneuvers were quite comical.
In the end, the Assassin Sect envoy arrived at the base of a towering mountain and entered a cave, never to reappear. The drone stealthily approached the area and used its quantum radar to scan the terrain, discovering many caves of varying sizes under the mountain, each with traces of human activity.
Since the quantum radar could not penetrate thick rocks, it was unable to see deep into the caves. That meant Yan Fei suddenly lost the trail of the Assassin Sect envoy. However, far from being disappointed, Yan Fei was actually excited.
The drone hovered at a considerable distance from the cave, peering through the gap between two large rocks. Since entering the cave, the envoy had not been seen again. With the quantum radar in full surveillance mode, no personnel movement was detected within a fifty-kilometer radius, suggesting that the headquarters of the Assassin Sect might indeed be located within that cave. Despite various setbacks, Yan Fei had finally found his objective.
The mountain over the cave was majestic, yet, curiously, its summit was not covered in snow. Could this be the Daxue Mountain famed by the Assassin Sect, albeit somewhat different from what was expected?
By now, the sky was fully bright, and under the drone’s diligent watch, the Assassin Sect envoy was no longer seen. Coupled with the previous evening’s long flights and combat use, the drone energy points had dropped below ten thousand.
Despite this consumption of energy points, Yan Fei was virtually certain that this was the headquarters of the Assassin Sect, making the power expenditure worthwhile. Finding the headquarters meant Yan Fei was no longer in a rush. The larger caves in the big mountain appeared to be around four to five meters high and five to six meters wide, large enough for vehicles to pass through. The smaller caves were just tens of centimeters high, where humans could only crawl forward. The cave that the envoy had just entered was about one meter in diameter. Outside these caves, there was a highway leading to the outside world.
The area was littered with yellow sand, devoid of vegetation, making the highway inconspicuous, almost unrecognizable as a highway. What frustrated Yan Fei was that, under the watch of the Auxiliary Brain, there had been no sign of anyone entering or leaving the cave, nor had any animals been detected. If it weren’t for the sighting of the Assassin Sect’s envoy entering the cave the previous night, Yan Fei might even doubt whether anyone was there at all. The truck stopped, and the driver got out to inspect. Upon discovering the flat tire, he slapped the back of the truck and began to replace the wheel. The canvas on the back of the truck was then torn open, and a group of people jumped out of the truck, beginning to stretch and move about on the ground, waiting for the repair to be completed.
Yan Fei’s vision was now extraordinary, and even in the dark, he could see the people from the vehicle below. They were all Arabs with covered faces and carried AK47 automatic rifles, clearly armed militants in disguise. Among these Arabs were two Chinese individuals, but they were being supported down from the truck by the armed militants, and their eyes were blindfolded, obviously to prevent them from seeing their surroundings.
