Chapter 171: Chapter 110: Bizarre World
Yan Fei’s heart skipped a beat as he had never before encountered such a dense fog that even his enhanced vision failed to penetrate. Since he rarely visited the tropical rainforests in the southwest region, he wasn’t sure whether such heavy fog was a common occurrence or a unique phenomenon that arose today. He looked at his wrist to check the time only to find, for some reason, his watch had stopped working. His mobile phone inside his pocket had also mysteriously shut down, refusing to power on no matter what he did; therefore, he had no idea what time it was. However, by the dim light surrounding him, he assumed it was the morning of the following day.
When Yan Fei pushed open the door, he discovered the white mist outside was even thicker, blurring everything into obscurity. He walked to the right of his room and began knocking on the adjacent door of Wen Rou’s room. Strangely enough, Wen Rou didn’t answer, nor was there any sign of movement inside. He paused for a moment, then continued to knock, but still no one came to open the door.
A jolt of alarm shot through Yan Fei as he promptly forced the door open and rushed in, only to find the room completely empty; Wen Rou was nowhere to be seen. Yan Fei was greatly taken aback. He hurried across to the tour guide’s room, but after knocking and receiving no response, he barged in to find the tour guide’s room also barren. A sinking feeling grew within him as he checked the other tourists’ rooms, discovering all of them devoid of any occupants.
As Yan Fei realized everyone was missing, a sense of urgency took hold of him. He went out to the Dai Ethnic Village, where he found it too was entirely deserted. For some reason, only he remained—everyone else had vanished into thin air.
It wasn’t just the people; even the animals and poultry raised in the Dai Ethnic Village had disappeared without a trace. The village, previously lively with animals running around and the constant calls of poultry, was now eerily quiet and lifeless. Not only were the animals in the Dai Ethnic Village gone, but the usual cacophony of insects and birds from the surrounding dense forests had also vanished.
A chill crept over Yan Fei, utterly clueless about how so many people and animals could have suddenly disappeared. For others, he couldn’t say, but Wen Rou would definitely not leave without saying goodbye. If Wen Rou had been taken away, why hadn’t he heard anything? His hearing was exceptional, and even in his sleep, he could pick up on any abnormal sounds, waking up instantly to react. Moreover, he paid special attention to Wen Rou; should she make any unusual noise in the next room, he would awaken immediately and protect her.
But Yan Fei had neither heard Wen Rou disappear nor the sounds of anyone else from the tour group vanishing. He had not heard the people and animals of the Dai Ethnic Village disappear either. Oddly, the entire village was left with only him as soon as he opened his eyes.
Yan Fei was bewildered. Could it be that the people here had managed to evacuate without his notice, silently? Or was there a super expert in the area, someone who could take away all the people and animals without a sound? If so, why leave him behind? What was the person’s purpose? Or was someone playing a joke on him?
Without answers, Yan Fei grew increasingly restless. In this strange, fog-filled world, the silence was profound, devoid of all sound, a stillness that made his skin crawl. Unwilling to give up, he began searching throughout the village but found not a soul. The phones in the village rooms remained, yet they emitted no sound from the receivers. All household appliances appeared to be malfunctioning, completely unable to power up.
Yan Fei began to shout loudly, calling out Wen Rou’s name. His voice echoed through the desolate village, but no response came. The silence was terrifying. A sense of unease washed over Yan Fei, and it seemed that only by shouting could he alleviate the fear building inside him.
After a while, his throat became hoarse, yet still, there was no reply. He forced himself to calm down and think about the situation at hand. Having survived countless life-or-death struggles, he knew the importance of remaining calm; only by staying composed could he find a solution. However, even after careful consideration, he still had no clue; he didn’t know what had happened here nor how everyone had disappeared.
Yet, an idea came to him as he recovered his composure. He attempted to contact his Drone Avatar. Normally a seamless connection, the Drone Avatar now remained unresponsive to his calls, as if it never existed. Even the Universal Space he frequently used was out of reach, impossible to open.
Upon realizing the gravity of the situation, Yan Fei felt as if the sky had come crashing down. Everything for him was built upon his Drone Avatar; now that it had suddenly lost contact with him, it was as if his world had been turned upside down. Nonetheless, the powerful strength he had gained from the Drone Upgrade still remained, giving him a sliver of confidence in facing this perplexing world.
