Summit Farmer Chapter 16

16: Touching 16: Touching Editor: _Lunaelle, The_Dreamweavers The reason why Peter had such great confidence was primarily because he had inherited an ancient technique for cultivating crops with a special formation method. This formation was very powerful. Depending on the strength of the spiritual energy, the denser the energy, the faster the medicinal herbs matured, and the more potent they would be. If he could successfully apply this formation, the growth of the herbs he planted would excel compared to what others could achieve. After everyone had come down from the mountain carrying the harvested medicinal herbs, Peter asked his mother to arrange a meal for everyone, as a way of showing his gratitude. It was quite apparent that his mother and Quinn were becoming quite close! Peter could only shake his head and chuckle. He didn’t feel like dwelling on the matter further. Quinn wasn’t just pretty; she was also very efficient when working. She was an expert at slicing vegetables and cooking. Everyone heartily enjoyed the afternoon meal. After the meal, when Peter saw that several people were approaching his father to talk about work, he knew he didn’t want to get involved in that discussion. After all, his father had lived in this village for many years and knew every villager inside and out. Peter moved to the side, took out his cell phone, and called Daniel Pangbourne. “Peter, how come you decided to call? How’s the wine-making process going?” “Daniel, don’t you worry.” “That’s good to hear. You don’t know—our stock has already been pre-ordered and there’s still not enough to meet the demand. As soon as your product starts to show results, I believe more orders will come in. You really need to expand the scale of your operation.” “Daniel, that’s actually why I called. I’ve decided to develop in the village. I’ve leased a barren hill and some land, and we’ll start planting medicinal herbs there soon.” There’s definitely a lot of potential for growth in rural areas too. Keep up the good work! I believe you can definitely make something out these efforts. Your medicinal wine should keep increasing in production. You should try to expand your herb cultivation base. If you’re short on cash, just let me know.” “Daniel, you’re in real estate. I wanted to ask if you know anyone involved in architecture and construction. I want to transform the areas I’ve leased.” “Haha, my boy, you’ve come to the right person. Let me tell you, I do have some contacts in that field. I will send them to you right away. They’ll help you in designing it all and they’ll develop your village into a tourist attraction. That way, I’ll have a place to visit too.” “Daniel, I appreciate your help. We’ll settle the design fees and other costs later.” “You’re joking, right? There’s no way you’re paying for this. I’ve thought it over. If it’s possible, we can even develop some villa-like structures there. How about we each reserve one for ourselves? Let’s say, one villa costs a million dollars. Let’s make it a discount, and I’ll have them use this money for construction.” ‘He’s really helping me out!’ Peter couldn’t help feeling moved. However, he didn’t show this explicitly. Only he knew that after he’d finished transforming his place, Daniel and the rest of them would definitely profit from it. After the call, Peter wasn’t worried about money anymore. He started to prepare the medicinal ingredients for the wine. Seeing his son start to mix the ingredients, Raven said to Peter, “You do this inside the house; I’ll guard the outside.” Peter simply responded with a smile. His father was worried that someone might steal the secret recipe. In reality, even if someone saw the recipe they wouldn’t be able to learn it. Only an expert in herbal medicine would know which parts of each herb are necessary, and Peter would need to use the slight sense of spiritual energy he had cultivated to sense it. Seeing his mother looking as if she was on guard, Peter reluctantly moved indoors. The villagers knew that Peter was about to make medicinal wine and tactfully departed one after another. “Peter, this is your unique secret recipe, and no one must steal it. It’s to be passed down only within our family!” Raven earnestly advised. Looking at Kate, Raven said, “Didn’t you notice your big brother is preparing the medicinal wine? Stay outside and don’t distract him.” Kate pouted and retorted, “That favoritism! If you don’t want to teach, just say so!” Peter laughed, “Dad, it’s not that important. I have plenty of knowledge that I can’t possibly exhaust.” “Regardless, this is the secret recipe of the Brown family, and we mustn’t easily divulge it!” It took quite a bit of time to prepare batches for one hundred jars of wine. Looking at the jars of wine in the yard, Raven furrowed his brow and said, “Peter, this isn’t ideal, you know? We can’t possibly guard them day and night. This needs supervision. If someone steals it or worse, poisons it, we’d have a big problem on our hands.” “Dad, I was actually about to talk to you about it, too. Take a look around and see if anyone is willing to work at our house. Let’s hire about five people to start with. I’ve already contacted a boss in the city. He will send people to assist in planning and designing the barren hill. Once their work starts, we will definitely need more workers. Until then, they can help guard these jars of wine.” Raven nodded approvingly, “As you wish.” As they finished discussing this, Raven left to find some workers, and Quinn arrived. “Peter, when do I start work?” Peter knew Quinn was in a tight financial situation. He pulled out two thousand dollars and gave it to her, saying, “From now on, you’re officially part of our team. This is your wage for this month in advance. Holding the money in hand, Quinn’s large eyes misted over. Her family was in dire straits, and they were barely making ends meet. She hoped to start working soon in order to earn some money. She had also thought about asking Peter to pay a portion of her wages in advance, but she didn’t expect him to hand over the money right away. She knew that was something he would only do knowing her situation!” Seeing that Quinn was about to burst into tears, Peter quickly reassured her, “Don’t cry, don’t cry. If you cry, I won’t give you any more money!” Upon hearing these words, Quinn promptly pocketed the money and protested, “I’m not crying, I’m not!” Even so, tears ran down her cheeks. “Hey, Peter, what’s going on? Are you bullying Quinn?” Collins mysteriously appeared out of nowhere, eyeing Quinn suspiciously from head to toe. Seeing her look, Peter broke into a sweat. His mind flashed back to the scene where he and Mrs. Collins were huddled together. He scratched his head and said sheepishly when his cheeks turned crimson, “We didn’t do anything.” Collins’ heart fluttered, and she found herself thinking about Peter’s muscular physique and, almost involuntarily, she was gazing at him. Collins’ gaze, Peter quickly said, “You guys can continue chatting.” With that, he quickly exited the house.
