Steampunk Era: Mad Abield Chapter 83

Shela Ibn Mischael was recently feeling quite downhearted—her brother’s wife had died a terrible death, and the incident had eventually been classified as a cult victim case. This caused Shela immense pain—if it weren’t for her desire to buy a handbag that day, she wouldn’t have left home for the market and met her untimely end. The incident had nearly crushed her until recently when the young girl had finally emerged from her sorrow. She wanted to become stronger—then, to seek revenge for that woman who had been like a sister to her. So she chose the most difficult task, refused her brother’s help, and approached an old preschool classmate, Faye of Mowish, to request the assistance of Sir Malin. Shela was short on cash, even though her brother had always been supporting her, but she didn’t want to spend his money any longer. So, without this connection, she simply wouldn’t have had enough salary to hire Sir Malin. Luckily, Faye readily agreed, and Sir Malin didn’t even bring up the matter of payment. This made Shela very happy but also very guilty, so the young girl decided that she would definitely do some work within her capabilities to compensate Faye afterwards. However, the priority now was to complete the task of vanquishing the named beast, so Shela got everything ready early. The carriage was also in place, just waiting for everyone to arrive. The first to come were her own family’s helpers: her cousin and her boyfriend. They had been busy last time and couldn’t make it, but after the failed mission, the cousin had insisted on bringing people over no matter what. Shela knew they were genuinely busy, so she held no grievances, and this time her cousin had brought her boyfriend, clearly showing sincerity. "Selena, bringing your boyfriend over must have been tough," Shela extended and hugged her cousin, who showed a face full of apologies, "I’m sorry, Shela, I just couldn’t make time last time." "It’s alright, I’ve heard you just completed Level Nine advancement, you must be exhausted." Shela finished speaking and turned her head to the tall guy, "Jason." "Miss Shela, good afternoon." The big guy smiled awkwardly, "Selena and I were both prepping for promotion last time and couldn’t make it to help you." "You’re here this time, aren’t you? Thank you both." While Shela spoke, she guided the two to the rest area—since many of the Church’s apprentices were gathered to complete tasks recently, the Church simply set up a small rest area outside the north city gate, and the Church of the Goddess of Harvest even provided food and drinks. "By the way, Sister Shela, do you have any other helpers? I see you haven’t brought any mercenaries this time," Selena was curious. "Yes, I had Faye invite Sir Malin for me." Shela answered earnestly. The answer made her younger cousin’s eyes widen in astonishment, "Malin! His appearance fee is at least a thousand gold as a base now." "Faye did me a big favor, Sir Malin didn’t take any fee from me." "Wow, you and Faye must be very close. I don’t have such a relationship, and wouldn’t dare to invite him," Selena pursed her lips. These words made Shela want to laugh—the silly girl wasn’t short of money; she had previously offended Malin and now feared being mocked if she invited him again. But as a child of nobility, Shela chose not to laugh. Instead, she patted Selena’s hand, "I hear Sir Malin is very easy to talk to. If you run into trouble next time, remember to try inviting him; it’s not like there’s anything to lose." Just as they were speaking, a carriage stopped next to Shela’s, and Faye’s head popped out from the carriage, "Shela, we are here." "Wow, Lady Faye seems to be on very good terms with Malin," Selena followed her cousin to greet them while murmuring in a low voice. "After all, we are all students of the Church of the Goddess of Harvest." Shela had to admit, she even felt a little envious herself when she mentioned this. This world was so dangerous, and the daughters of the nobility were taught a lesson by their mothers early on—appearance and status were far less important than character and strength. Malin was indeed too outstanding, so outstanding that he was heart-stirring, but as long as one considered Faye’s own strength, few would dare to provoke her. At least in Carterburg, no one could outshine Faye, and with Shela’s observations and understanding of Malin’s reputation during this period, she realised a fact—Malin was not good at refusing others, but he was also a person with clear boundaries. He had many friends of the opposite sex, but only Faye was the closest to him, besides that there was only a Panso cat girl. Considering their foster father had gone to other places, and she was Malin’s sister, who had been under his care for the better part of the year, their closeness was understandable. This earned Malin a reputation for being family-oriented, which was very good—having strength and being family-oriented was what all women dream of, yet often find elusive in a man. Over there, Faye jumped down from the carriage, followed by the little cat called Maya. Since Faye appeared in Malin’s life, this little cat girl had become Faye’s little shadow. Although many girls wanted to follow Maya’s lead, perhaps due to a racial talent, there were very few who could actually converse with this little cat girl. That made Shela suspect whether the little cat girl had some super ability that could ascertain what kind of person was approaching her. However, all this had nothing to do with Shela, as the girl was allergic to cat people—more specifically, she was allergic to the fur of cat people. She was fine with brief contact, but prolonged exposure would cause her to break out in red spots all over her body. The reason she knew this was because when she was young, her brother had a cat girl senior who had given him and her bracelets woven from her own hair. To become Malin’s lover, one had to tolerate this little cat girl, and if it were someone else it might be okay, but if it was Shela... living a lifetime with allergies was a pain she dared not even think about. "Shela, I brought a team of friends to help you today," Faye said, then turned her head to pat the carriage, and Shela and Selena saw four heads poking out from inside the carriage. "Yo, isn’t this Shela from the Michelle household, are you surprised to see me?" The top one was a wolf girl’s head. "Jessica! How did you get here! I’m so surprised!" This was Jessica, like Faye, a good friend of Shela’s from their childhood. "Hello, I’m Lillim from the Sheringham family, here to have fun with everyone today." Below the wolf girl’s head was a little sheep’s head. Shela recognized her—Lillim, a renowned genius in both auxiliary and protection spell formations. "I’m Clovis." Below the sheep’s head was a rabbit’s head... well, she looked like a Toby person showing ancestral traits, but considering she could be with them, it was obvious her senses were not a problem. The one at the bottom was a handsome and cute young man squatting by the carriage door: "I’m Malin, when do we leave?" "Hello," Shela smiled: "We’ll set off when everyone’s here." Then she glanced at Faye—what’s the situation with this silly girl? Faye smiled back at Shela, and everything seemed to be communicated without words.
