Steampunk Era: Mad Abield Chapter 72

Clovis had been aiming her revolver at a flying head barbarian when she heard Malin’s command and immediately turned to begin spellcasting. The flying head barbarian seemed to think this was an opportunity and pounced toward the bunny girl. Maya, who had already loaded her crossbow, struck it with the weapon in her hand, turning the pounce into a disaster. The flying head barbarian, with an arrow in its skull, crashed to the ground, then Malin smashed it with one foot. A second wraith spiritual body leaped out from the void behind Clovis, but what awaited it was a sacred healing from Malin’s hand—a four-ring blessing spell that was contact-triggered, providing the first target with a highly effective healing (which for Malin could essentially cause a fatal wound to close instantly), and then sharing half the effects of this heal with all targets within a radius of 20 yards. Therefore, Leon, who had been bitten by the flying head barbarian, found the wound on his arm had vanished. Carmen noticed the swelling on her arm returning to normal. Hiddell’s face, burnt by the ejected casings from the lever-action firearm in his hand, was no longer in pain. The flying head barbarians outside tumbled to the ground, the ghouls rolling on the roof of the ruins began to self-ignite and the two wraith spiritual bodies were directly ’squeezed’ out of the void by the sacred spiritual energy, turning into ash without even managing a shriek. Faye glanced around, "Is it over?" "It’s over," Malin nodded, "Speaking of which, do you guys have any clue why these creatures charged out?" "Who knows what these dead ghosts are thinking," Hiddell complained while looking around, "Speaking of which, can we fire the mission completion flare now?" "Go ahead, I think this is considerably more than what was on the mission intelligence," Carmen, although a bit slow, had not yet become so slow as to not be able to count properly. Clovis raised her finger toward the direction of the abandoned factory, "Wait a moment, there’s still a moving source over there." Following her warning, everyone saw that tall spirit—a humanoid spirit like a flesh mountain, nearly three meters tall, with nothing on its body, yet no unnecessary organs, several ugly flesh tubes under its purposeless head. "It’s a Chaos fleshman, lethal level, looks like we need to retreat," Hiddell said as he backed away, "Although it walks slowly, it’s very strong." Then he saw that no one was following him, and Malin was walking toward the creature. The warhammer that had been placed on the ground was now gripped in his hand. Faye threw a spell formation, "Only two seconds of control! Malin!" "Enough! Second shot!" Malin squeezed the end of the hammer, extending the handle. Faye used a second spell formation, and the large spirit that was originally about to pounce on Malin slowed down tremendously. Malin sidestepped the spirit’s pouncing trajectory, holding the warhammer high with both hands. As the spirit broke free from the control and found itself confused when its target disappeared from in front, Malin’s warhammer heavily crashed down on the spirit’s left leg. This time, leaving no strength behind, Malin smashed the leg of the spirit to pieces. The spirit crashed down howling, and Faye’s third binding spell landed on it. Thus, its falling motion turned into a comically fixed state. Malin’s warhammer lifted and then descended, hammering the spirit’s head into the earth. Leon, who had already pulled the trigger of his alarm signal gun, finally saw it work. The red signal shot into the sky and then exploded> "What a crappy signal gun," Leon said, discarding the signal gun in his hand, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Did we just win?" Hiddell looked at the huge corpse and, after confirming it wouldn’t move again, the young man raised his hands excitedly, "My god! This is a Chaos fleshman! I’ve found the main ingredient for my stage six!" "Right, according to the employment contract, all the loot is yours," Malin said as he pulled the warhammer out of the ground, preparing to stow it away for Carmen. "No, Malin, this hammer’s yours now," Hiddell generously offered the weapon to Malin. "Eh, really?" To be honest, it was only Malin’s second time participating in such an operation. "Of course, I can decide on my own whether to give the weapon that’s mine to anyone," Hiddell said, giving Malin an eyebrow raise, "You helped me take down that Chaos fleshman, and to be honest, aside from the hiring fee I paid, I still made almost 1,000 gold." "Lucky you, but honestly, how did this thing appear?" Leon walked over and kicked the huge corpse, "I remember these things mostly appear in the wild; how did it show up in the city?" "Who knows," Clovis said, while taking a flying head barbarian and examining it, "It’s somewhat old, not like it’s fresh." "I think there’s something fishy with the original owner of this factory," said Carmen with a frown, "Who’s the owner?" "It’s that guy who scammed a large sum of money from the Lucky Daughter Church’s lottery event using special items," Hiddell apparently knew. As he said that, Malin also remembered—he had indeed heard about this person before. "Is this what they call making a fortune but not living to spend it?" Malin turned to ask Faye, who was approaching. "In a sense, yes," Faye nodded with a smile, agreeing with Malin’s view. Malin shook his head, thinking it was all too tragic.
