Steampunk Era: Mad Abield Chapter 118

After bandaging the wound, he applied a light healing potion. Malin gestured to the Apprentices without emergency aid or Spell Talent to drag the wounded away. As soon as one person was taken away, the instructor brought in another, covered in blood, "Who knows surgery?" "Over here," Malin called, and the instructor carefully laid the casualty before him. The left arm was severed at the elbow, the right forearm twisted, one left eye gone, the nose split open to reveal the cartilage, at least three arrow wounds piercing through the leather armor, and the left leg appeared to be broken in three places: "How did he get these injuries?" "He took on a Bear Goblin by himself and killed it, but he was surrounded and beaten by Goblins. If it hadn’t been for the cavalry, he would certainly be dead," the instructor reported quickly and then ran off without looking back. "The broken arm is frostbitten. The other hand and leg fractures look severe, but they’re not life-threatening. Prioritize the eye injury and chest wounds," Malin said as he used a dagger to pry open the shoulder straps of the leather armor, carefully removing the chest piece, and then cutting open the man’s shirt. Three arrows, one piercing through his left flank: "This one might have hit the kidney." Malin circled the wound, then looked at the arrow in the middle of his abdomen: "Lucky. Any higher and it would have reached the liver." The last arrow entered near his collarbone: "Third priority, first is the wound on the side." After speaking, Malin first scorched the dagger with a Flame Spell, then poured a potion on it before starting to cut open the wound. As he located the arrowhead, Malin raised his eyebrows, plucking out the arrow: "Didn’t hit the kidney, this kid is lucky." While speaking, Faye poured a potion into the wound, cleaning it, and Jessica, already threading a needle, watched as Malin quickly stitched the wound: "Don’t use Healing Spells unless necessary. The kid’s fractures and Eye Regeneration will need plenty of Restorative and Purification Spells. Unless it’s life-threatening, don’t use Healing Spells." Next was the arrow in the belly. Malin carefully cut the wound open and glanced inside; the arrow had passed through a section of the intestines. "At least it didn’t go through the liver area." He cut open the wound, pulled out the arrow, and Faye applied a Purification Spell, then poured in a potion. Malin took the needle, first suturing the intestines, then the external wound. Next came the collarbone wound. Malin cut open the wound. This arrow had nicely slipped between the bone shards, so after extracting it, Malin handed over the suturing to Jessica and began to work with Faye on the poor fellow’s leg. "At least five Restorative Spells." Faye frowned at the injury after Malin cut open the wound: "He took down a Bear Goblin on his own, was truly fighting for his life." "If he couldn’t handle it, the Bear Goblin could’ve killed many. Come, Faye, I’ll set the bone, you cast the Spells." Saying this, Malin punched the lad, who had just awakened from pain, knocking him to the ground: "Okay, let’s continue." "Couldn’t you be gentler?" Faye asked Malin, "His face seemed to deform when you hit him just now." "If I was gentler, I might have had to hit him again." Malin wouldn’t admit that just then he almost lost control of his strength, seeing the kid lose several teeth. The two spoke nonchalantly while quickly attending to the leg injuries. Of course, it wasn’t perfect treatment, but in the current circumstances, the goal was to save the leg first. Whether it was too short or too long afterward, it could still be fixed. Next came the arms, the right hand was handed over to Faye, and Malin checked the stub of the left: "It was torn off, where’s his arm?" "Eaten by the Bear Goblin!" a wounded soldier struggled to answer. "We need to perform Limb Regeneration. I can’t deal with it now; we can only apply cold treatment to slow down the bleeding." Limb Regeneration was a seventh-ring spell, and none of the Apprentices knew it. Malin turned to Margaret, who was taking records: "Miss Margaret, this casualty needs Limb and Eye Regeneration, please hurry with the procedures." "No problem." After Margaret spoke, she rang a bell, and a guard came over to carry the casualty to the back hall. The third patient Malin recognized—"Logan, what are you doing here?" he said, looking at the young man’s bloodied face, missing an eye on the left, and with seven or eight arrows embedded in his left leg. "I was just following my cousin," Logan replied weakly, "those world-sheltered Goblins, all shooting arrows at this one leg of mine." "Okay, not just the front, the back is full of arrows too." Malin lifted his foot and glanced at it, a dozen arrows front and back, the entire pant leg soaked in blood. "I, along with a few brothers, rushed to rescue the guy who was grappling with the Bear Goblin; a goblin hit me in the face. I didn’t dodge... By the way, how is he doing?" Logan said, looking around as he turned his head. Malin slapped him, and like nothing had happened, he looked at Malin: "What’s wrong?" "Why did you hit him!" Logan’s girlfriend Miriam screamed. "Your boyfriend lost too much blood, he’s not even reacting! Call for help!" Malin said as he snatched the scarf from around her neck, used a dagger to cut open Logan’s left pant leg, and tightly tied off the top of the leg with the scarf. "Why are you tightening my leg?" Logan still asked in bewilderment. Malin pursed his lips, at a loss for words, while Faye couldn’t stand it anymore: "Logan! Don’t pass out!" Logan grunted and then his head lolled uncontrollably; Malin grabbed his chin, and the tip of the dagger poked his buttocks. The jab woke Logan up a bit: "What’s happening! Bloody hell! Why are there arrows in my butt too!" Malin turned to look at the girl bringing over the potion: "Not good, he needs a spell." "But his record card says he has already taken two critical injury treatments; another one, and it will be spell overdose." "Spell overdose; although he won’t be able to use spells for three months, it’s certainly better than losing his life. I’ll do it!" Malin said, and slapped the boy with a Healing Spell for fatal injuries—better to overdo it when life was hanging by a thread! The sacred Healing Spell Formation brought Logan back from the brink in an instant. He was dazed at first, then rolled his eyes back: "Why does my leg hurt so much!" "You hardly felt any pain before," Malin said, while having Faye mark that he had just received a spell for fatal injuries on his card: "Anyway, your life is saved." Logan finally came to, lying on the ground as Malin laid him down: "Thanks, Malin." "You don’t have to thank me for going in with the others to pull out our man," Malin slapped his hand, "Come on, bear with it a little, I’ll pull the arrows out of your leg. You’ve exceeded your Spell Talent, we can only treat you. Forget about painlessness, do you want me to give you some physical anesthesia?" Malin said, taking a leather-wrapped club handed to him by Jessica: "Don’t worry, I’ll set it up with a bruising formation, there won’t be any fatal risks." "No need! I’m a Carterburg man! Pulling out an arrow is nothing!" Logan said, his face a picture of resignation. Malin nodded, cut away the shredded part of his pant leg, took out a dagger that had been heated in fire and then doused in potion, made the first incision, and even before pulling the arrow out, heard Logan cry like a hundred-pound weakling: "Help, help me! Malin! I want physical anesthesia! Ah! My leg!" This was Logan’s piercing scream as Faye pulled out the arrow. Jessica, who was threading a needle, cracked a silent, yet eloquent smile. His little girlfriend Miriam covered her face with her hand, seemingly questioning her boyfriend’s present conduct. While Malin, expressionless, lifted the short club high and brought it down hard.
