Jace stepped onto the Vulture after equipping himself. He had grabbed the Pyre with several magazines which were secured in pouches on his leg. Then he had taken the Railgun and a dozen bolt bullets which were magnetically secured on the gun. While the gun itself was magnetically secured against his back. The only other weapon he had on him was the Spectre combat knife.
He stepped on the Vulture and had to stop himself from laughing as he watched a few ship security officers and the Accer drag the Chief Engineer away, so she would not follow him down to the planet.
As the side door closed he turned his attention to the others. Vana, Ulin, and Charlie were all equipped and ready in their gear. "Are you sure you are not going to regret bringing a primary weapon?" Charlie asked as she shook her head.
Ulin and Charlie were both equipped with the Shock Trooper armor. While Vana was wearing the Woltar Royal Armor. Ulin and Charlie were equipped with Pyres and the new Wildfire rifles. But Vana's gear and weapons were all Woltar in design. Her armor had barely been fixed in time. In fact the arm guns were still disabled because the repairs were not complete.
"If I need a weapon I will just take one." Jace answered.
"What a badass answer." Ulin mused herself as she pulled on her helmet.
Jace tossed a holo puck in the middle of the ship and it lit up. Solisa appeared. "Time for the briefing." She then disappeared and was replaced by the building. "This is the building in the Victorium Capital where high ranking members are staying. In addition it is where the remainder of your squad is located. I will provide a more detailed report when we come out of warp space. I will also connect you with the rest of your squad when you get close to them." She then disappeared.
"So we are going in hot and blind." Charlie grunted as she looked up at the pilots. One was a human, the other was an Accer that was familiarizing themselves with the transport's controls.
"It is not that different from our usual stuff." Jace told them as he picked up the puck and put it back on the wall. "Only difference is that we will probably be jumping from the side door and into a building. Did you two put on the extra shield generators like I told you to?"
"Affirmative." Charlie nodded. "What extra stuff do you have?"
"I have three slots instead of two. So I have an upgraded version that requires more power. Then I have two more attachments that I will keep secret for the moment." Jace answered.
"So Spectre Armors have three slots? Lucky…" Ulin mumbled.
"Actually the upgraded shields usually take up two but I generate enough power that I only need one slot for the upgraded shield." Jace informed her as he felt a very slight and subtle jostling. "We are out of warp." He told them as the Vulture took off the ground.
Then a moment later they were flying out of the hangar and into space. Then he could hear Solisa through their Squad communications. "There is a jamming field we are still trying to get through around the entire planet. But I have confirmed the High Priestess' private emergency transponder is originating from the tenth floor of the same building. But we can also see destruction and firefights around the building, there is a good chance you are going straight into a fight. Extract the VIPs then Jace once they are away, find the jamming device. I have sent you the approximate location."
Objectives appeared on their visors. Jace nodded his head. Then he turned to the others. He did not even ask them for their state of readiness. The pilot up front was the first to talk after Solisa, "we are entering the atmosphere, I will open the side doors so grab hold of something."
Jace grabbed a handle that was hanging from the roof. Ulin stood next to him. While Charlie and Vana stood on the other side. The doors slid open and the air rushed through the transport. They also got their first look at the Victorium Capital Planet.
"Welcome to Yati! Our Capital Planet!" The Accer copilot announced over the communication channel. "We just lost contact with the Venture."
The world was a giant city as far as he could see. There were some areas that were clearly more important because it was raised off the ground. Like the one they were heading to. But there was so much destruction and chaos that it was more disconcerting than aweing.
"I can see people fighting in the streets." Vana pointed out as the transport swayed.
"I am more concerned with the other ships shooting at us." Jace pointed out as the transport made a hard turn, dodging another attack. "We won't be able to stop with them following us."
"Spectre Jace is right, we are not going to have time to stop. Unless you have a plan I am going to have a quick drop." The main pilot told them, causing both Ulin and Charlie to groan.
Jace stepped back, "how many are on our tail?" He asked.
"Only one." The pilot answered.
Jace nodded, "Ulin and Charlie get ready on one side with the Wildfires." They moved and he took up position behind them so he could hold them in place. "Bank so the left door has a visual on the attacking craft."
The pilot grunted in answer. Then a moment later the transport creaked as it turned on a dime. Jace could hear the Accer pilot groan as he did not expect such a brutal change in forces. But it worked and Ulin and Charlie were both facing the approaching attack craft.
They let loose their bullets and it tore through the craft but not before a slow moving bolt of plasma was unleashed. The boosters fired and the transport moved into the air. The plasma bolt flew right under them while the attacking craft burst into fire and crashed into the ground.
"Keep us just above the buildings, we want to avoid catching the attention of additional attack crafts. I am sure there are also other methods of attack they have that can shoot us down." Jace told the pilots.
"You are right, there is no telling if the local ground to air and space weapons have been taken over." The Accer copilot confirmed.
They flew toward the raised area where the building with the VIPs were located. As they got closer they went vertical as they flew straight up the natural rock formation that the raised area was located.
As they flew over the edge Jace's shields triggered as a bolt of energy slammed into him. The yellow hexagonal pattern appeared over the spot it was about to hit his armor. The other's armors triggered as well as several bolts hit the side and underside of transport.
He looked down to see that the weapon stations that the copilot was talking about were destroyed. But he could see several people who were restrained while the others fired on him.
"Should we shoot back?" Vana asked as she leaned back so she would stop being hit. "Because I really want to shoot back."
"Negative." Jace answered. "It looks like someone was able to destroy the cannons before the other side could get control." Jace informed them and then looked toward the building they were approaching. There were plenty of destroyed vehicles and heavy artillery. There were also an array of bodies and fights still occurring throughout the battlefield.
Jace then looked up the side of the building. They were clearly developed with each floor to be twice the height of a Tacole. There were only fifteen floors in this building overall. But it was still as tall as some of the massive towers that are on the Human worlds.
The first five floors were part of a bulker section that made it look more like a fortress with an outside roof section on the roof of the fifth floor. Then further up on the seventh floor the tower thinned again. This time the roof was slanted downward. But part of the tower had an exposed section where something had exploded and destroyed it.
Then further up was another massive thinning of the tower on the ninth floor with another slanted roof. Then going up the rest of the tower to the roof the width of the building stayed the same. With the roof having a landing pad.
"Go up the side of the building. Do not stay on one side. Fly around it like a corkscrew." Jace told them as they flew above the fifth floor and then started going around the tower. Below them on the fifth floor roof he could see more groups fighting except one of them had heavy artillery in the form of a tank. Or at least it looked like a tank. "We need to know how they are differentiating themselves before we get into a fight."
