Sold as Slave Chapter 114

Third Person’s POV Brett had spent the entire day cleaning his younger sister's room. Now that the whole Olive mystery was finally solved and he was free from its clutches, he felt a sense of relief. He neatly packed all of his sister's belongings into boxes and stored them in the cabinet. The only thing he left out was the picture frame of him and Olive. Exhausted from the day's cleaning, Brett lay down on the bed and stared up at the ceiling. "Man, that was exhausting," he grumbled, pretending to wipe sweat off his forehead. As he turned his head, his gaze fell upon the picture frame on the table. Sitting up, he leaned against the headboard. "So, is this really the end?" he pondered. He had brought justice to his family's tragedy and Ian Grim had been punished. He no longer needed to keep Agatha by his side since their slave contract had ended. Soon, Agatha would be going to Argentina. It felt like the climax had passed and a happy ending was on its way. "A happy ending," Brett thought to himself. But he couldn't quite agree with that notion. If there was truly a happy ending, then why did his heart feel so devoid of happiness? There's a sense of calm, yet something feels off. Is it because he can't bring his family back? Or is it because he's releasing someone from his life? Suddenly, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He quickly fished it out and glanced at the screen, seeing the name of the person he had let go. ["Uncle. I said I wouldn't contact you again, remember?"] A small grin tugged at his lips. Brett didn't respond to her message, instead moving on to the next one that followed. ["But I feel like I should at least inform you when I'll be leaving. For old times' sake... as your servant."] "..." [“It’ll be hard to think of you as a friend. But you know, when you asked me to stay by your side that day, I know there will be chance someday.”] Brett furrowed his brow. When did he ever ask her to stay by his side? The only recollection he had was when he was ill. He remembered Agatha entering his room and him pleading for her to never leave. But... 'Wasn't that just a dream?' He couldn't believe it. It felt like a painful nightmare when he was trapped in the depths of despair. All he wanted was to forget about it, to erase it from his memory. In his dream, Agatha didn't hold his hand, and that hurt him deeply. But now, as he pondered over the situation, he wondered if it was too late to regret letting her go. Maybe it wasn't just a dream after all. Brett got up, his breath heavy, as he read the messages from her. They kept coming, one after another. ["I held your hand that day, you know. But I guess you don't remember that, do you?”] He was taken aback by her words. It was true, he couldn't remember. How could he have forgotten such a significant moment? ["I despised being your slave. I hated how you used me. But... I don't regret meeting you. Thank you for all the help and for considering me as someone you wanted to be with. Take care, uncle. By the way, Mister Dillon mentioned that you used to be a good person. Why don't you try being that good person again? I think it would suit you."] Brett was left speechless. Her words struck a chord within him, making him question his actions and choices. Maybe it wasn't too late to change, to become the person he once was. Brett sat down on the bed with loud beating of his hearts. He placed his hand on his chest, clenching it. He chuckled sadly as he read her final message, "Now I understand why I'm not happy." Meanwhile, Agatha gazed at the message she had sent to her ex-boss. "This is the end of it all, isn't it?" She lifted her eyes to the sky, observing the sun, a radiant copper orb, sinking behind a wall of purple clouds tinged with red. As the saying goes, a new day always follows the dawn. "I'll begin anew," she declared, tucking her phone into her pocket. ** ** Agatha hopped onto the plane, settling comfortably in the VIP section. As she relished the luxurious seat, she glanced out the window, observing the clouds drifting alongside the aircraft. "Did I forget anything?" she pondered aloud. Confidently, she assured herself that she hadn't forgotten a single thing, except for one particular emotion she intentionally left behind. LOVE. She was embarking on a new chapter of her life without it, and when the time was right, she would retrieve it once again. Little did Agatha know, she had actually left something incredibly important behind. "Sir, are you really not going to follow Agatha to Argentina?" Lawrence's secretary inquired. Standing by the window, coffee in hand, Lawrence took a sip before responding to his secretary. "That's quite the opposite question from before. You asked if I was serious about making her my fiancée. But now that she's leaving, you're asking if I should follow her or not. You're quite peculiar." His secretary gazed at his boss, silently observing. If given the chance to speak honestly, he would confront Lawrence with the truth: "It's pretty obvious that you've fallen for her, sir." Despite his pride, Lawrence refused to acknowledge his feelings for Agatha. Initially, he felt sorry for her, but now he felt a sense of emptiness as he stared at the sky, especially when a plane flew by. "Ugh, that annoys me," Lawrence chuckled to himself. Unaware of his own emotions, Lawrence was certain of one thing - he was willing to wait for her, not matter how long it took. "Don't worry," Lawrence whispered, turning to his secretary. "This isn't the end of our story. Agatha will return, I'm sure of it." Many men are eagerly anticipating her return to reclaim the feelings she left behind. Despite the promises made by some to wait for her, one individual simply couldn't bear to be apart from her for even a single day. As a result, that person decided to travel to Argentina. ** ** Five months after… “Me estas diciendo que aprendise espanol en cinco meses?” (So, you are telling me that you learned spanish within five months?) asked Agatha’s new classmate in college. “Si, (yes),” answered Agatha, laughing. In her new university, she’s walking in the school hallway with her new friends. “Es increible! (That’s amazing!)” one complimented. “No solo tiene talento, tambien es inteligente (She isn’t just talented, she’s also smart)” another added. “Oh no,” Agatha disagreed, shaking her head. “Solo trabaje duro. No puedo sobrevivir aqui si no puedo hablar espanol. ( I have no choice but to study the language or else, I won’t survive here.)” “Me pregunto por que decides estudiar aqui (Now I wonder why you decided to study here.).” Agatha suddenly halted her steps, causing her friends to do the same. The sorrow in her eyes was unmistakable, like a window to the past. Without a word, they all understood not to pry any further. Quickly, someone attempted to steer the conversation in a different direction. “Ahh! Tengi hambre. Vamos acomer ahora? (Ahh! I’m hungry. Should we go eat our lunch now?)” “Es una buena idea, (That’s a good idea)” Agatha agreed. As they were heading to the canteen, a student from a different department suddenly ran up to them. He was out of breath, taking a moment to compose himself before speaking. "Hey," he greeted Agatha. "What's up?" Agatha replied, slightly confused but willing to listen. “Si, tu (Yes, you),” he replied, then stood straight. “Alguien esta buscando (Someone is looking for you).” Agatha’s eyes widened. In a place where she’s living alone, someone is looking for her. ‘Who will it be?’ She wondered, tilting her head. “Creo que es un amigo de tu pais, ( I think it’s a friend from your country).” “My friend from where?” Agatha gasped. “S-Si. (Yes).” Agatha's heart sank as she listened to the news, a sense of dread creeping over her. Clutching her books tightly, she felt the urge to chase after the person who delivered the message, but a figure obstructed her path. "Ah, there you are." Agatha's eyes widened in shock as she gazed at the man in front of her. "W-Why are you here?" "Surprised to see me?" The flood of emotions that engulfed her went far beyond just a simple 'surprise', memories and feelings she believed were long buried suddenly rushing back all at once. “If you truly understand who I am, you wouldn't be surprised that I ended up here to find you, Agatha,” Brett confessed, someone she never wanted to encounter again. Yet destiny had other plans, intertwining their lives even on opposite sides of the globe. Brett leaned in closer and said, "I came here to make sure you keep your promise." Agatha chuckled and replied, "Are you suggesting that I become your servant once more?" “No. We knew better than anyone why we should be together,” Brett added. They love each other. They fell for each other. They knew it without saying it out loud. ** ** Fin. A/N: Thank you so much for supporting this book! I wanted to end it with an open ending. I hope you enjoyed it!
