"He’s calling you because he definitely wants to ask about the marriage certificate," Lu Yi glanced at the incoming call on the screen.
Shen Heyu stared at the familiar number on the screen, but she did not answer the call.
For a moment, her heart felt empty, and she didn’t even know how to face Pei Yansi, what to say to him, or how to confront his questioning.
"If you don’t want to face him, let me answer the call, I’ll talk to him for you," Lu Yi said as he noticed Shen Heyu hadn’t moved for a while. He reached out to take her phone, but Shen Heyu dodged him.
"No need." Shen Heyu had waited too long, and the call had already disconnected.
Lu Yi was initially delighted, although he knew it was all fake, he couldn’t help feeling pleased, his mood bright.
But now, as he calmed down and looked seriously at Shen Heyu’s expression, his heart suddenly filled with a heavy discomfort, because he couldn’t see any joy on Shen Heyu’s face.
Lu Yi couldn’t help but feel a bit downhearted, "He knew this would happen sooner or later and would come looking for you. You know you can’t avoid him forever."
"Let him come to the door then. It’s better to discuss such an important matter face-to-face," Shen Heyu offered Lu Yi a forced smile, not reaching her eyes, and gathered her notes.
"It’s getting late, let’s go back."
A few days earlier, Lu Yi had been staying in a hotel, but ever since Shen Heyu saw him drinking so much there, he had checked out of the hotel suite and returned to his local villa.
Shen Heyu and Lu Yi then returned to the villa together.
"What would you like for dinner? I’ll cook it myself."
The first thing Lu Yi did when he got back was to carefully store their two red books in a safe, and then he turned his attention to dinner.
Actually, Shen Heyu wasn’t hungry, but she didn’t want to spoil the mood, so she lazily lifted the corners of her mouth.
"You wait in the living room then. I’ll call you when dinner’s ready."
Shen Heyu nodded at him; shortly after Lu Yi entered the kitchen, she heard the sound of water running from the faucet.
Then her phone started vibrating again, it was another call from Pei Yansi.
She knew Pei Yansi wouldn’t let her off so easily, even though she and Lu Yi had already put on a spectacular show of a fake marriage.
Staring at the jumping number on the screen, Shen Heyu knew she could evade temporarily but not forever. Even if she didn’t answer Pei Yansi’s call now, another call would come.
No other choice, Shen Heyu reluctantly answered the call.
"I’m at your door right now, come out and see me."
Shen Heyu had initially wanted to clear things up with Pei Yansi over the phone, but she didn’t expect that Pei Yansi would come directly to her.
How did he know she was here?
Shen Heyu turned her head towards the window in panic, and indeed, she saw the familiar figure of the man.
Pei Yansi was simply insane to come here .
"If you don’t come out now, I’ll come in to find you. Surely there’s someone here who wouldn’t welcome me," he threatened.
Pei Yansi seemed to know that the villa belonged to Lu Yi, and Shen Heyu just gave a soft hum, hung up the phone, and then stood up to walk toward the door.
As she reached the door, she paused and glanced at the figure busily cooking in the kitchen. Thankfully, Lu Yi was concentrating on cooking and did not pay much attention to anything else.
Shen Heyu stepped out of the villa and walked up to Pei Yansi.
Pei Yansi was wearing a suit, and unexpectedly, he was still in his hospital attire underneath, indicating that he had left in a hurry.
"What exactly is going on? You must explain it to me today!" Pei Yansi demanded, holding up his phone, which displayed Lu Yi’s social media post.
On her way back, Shen Heyu had already seen Lu Yi’s post. The first photo was of two marriage certificates, and the second was a selfie with her and Lu Yi.
The meaning could not have been clearer, and the comments section was filled with congratulations.
Shen Heyu looked at Pei Yansi’s anxious and angry face and retorted faintly, "Mr. Pei, when did your comprehension become so poor that you couldn’t understand the meaning of this post?"
"I want you to tell me personally!" Pei Yansi roared in anger.
"What does this have to do with you? You’re engaged to someone else, yet you come here to question me and my husband’s affairs. Don’t you think that’s overstepping?"
Pei Yansi, as if hearing a ridiculous joke, incredulously repeated the word, tugging at the corners of his mouth.
He had never imagined that one day he would hear Shen Heyu call another man "husband."
The word completely drove Pei Yansi beyond rational thought.
"Does Mr. Pei have a problem?"
Knowing that Pei Yansi was fuming, unable to accept the reality, Shen Heyu hadn’t expected that just as her words fell, Pei Yansi would grab her face and forcefully kiss her.
She could feel the fury in Pei Yansi’s kiss, as if he wanted to press her into his body.
It took Shen Heyu two seconds to recover from the shock that Pei Yansi had actually kissed her, and she tried to push him away by pressing her hands against his chest.
But Pei Yansi held her tightly, not letting her break free from his embrace. Having no choice, Shen Heyu bit his lip hard.
The moment the taste of blood spread between their mouths, Pei Yansi suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze threatening as he locked eyes with Shen Heyu, yet he did not comply with Shen Heyu’s wishes to let her go.
Instead, he kissed her even harder, and Shen Heyu almost suffocated in the deep kiss.
Just when Shen Heyu was gasping for breath, a voice came from behind that startled her awake.
"Heyu, where are you? I just finished a dish and wanted you to taste it to check the seasoning."
Lu Yi had walked out of the kitchen, but he hadn’t left the villa. As he looked for Heyu in other rooms, he hadn’t yet seen the scene of her kissing Pei Yansi.
However, with floor-to-ceiling windows everywhere in the villa, it would be very easy for Lu Yi to see what was happening outside.
Shen Heyu couldn’t let Lu Yi see them ; otherwise, he would be deeply hurt. She used all her strength to furiously punch Pei Yansi’s chest.
Her efforts were futile against Pei Yansi, who held her tightly around the waist without a flinch, preventing her from breaking free.
But hearing Lu Yi’s voice, Shen Heyu became even more desperate to escape. Seeing her urgency, Pei Yansi finally let go.
