"My thoughts are not important, what matters is that I am speaking the truth," Shen Heyu said calmly, gazing into those deep, dark eyes.
Pei Yansi suddenly gripped her wrist tightly, almost crushing Shen Heyu’s bones, causing her to wince from the pain.
This was the first time Lu Yi, a gentleman by nature, uttered such chilling words, standing protectively by Shen Heyu.
"You dare speak to me like that?" Pei Yansi glared fiercely at Lu Yi, his eyes as sharp as a bladed knife.
"Mr. Pei, your fiancée is still here. I hope you will release my hand; it does not look good to make a scene in front of her." Shen Heyu didn’t try to escape his grasp with brute force but instead calmly reminded him with her words.
Chen Lingmeng, standing behind Pei Yansi, pressed her lips tightly together, a different emotion surfacing in her clear, bright eyes.
Pei Yansi let out a cold laugh, "Are you that eager to disassociate yourself from me in front of him?"
His chest felt as if it were being crushed by a massive stone, making it difficult for Pei Yansi to breathe.
When Shen Heyu left him, he had considered that she might be with another man, but actually seeing it unfold was intolerable.
"We have already settled our score, drawn a clear line; have you forgotten?" Shen Heyu took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Mr. Pei, if you dislike seeing me with Lu Yi, I will avoid you in the future, but today we did not provoke you. I hope you will let go."
Each word Shen Heyu spoke felt like stones crashing into Pei Yansi’s heart, causing intense pain.
"Brother Yan Si, didn’t you promise to go shopping with me today? Let’s not waste time on irrelevant people."
Chen Lingmeng stared at Pei Yansi holding Shen Heyu’s hand, feeling as sour as if a vinegar jar had been knocked over.
Finally unable to restrain herself, she reached out to pull Pei Yansi’s hand away.
Just as her hand was about to touch Pei Yansi’s, he pulled away first.
He disliked other women’s touches, except for Shen Heyu’s.
After he let go, a red mark was clearly visible on Shen Heyu’s wrist.
"Does it hurt?" Lu Yi asked with concern, looking at the reddened hand.
Shen Heyu shook her head, "I’m fine."
"Sir, here are your suit and tie, and our shop has other accessories; would you like to take a look?" The saleswoman, holding a package, returned just in time to witness the intense scene.
She had not yet recovered from her shock, mulling over the complex relationships between these four people.
She thought Shen Heyu and Lu Yi made a handsome couple, but couldn’t help flip-flopping, feeling that due to their good looks, Pei Yansi and Shen Heyu actually looked better together.
"No, thank you," Lu Yi graciously took the bag, casting a gentle look at Shen Heyu, "Yuexue mentioned she wanted some princess dresses, didn’t she? Let’s go buy some clothes for her."
Shen Heyu hummed in agreement, "Let’s go."
Her gaze never fell on Pei Yansi as she brushed past him.
In that moment she passed by, Pei Yansi felt as if the entire world had gone silent, his mind completely blank.
Chen Lingmeng called out to Pei Yansi several times, but he did not respond. Finally, she couldn’t help but raise her hand tentatively to pull on his sleeve.
She had just touched Pei Yansi’s sleeve when Pei Yansi violently shook off her hand, raising his own to adjust his tie.
Shen Heyu had already walked out of his line of sight.
"Just swipe your card if you see something you like," Pei Yansi said indifferently to Chen Lingmeng before striding away.
Chen Ling was worried that Pei Yansi was going to look for Shen Heyu, so she quickly grabbed Pei Yansi, "Brother Yan Si, where are you going?"
A flash of rejection swept across Pei Yansi’s eyes as he shrugged off Chen Lingmeng’s hand, "I’m going to the restroom."
Chen Lingmeng nodded nervously, "Then hurry back, I’ll wait for you here."
Pei Yansi had intended to splash some cold water on his face to calm himself down, but when he walked out of the restroom, he unexpectedly ran into someone else.
Pei Yansi had calmed down, but upon seeing Shen Heyu, his rationality crumbled again.
Shen Heyu noticed Pei Yansi walking towards her, but she pretended not to recognize him and tried to quickly walk away.
Just as she was about to pass by him, a hand fiercely grasped her wrist and pinned her against the wall.
Shen Heyu’s eyes trembled, "Mr. Pei, what are you doing?"
Pei Yansi looked coldly at the woman in his arms, "Shen Heyu, must you pretend not to know me?"
Shen Heyu bit her soft lip, "I’m not pretending not to know you, it’s just that our relationship can only be this way."
"As a qualified ex, I should no longer disturb you, especially since you are soon to enter a new, blessed marriage," Shen Heyu did not look into Pei Yansi’s eyes, just feeling his warm breath on her face.
Feeling his familiar scent surrounding her, the calm in Shen Heyu’s heart suddenly began to throb again.
The heartbeat quickened, growing more and more urgent.
"So you mean I shouldn’t disturb you anymore?" Pei Yansi frowned unhappily.
"Mr. Pei, please let go of me and then we can talk properly."
A mocking laughter came from above.
"What? Are you that afraid of him seeing this scene?" Pei Yansi’s lips curved into a mocking smile.
"Mr. Pei, as a well-known figure, it wouldn’t look good if others saw you entangled with your ex-wife," Shen Heyu kept her gaze down.
Seeing her unwilling to look up at him, a burst of irritation rose in Pei Yansi’s chest.
He lifted his hand to grasp Shen Heyu’s delicate chin, forcing her to look directly at him.
"Are you considering this for my sake?" Pei Yansi asked her, his gaze tightly fixed on her captivating, affectionate eyes.
He tried to find a trace of lingering love for him in Shen Heyu’s eyes.
But Shen Heyu’s gaze was so calm, as calm as dead water.
"Mr. Pei, considering you are Yuexue’s father, isn’t it normal for me to consider your situation?" Shen Heyu’s tone was light.
Her flavorless tone, like plain boiled water, made Pei Yansi unconsciously narrow his eyes.
"Don’t involve others. Do I really mean so little to you?" Pei Yansi’s prominent Adam’s apple rolled.
Shen Heyu lowered her head, biting her lip silently.
The next second, Pei Yansi fiercely kissed her.
