“ACCORDING to Kristoff, Demi White, a.ka. Demi is a half-Russian half-Filipino who formerly resides in Cebu and transferred here in Manila after discovering that her co-runner, Anne Patag, was killed by armed men van,” Fred told him as they walked towards the NBI Cyber Crime Unit hallway.
“She fled right away and became the pain in our ass now,” Euclid said, shaking his head. “The question is, who gave her hints about our undercover missions in Cebu?”
Fred shrugged his shoulders. “Still an unanswered question. But, with their notorious criminal activities online, there’s no doubt that they have the best and most skilled IT men that helped them track our mission.”
“Everything will end soon,” Euclid said. “We have their elite carrier.”
“Magdalene?” Fred turned to face him. “Do you think Maria will tell us everything?”
“She will,” he said. “We have our ace against her—” Euclid paused when he remembered what he heard about Sara.
“Her daughter?” Fred asked him and smirked. “Are you really sure about using her daughter to make her talk?”
Euclid didn’t answer. He sipped on his black coffee cup and continued walking on the deserted hallway of the NBI. He groaned when his headache kicked in again. He didn’t sleep well because of what he heard last night. The little girl could be his child… A familiar warmth inside his chest wrapped in his heart again. Maybe that’s why he felt something was being reunited again in him because his blood runs through Sara’s veins. The night before his graduation day was the first night that they shared together… And that was seven years ago. Maybe Wendy’s right. He is the father of Sara, and Maria just denied it because of her hatred for him.
“Fuck,” he cursed under his breath when his head ached again. “I should be still sleeping than to be here this early,” he complained and glanced at his watch.
It’s just four-thirty in the morning, and it’s only five hours ago after he and Maria made love again. Was it making love for her? Or, just pure sex? How will he know if Maria kept her cold treatment to him as if nothing happened between the? And, about Sara… Sara could be his own flesh and blood.
He clenched his fist on the cup. “I will find the truth…”
“Right,” Fred agreed. “And, I am sure that we’re just one more step away from the truth behind the Decagon,” he said and touched the screen on his tablet again. “As I was saying, we assumed that somebody gave Demi a hint that the Cebu NBI Department is targetting their illegal business.”
Euclid released his tension. He thought Fred also knew about Wendy and Maria’s conversation last night. But, if he already knew, he should be acting hyper and nosy around him now.
Fred looked at him. “Euclid,” he called his attention. “Are you with me?”
He nodded. “Yeah,” he said and think of an answer. “But, according to Maria, she’s been working here with Demi for almost three years.” He blinked twice and tried his best to ditch in his mind the memories of last night. “How come that her records showed that she just transferred here right after the death of her co-runner?”
Fred’s brows furrowed. “The flight history on March LOOK FOR DETAILS was named by her. That is the only flight history that Kristoff got from the Cebu airlines.”
“Then, maybe the other flights were in private,” he said and smirked. “I think we need to squeeze more of Kristoff’s talent. His sources are not doing their best to collect pieces of information.”
“Or, maybe their group was just really good at tamperings,” Fred said. “Everything is easy with the high-tech mind of an IT.”
“I doubt it, I haven’t seen in you doing your job at best,” Euclid muttered. “That’s why we’re here.”
Fred gave him a questioning look. “Is that all you’re going to say? Put blames on others and insult their skills?”
He looked at his partner. “What do you want me to say? Praise the flaws and failures in this mission?”
Fred frowned. “What’s up with you, Euclid?”
Euclid shook his head and threw the cup of his coffee on the utility, passing them. He heaved a sigh. “I’m just exhausted—”
“About last night?” Fred cut off with an arched brow.
Euclid looked at him, surprised at what he said. “How did you know what happened last night?” he asked, then remembered that Fred is an IT Specialist. “Did you put a hidden camera on my clothes?”
Fred’s brows furrowed. He looked at him as if he came from another planet. “Euclid, are you still drunk? We were in the bar together last night. I dropped you off at Maria’s house after, don’t you remember…” Fred trailed off, then his look at him changed. “Wait, don’t tell me—”
“It’s none of your business,” he cut off.
Fred burst out laughing. “Dude, did you forget that the IT team installed hidden cameras inside Maria’s house?”
Euclid paused, then glared at Fred. He grabbed his collar and hauled him off the ground. “Why you didn’t tell me?”
Fred laughed. “I told you about yesterday! But you’re preoccupied with whatever’s on your mind,” he explained and tapped his hand on his collar. “Why did something happen—”
“I will kill you, Frederick Vladimir if anyone from your team saw the footage in Maria’s house last night,” Euclid threatened him. “You know me, Fred. I keep my words.”
But his bastard partner just chuckled. “That’s why we’re here this early,” he said and pulled his collar out of his hand. “Let’s just hope that David isn’t in his best agent of the year mode now.”
Euclid and Fred walked their way towards the particular room that NBI Manila let them use for their mission. Before Fred unlocked the door, Euclid held his breath, praying that the place was empty.
Fred pushed open the door. They both let out a sigh of relief when the room was still dark and no signs of recent activities. But, when they stepped inside, they found David sitting in one corner, with headphones on his head and eyes focused on the monitor.
Euclid quickly went to him. “Agent D!”
