"How was the party?" Jasmine asked immediately she got inside.
She wasn't even surprised that they were not asleep yet obviously waiting for her, expecting her to divulge every little detail of her night out with Xavier.
"Fine" she whispered, lazily slumping on the couch.
"Just fine?" Jasmine asked, disappointed.
"Yes, just fine." She replied.
"Give us something. What was the event like? Now, can you agree with me that these events are a bore? Besides, what was the sexual tension simmering in the air between you and Xavier? You both looked like..."
"Can you fucking back off and stop yapping? I said the party was fucking perfect. Won't you let it go at that?" Maya yelled.
Jessica stared at her in shock.

Maya frowned and as she walked out, she could hear Jessica sniffing and asking Jasmine if she had said anything wrong.
"Fuck you Xavier Salvador, fuck you!" She whispered and then Falling on her bed with a thud, she cried into her pillow.

Xavier stared at her coldly for a while.
"I don't know what you are talking about. Out from what?" He said raising his brow.
"Out from this pretense, this game. Whatever out means to you. I am done." She stated forcefully, then dropping his ring on the desk, she turned to leave.
"So what would I tell Melissa when she asks about you or my mom? Or even Mr. Dominic who had taken a special liking to you huh?"
"You can make up something." She said scoffing, "You are way too good at lying and convincing people than you give yourself credit. But as for me, I am done going through this mental torture coupled with verbal lashings for something I am completely unaware of." She stated with finality.

"It is Miss Luke to you Sir, and in less than two months you will be getting my letter of resignation in the same spot where I dropped the ring." She said, her lips in a tight line, and then without giving him a chance to say a word, she walked out.
Xavier's eyes were at her retreating figure, not in the least surprised at her reaction.
He massaged his temple with his fingers perturbed. He had not slept a wink last night after he had gone out of control as usual.
It was a mannerism he was accustomed to whenever Diane's name was mentioned.
He wished, he could take all his words back now as he remembers every piercing statement, as he remembers how her brown eyes were filled with surprise and how he had watched a tear drop from her eyes, yet he didn't stop.
Because he was an asshole and a prick. A name he has been called so many times, he had lost count. A name, he owned up to with a smirk, his middle finger up in the air.
But, as he gazed at Maya who was intently staring at her screen while hitting the keypad, he bet visualizing it was his head, he knew he didn't want her to see him as one.
He wanted to be someone better with her. With her, he wanted to whisper into her ear at night telling her his years worth of fears, secrets, insecurities and that scared the shit out of him.
He was supposed to be cold, he was supposed not to give a fuck about her silly tantrum. He was supposed to threaten her and give her an ultimatum to put her shit together and continue with the agreement they had made.
But he did give more than a fuck about her tantrum.
He cared a lot... So much that it stole his sleep.

She sat on her seat, waiting for him to call her to his office, and then dangle a threat on the air making her swallow her words and wear his ring, showing up at every function and being a well-mannered fiancée.
So, she wasn't surprised when he stood up from his seat and made for her cubicle.
Her hands were sweaty in anticipation and her brow furrowed with forced concentration. Xavier knew she could tell he was beside her.
She knew he was standing next to her, but she ignored his presence typing gibberish on her system.
"Zzz?" He asked, looking at her system in surprise.
She stared right back at him, ogled infact now noticing the sleeping bags under his eye since he was much closer to her.
That makes the two of us she thought drily.
Though she knew, why her's had everything to do with yesterday's events, he was probably up so late to secure a business deal or something.

Standing up, she made for the table bringing out stacks of files that were related to the mentioned meeting.
"Cancel that meeting and the one after it. Reschedule with them. I will be busy."
She frowned, the last time she had to cancel an appointment, was one that brought tingles to her whenever she remembered and the image of him inside another woman was one she didn't think she want a repeat of.
She stood up, hurrying to leave.
"I would be busy with you. I have somewhere to show you." He whispered.
She stilled in her movement. She turned to look at him, but his back was towards her as he walked back to his office.
She sat back on her seat canceling his meetings, apologizing for the inconveniences even though she knew her arrogant boss was anything but apologetic, then rescheduling.
