Theo, who was contemplating the now-empty spot where Jonas and Shyun had stood seconds before, slowly raised his face. His eyes, for an instant, seemed distant, as if glimpsing something far beyond the horizon.
He stared at Sven, who held his trembling weapon in front of his body, his knuckles white from gripping it so tightly, the blade emitting a faint green aura.
"Ah, sorry. I got lost in thought for a moment."
Theo replied, his voice a surreal contrast of casualness, as if commenting on the weather and not a double homicide.
He completely ignored the aura that now enveloped Sven, strengthening his body and the blade he wielded, with a low sigh. Instead, his gaze turned to the sky, to the infinite and impassive blue that stretched above them.
"...You know, this is the first time I've killed someone. And, to be honest, it's strange..."
He paused, his eyes still lost in the celestial vault, searching for an answer, a sign, anything to justify the emptiness he felt.
"I imagined I would feel something. A weight on my conscience, perhaps. Or a surge of guilt. Maybe even a flash of satisfaction... or disgust."
His gaze then descended, meeting Sven's wide, terrified eyes again. An enigmatic and vague smile touched his lips, a mockery of an expression that didn't reach his eyes.
"But I feel absolutely nothing. Nothing. It's like crushing two ants. They were in the way, they were a nuisance, and I simply stepped on them."
Theo's glacial calm was more terrifying than any explosion of violence. The complete lack of emotion, the description of the act with the same importance as a household chore, all of it revealed a monstrous truth: the being before him was not just a cadet.
"What... what are you?"
The question escaped Sven's trembling lips like a breath of pure dread, an instinctive recognition that he was not facing a man, but something completely different.
Theo took a calm step forward. Sven instantly recoiled, almost tripping over his own feet in a reflex of pure animal fear.
