"It is true,’’ Adrian flipped a page of the file.
Lilith was stunned for a moment, ’’Huh? Did something happen in the main mansion? I haven’t had the chance to visit the Old Madam and Old Master lately..."
"Miss Quinn, the Old Master and Old Madam are in the best shape,’’ Ji Yan took a small step forward and cut her off in a polite manner.
’’Then, has it got something to do with the company?" Lilith looked concerned, ’’I haven’t caught up with Ronan and Kade in the recent days as well. Is everything...?"
"Both of them are doing well. Third Young Master is recently stressed about his studies,’’ Ji Yan said with a polite smile, ’’The company is fine as well.’’
"Then... What is it about?"
Ji Yan’s polite smile faltered for just a second. "The Second Master had other affairs to attend to."
Lilith paused for a beat before she smiled lightly, ’’I understand.’’
The room once again sunk in silence.
Lilith quietly sat in her seat, watching Adrian go through the documents, ’’What do you think of the document now...?’’
At this moment, Adrian’s phone rang, cutting off Lilith’s words.
Ji Yan lowered his head and passed the phone to the man, whispering something in his ear.
Adrian put the file down on the table and got up to leave.
"Ace...’’ Lilith stood up, a little taken aback but by the time she called out to the man, he had walked too far to hear her.
He didn’t look back even once.
Ji Yan looked at her apologetically, ’’Miss Quinn, Second Master must have something to do. How about this, I’ll take the file with me and get back to you later?"
Lilith smiled at him, ’’I completely understand how busy Ace has been lately. It’s also difficult for all of us to meet and spend time together as before. So, I was planning for some fun in the near future. Maybe then, Ace will finally have some time.’’
’’Of course." Ji Yan felt like it was such a pity.
In fact, everyone had thought that Adrian and Lilith would eventually get together.
Lilith had all the qualifications to be with Adrian, be it her family background, appearance or personality.
But then, out of nowhere, Adrian brought Ella over in his life and forced her to stay in the Eve Mansion.
Apart from the servants in the Eve Mansion, very few people knew about Ella.
When Ji Yan spotted Adrian standing next to the car with the phone in his hand, he shook off his far-reaching thoughts.
Others might think that way but as a person who knew the ins and outs closely, he knew that it was impossible for Ella to be replaced in his Second Master’s life.
"Second Master, I have collected the file and talked to Miss Quinn...’’
"What does it mean?" Adrian cut him off, his voice holding a semblance of curiosity.
Ji Yan sweated a little. When he had passed the phone to the Second Master, he had caught sight of Ella’s name.
He thought it should be a safe-to-pass text. But what did she write again that made his Second Master abandon business in order to decode her text?
But... No matter how Ji Yan looked, there seemed to be a few flowers floating around his Second Master’s head.
Taking it as a positive sign, he slowly arched his neck over and peeked at the phone where the message from Ella was displayed in full view.

Ji Yan slapped a hand over his mouth, eyes twitching at the absurdity of the situation.
Under such extreme pressure, Ji Yan sighed, ’’Master, don’t you know of the green hat metaphor?"
"Hmm?" Adrian’s brows tugged together.
"It...’’ Under Adrian’s sharp gaze, Ji Yan did not dare to stop mid-explanation, ’’It signifies infidelity, when one of the partners cheat on the other."
Immediately, the bright sky seemed to have darkened a bit as a gloom descended in the atmosphere.
’’Ah, no...! Miss Yu doesn’t seem to imply that she wants to cheat on you!" Ji Yan quickly explained.
Adrian’s eyes shifted slightly.
’’Or else, she would not have expressed her deep longing for you.’’
Adrian glanced at the text and his face looked a little better.
"But rather... I am afraid that she is asking you to remain faithful,’’ Ji Yan felt like it made sense.
There was no way Ella would provoke the second master by saying that she wanted to cheat.
Along with her routine bootlicking, she was probably trying to act like a normal wife.
When Adrian heard that, not only his expressions did not improve but his face darkened even further.
"Second Master, from what I know, this should be the normal behaviour of the partners who usually stay away from each other,’’ Ji Yan secretly dabbed his flower embroidered handkerchief on his cold sweat before he confidently continued, ’’It’s natural for them to be a little insecure and doubtful.’’
Suddenly, Adrian’s gaze landed on the file in Ji Yan’s hand.
Ji Yan’s mind buzzed. Second Master, you are scaring me with that gaze, you know...?
After sending the text to Adrian, Ella put her phone in silent mode and threw it in the bag.
Adrian’s mood was more unpredictable than the weather of Vermilion City. Although he seemed to have let her go peacefully today, she needed some backup assurance to know that he would not have a mood swing suddenly.
Ella was already two hours for the classes so on her way to the department, she ignored all the scrutinizing gazes that came her way.
But when trouble had to come, it would come no matter what path you take.
Esther was laughing and giggling with her friends until she spotted Ella.
Ella sighed. Trouble never missed its cue.
