"Don't tell me you made this for me?"
He smiled as he nodded.
Wow, sometimes I forgot this man by my side loved me so much. He kept his promise even after I died.
"I memorize that day very well. I told you that I'm tired of living in a room with the others."
He nodded, "Not only bored but you also said one of them likes to snore."
"You remember it." I chuckled.
"I'm sorry I couldn't take good care of you. You left because I couldn't do anything and now you are hurting because of my mistake." His face hardened.
I lifted his chin with my finger, "Don't say that." His words made me miss someone. The first time I woke up in Jazzlin's body, Barra said the same regret, "Shall we come down to eat?" I tried to break the tension.
His face showed a smile and then he carried me.
"Hey, my leg isn't hurt." I reminded him that it was not my leg that was hit by the gunshot.
Of course, he didn't listen to me.
Arriving at the dining table, Alia was already there. The little girl ran over after she saw us. Haytham lowered me from his arms, then I immediately ran to hug Alia.
"You have woken up from your sleep." She asked as I rubbed her back.
"Yeah." I answered slowly.
"I thought you had transformed into Sleeping Beauty." She chuckled.
"Oh, you're already good at teasing huh." I let go of my hug then tickled her. She giggled and holding her tummy.
"Let's eat." Haytham told us as he walked over to take his seat.
Eating with them felt like going back in time. The only difference was that now we were adults and live well.
I watched Haytham who had been stealing glances at me. Sure enough there was something he wanted to say to me.
As Alia finished her meal, she immediately being told to return to her room. Haytham took me out of the room, then we sat in the living room.
"What's wrong?" I asked after we were being silent in a minutes.
His eyes returned to me after his long thought, "I think it's been too long I held myself from saying this until your second birth as Jazzlin. But, I think you should know about my true feelings."
I hold my breath, it was the time to express his feelings.
"I love you Janielle, as my friend, as my life partner, even more than anything. Your death brought scars and feelings of resentment to me that I didn't realize I had come so far."
I looked away. Obviously I didn't have an answer. My heart no longer loved him, but another man.
"I already know you love another man." My eyes immediately glanced at him, he gave me a sad smile.
"You don't need to ask me how I know. Before I knew it was you who moved Jazzlin's body. I've watched your movements. You love that man."
"But, he left and dumped me away." Disappointment flashed back in my heart. I remembered the last time the look from Barra's face. He didn't even try to stop Haytham at that time.
I was surprised when Haytham shook his head, "Hey, you must be thinking about that time?"
Of course, he meant what had happened at the hospital.
"I think you misunderstood. At that time Barra was still trying to digest what I told him about Jazzlin, the person he loves. I'm sure he was so shocked that he was dazed."
I paid attention to every detail of his words.
"He cares for you. Do you know who shot you?"
I raised my eyebrow.
"Barra. It wasn't for you, but me. That means he's trying to save you right?"
I almost cried at his explanation, "Then what happened?"
"He panicked because you were the one who got shot not me. I purposely kept you away from him so that he have time alone to reduce his anger and realize how valuable you are to him."
"You know very well about him." I put on a curious look.
He chuckled, "Didn't I tell you that we were in the same college?"
He had said it on purpose when we bumped into each other in front of the hospital's lift.
"Is it for real?"
He nodded, "He's been in love with Jazzlin from a long time ago. Everyone can see and realize it except that girl. I don't think Barra himself is aware of it." His eyes were busy scanning mine. Seemed like he was waiting for my reaction.
I just put on my blank expression. Instantly something hit me really hard. Barra didn't even know that I was not the woman he had loved all this time.
"Stop overthinking, but you have to do something. You need to gain his trust again. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have told him about the accident." Haytham gently rubbed the back of my hand.
"It's fine. Living by covering the truth from him is also wrong." At least he already knew and this was easier for me.
"I will support you, even though it might be difficult to make him believe again." He shook his head.
Call us stubborn, but since childhood we were like that. Haytham and I would not give up achieving our goals, let alone we only live once. Enjoy it now or regret it when it's gone.
I wanted to know what Barra was doing right now. His heart was definitely broken, but he still tried to protect Jazzlin even though he felt betrayed.
Even in a coma, I could find out what was inside the agreement letter of my father and Mr. Sumedh. It was an agreement for Mr. Sumedh to help my father close the accident case that made Jazzlin a suspect in an irresponsible killer.
It was also the reason why Jazzlin's father hated her so much.
God, it was so complicated.
I quite agreed with Haytham's idea. For now it was possible that Barra didn't want to meet me. So, I just gave him a little time longer, but this distance between me and him was killing me.
Would he realize that he lost me when I was away from him? Would he look for me then pick me up after finding me?
What if he felt that without me, his life would be happier and less burdened?
Putting aside my bad thoughts, I chose to walk around every corner of the Sanders mansion.
Haytham had been living there with Alia. I was sure he did everything himself because there wasn't a single servant here. When compared to Barra's mansion, his mansion was also big but inside it seemed more empty. It wasn't the same as what the article had been saying that Haytham was living a glamorous life.
Everything was designed as simple as possible.
My room was next to Alia's while Haytham's room was across ours. He also had bought me a bunch of clothes which prepared in the wardrobe.
My steps did not stop just for a moment I found various family photos. There was also Haytham there. He looked so cute. I laughed seeing him take a photo with a popping style. He looked irritated.
The hem of my back t-shirt being pulled, made me look back and found Alia who had a prank face.
"How's your condition?" She pointed to the bandage on my armpit.
I shrugged my shoulders, "Bad enough." Honestly, it was still hurt so bad. I didn't expect it to be me who would ward off the bullets Barra launched.
"Does it feel like being pinched?" She frowned as she flicked her eyes to the right and left many times.
"It's worse than that." I showed a scary face until she let out a painful grin.
"Then what does it hurt like? Like an electric shock?" She shook her head, "Or is it worser?"
I also couldn't explain what kind of pain it was, but it was hurting me. It felt like my arm was getting difficult to move.
"Oh my God, I forgot to tell you something." Her small hand slapped her face, making her grimace at the clap of her own.
I tried to check if she was going to cry but she looked back at me and then said, "Haytham said there's an event tonight, but, I'm not sure you can go see your condition like this." She glanced at my bandage.
It sounded like an important event. My brain immediately focused on a man. Would Barra also attend it? I had to go there.
But, I had to follow what Haytham said right? Oh my God, I just wanted to look at Barra one last time. I really wanted to see his face, paid attention to his every movement and where his eyes were staring at.
"I'll go there." I told her, "Will you be there too?"
"Really?" Her eyes looked at me so bright.
"But, first. Could you tell me what's this event for?" I smiled back, "Or who invited him?"
"It's from the Ainsley actually."
Oh my honey bunny, "And what's that for?"
"I don't know." She shrugged, "I accidentally heard that." Haytham didn't invite her then. Alia just concluded it herself.
Wait a minute, it meant that this was not an event but a settlement of yesterday's accident. This was likely to having dangerous consequences.
