Hōki and Suiko barely moved. They were paralyzed, staring at Naruto as if they were facing something they couldn't comprehend… as if they were looking at a monster.
In front of them, the wound on Naruto's hand began to steam. The skin regenerated before their eyes, the flesh reconstructing itself in a matter of seconds.
Before they could even blink, the wound had completely vanished.
Naruto shook his hand, as if it were nothing, and looked at them calmly.
"You should've done your homework before trying to ambush me," he said quietly.
That they had even considered attacking him… and worse, that they had done so without understanding who they were up against, was almost insulting.
After all, there wasn't a single corner of the Land of Fire—or of the other Elemental Nations—where his name hadn't been heard.
Since his appearance at the Chūnin Exams, his reputation had only grown.
Everyone knew what he had done.
They knew he had faced and survived the Demon of the Mist, Zabuza Momochi, and Haku Yuki.
He hadn't just faced them—he had defeated them.
It was also known that he had killed Kisame Hoshigaki, the Monster of the Mist, without receiving a single scratch.
And soon, very soon, the world would know that he had also taken down Orochimaru, the White Snake of Konoha.
One of the Legendary Three Sannin.
And even then… the Four Celestial Symbol Men thought they could defeat him?
Naruto narrowed his eyes. The air around him grew denser, heavier.
"Next time you want to play at being hunters… make sure you're not aiming at the wrong prey."
Suiko was the first to break the silence after Naruto's words.
"Retreat, Hōki! As long as one of us survives, our mission won't have failed!"
Hōki didn't hesitate. He turned around and fled into the trees, as fast as his legs could carry him.
Suigetsu stepped forward. Even Karin seemed ready to jump after him. But Naruto's look stopped them.
"Tch. At least let us have some fun too..." Suigetsu muttered, crossing his arms.
Unfazed, Naruto pulled a three-pronged kunai from his pouch and threw it with precision. The blade passed inches from Hōki without touching him.
"Five seconds," Naruto murmured, locking eyes with Suiko. "Enough to kill you."
Suiko's Infinite Armor had the ability to absorb chakra from anything it touched. Anyone else would've tried to avoid it.
He vanished in a flash. In the blink of an eye, he was in front of Suiko.
Before the man could react, Naruto had already grabbed him by the chest. His fingers clutched the armor as if it meant nothing.
With a single pull, he tore it from his body like it was a rag.
Suiko didn't even have time to raise his flail to defend himself.
The armor dropped at Karin's feet, and she immediately understood Naruto's intentions. She pulled out a scroll and sealed it without saying a word.
"Say hello to your companions in the Pure World," Naruto said coldly.
His right hand began to spark. A high concentration of electrical energy appeared in his palm.
The sound of a thousand birds filled the air.
Before Suiko could say a word, Naruto pierced him with the Chidori. His hand went clean through, destroying his heart.
Suiko fell to the ground, lifeless.
"Exactly five seconds," Naruto whispered.
Then, in a yellow flash, he vanished.
Miles away, his kunai sank into the sand in front of Hōki.
Naruto appeared right beside him, giving him no time to react.
"Did you really think you could escape?" he said with a smirk. "How naive."
He grabbed him by the neck and slammed his face into the ground violently.
"I-if only Seimei-sama were here…! You'd be begging for your life!" Hōki spat, blood in his mouth.
Naruto ignored his words. He crouched down and picked up Hōki's Sword of Fire. The blade was black, broad, with a green gem embedded at the tip, and its hilt was decorated with bones. He found it... peculiar. It looked like a futuristic sword, but at the same time, barbaric.
"Looks like something out of a cheap MMO," he thought, amused. "The kind of sword the Black Swordsman, Kirito, would use."
He swung the sword in a single motion.
Flames erupted from the blade, roaring hungrily.
Hōki barely had time to scream. In seconds, his body was consumed by the fire, reduced to ashes. The wind carried the remains away, as if he had never existed.
Naruto remained there for a few more seconds, watching the Sword of Fire still wrapped in flames.
"All these weapons will make a great addition to my collection," Naruto murmured, a somewhat goofy smile forming on his face as he gathered the loot.
His collection of swords and artifacts was growing steadily, that was true. However, none of those weapons felt… his. They were powerful, flashy, even unique—but none truly fit him.
For now, he was content with Samehada. They had grown fond of each other since their first meeting. The chakra-devouring sword seemed especially fond of him, like a dog that had chosen its owner.
The problem was that Samehada wasn't his style. Too big. Too wild. And too prone to attacking him if he didn't feed it enough.
And then there was Reika. Naruto sighed.
He still hadn't given up on the idea of her giving him the Kusanagi no Tsurugi—the very one she had stolen from Orochimaru right under his nose.
He just had to find a way to convince her.
Naruto and the others spent four days in Takumi Village after defeating the Four Celestial Symbol Men.
When they showed up in the chat group, Naruto didn't hesitate for a second to expel them.
He had no intention of letting them stay. Not after what they had done.
During those days, Karin didn't give him a moment's peace. She dragged him everywhere, determined to have her "perfect date," the very one that had been interrupted when Orochimaru destroyed Tanzaku Castle.
Naruto let her do whatever she wanted. He didn't mind.
He also used the time to commission a new Chokutō from a local blacksmith.
Ever since his sword had been destroyed in the battle against Orochimaru's giant snakes in Konoha, he had been fighting without a proper weapon.
"Do you really think you can pull it off?" Naruto asked, leaning against the frame of their shared room's door.
Kabuto and Suigetsu were in the room across the hall. The last he remembered of them was that Suigetsu had duct-taped Kabuto to the wall. He'd even covered his mouth to shut him up.
Naruto wasn't sure if that was a permanent solution, but he did know that, so far, Suigetsu was doing a great job.
"Who do you think you're talking to?" Karin raised her voice proudly, sitting on the bed with her legs crossed, wearing only a tank top and her underwear. "I'm Karin Uzumaki, one of the last Masters of Fūinjutsu."
Naruto looked at her openly, eyeing her from head to toe.
"Do you have to be dressed like that?"
"I'm trying to tempt you," she replied with a playful smile. "Hopefully, you'll jump on me at any moment."
Naruto smiled, amused.
"Yeah… any moment now," he repeated, without moving an inch.
At the moment, Karin had her newly forged Chokutō between her legs, with the Kubikiribōchō in front of her, and Hōki's Sword of Fire within reach as well.
"Focus on replicating the regenerative ability of the Kubikiribōchō," Naruto instructed. "The Sword of Fire stuff is a bonus. Useful, but not necessary."
Naruto was an expert in Fūinjutsu, yes, but he had never enjoyed the process as much as Karin did. That's why he gave her this task. She enjoyed it, unlike him.
The Kubikiribōchō, due to its size, was a hassle to him, so he had decided to leave it to Suigetsu. But that didn't mean he was going to give up its main advantage—a sword with the ability to regenerate.
"Maybe when we get back to Konoha, you can convince Reika to let me study her Kusanagi no Tsurugi," Karin suggested without taking her eyes off the seal she was drawing. "Maybe I could copy some of its abilities."
Naruto nodded with a half-smile.
"I'll make sure to convince her," he replied. "Be ready first thing in the morning. Karura can't wait any longer to return to Sunagakure."
"Of course," Karin nodded, still focused on her work. "I'm glad Lady Karura will finally be reunited with her children. I'm also looking forward to seeing the desert… they say the sunsets there are beautiful."
Naruto caught Karin's hint and nodded in agreement.
She wanted to watch the sunset with him.
Naruto took off his belt and dropped it next to his bag and ninja headband. Then, he took off his cloak and lay down beside her on the bed.
He knew it was going to be a long night, with Karin working on his sword right next to him.
And he couldn't help but mentally curse the moment he realized how bad that sentence sounded.
