Acela POV
Finishing my morning routine I change into my uniform to get ready for the last day before my day off.
The last few days have been hard, really hard on my human body but I like the work, it makes me feel useful again and I've really grown on the people here.
I've made friends here and I'm actually having fun here.
I know it's not a glamorous life I've chosen to live but if my mother ever told me anything in our time together is that, you must live life your way and not the way someone wants you to live it, spend every moment seeing the positive and cherish the moments.
I'm beginning to understand what she meant by it.
A knock at my door interrupts me from putting my work shoes on.
Who could that be? It's too early for Mason to come for me. I quickly slip on my other shoe and smooth down my clothes. Damn is that a crease on the skirt? No time!
Opening the door I see the face of Elizabeth, head of management. "Good Morning Miss Shaw." She says in an overly happy tone.
Not noticing Brim with her but I notice she's holding something. I smile politely. "Good Morning Ma'am."
She hands me what seems to be a uniform in a bag. "Today you're with me dear, I'm afraid time is scarce so change and I'll explain on the way." She hints at the outfit and I nod confused.
With her? What? I quickly unzip the bag and take out a similar-looking uniform but this is clearly a dress, it's definitely not a maid's uniform, why do I have a server's uniform? Am I even qualified to wear this?
I quickly change into the dress and slip on the new shoes that were in the bag, heels with a little height to them, not too difficult to walk in but I'm slightly embarrassed as I've never worn heels before.
Please don't let me trip in front of anyone.
I grab my phone and put it on silent and put it in my pocket as I go back to the door to leave with Elizabeth.
She claps her hands together happy. "Oh wonderful, perfect fit! Now let's go, lots to do, such little time." She says glancing at her pocket watch.
I follow behind her uncomfortably as I try to walk in these damn shoes. "Um, so what are we doing today?" I ask trying to keep up.
She is all smiles when she looks at me. "Well dear today you are to serve the King and Queen, I'm afraid they need help with the upcoming event this Sunday as you've probably heard about."
I nod. "The 100th birthday of the two twins?" I ask as confirmation.
She frowns slightly. "Prince Caelan and Princess Lisla, be sure to address them as such." She says before leading us towards a lavish kitchen that is in full swing.
There are so many people in this huge kitchen it looks unreal to me, everyone here is busy and focused on doing something.
A huge pale old man comes towards Elizabeth as she smiles admiringly at the man. "Ah dear, this here is the new girl Acela Shaw. Acela this is my husband Ricardo." She introduces me as she shoved me forward slightly.
He is HUGE and I mean huge. This guy was pure muscle, he looked scary but also the kindest man ever at the same time.
Ricardo grins. "My! A beauty, pleasure to meet you miss." He says as he bows to me and I watch dumbfounded. Do I bow back? Or courtesy? I'm just standing like a weirdo smiling.
He looks me over and smiles. "Quiet thing, oh. Here are the teas all ready, have a good day poppin." He says winning to me than kissing Elizabeth on the cheek lovingly.
Poppin?
We grab the teas and make our way to the grand dining hall where we will serve tea to the King and Queen.
DO NOT FREAK OUT.
Elizabeth smiles at me, she clearly noticed I'm nervous, the tea was rattling a bit, much to my attempt to stop it. Why am I so embarrassing, ughhhhhh.
"It's alright dear, they are quite lovely people." She says quietly as we enter through the doors the guards open for us.
Wow. This place is gorgeous. There are beautiful paintings on the ceiling with lavish colors and art I have definitely seen before hanging on the wall, I've read all about the royal black family and their history, it's truly sad and I admire the king in what he did, the war was truly horrible and people suffered for years after the war but with the queen by his side, he ruled with fairness and things were back to normal... almost.
The next thing I notice has me sweating and my heart pounding out my chest. Holy royal there they are. Sitting, actually sitting in a room I'm standing in.
The queen notices us first as she smiles widely at us both carrying the tea in. She is dressed in a light cream gown and her long brown hair is behind her ears, she makes something so simple look so beautiful, seeing her this close is like looking at an angel.
I am definitely keeping my thoughts to myself about the queen. I'm so embarrassing.
"Elizabeth! How are we this morning?" The queen asks and Elizabeth smiles back. Are they friends? Wow.
We place the tea down as I try not to let the presence of the king scare me. He hasn't said a word or even looked up at us since we arrived here, he is reading something.
"Very good your majesty." She says happily and then they both look at me.
What?
Uhhhh I stand there dumbly as I stare. I definitely feel the sweat drip. Oh my god.
"And you? Oh I believe I haven't met, are you new?" The queen asks and the king grunts lowly as I nod my head.
"Y-yes your majesty and erm I'm really good." I stutter out as I curse myself in my head.
Stupid, stupid stupid.
She giggles and it's a sweet sound. "Oh Kane, doesn't she remind you of a younger me?" She asks her husband who looks up at me dead in the eyes and I still.
Holy fuck. He is really good-looking. I mean I knew that but damn. He is also absolutely terrifying I feel my legs begin to shake from his hard stare alone.
His eyes zero in on my features then smiles slightly. "I see similarities, but no one beats your beauty mate." He says deeply as he stares into the eyes of the queen, causing a blush to be highly visible on her cheeks.
Wow, I did not expect him to say that in front of us.
She coughs breaking the sudden sexual tension in the room which is definitely making me uncomfortable. Something tells me he teases her a lot around people by her reaction, I don't know why but I smile.
Elizabeth stands beside me as her hands go to my shoulders. "This here is Acela Shaw, she will be helping with the preparations, she started this week and is very capable your majesty." She says while praising me.
The king and queen look my way while the queen smiles widely and the king goes back to reading. "Oh, I'm so glad and welcome! Oh! Kane! She's perfect for my painting." She says to her husband while looking at me excitedly.
