Pokémon:Trainer's Gambit Chapter 100

Natsume smiled and said: "Granny, I'll take this Squirtle." Granny Chihiro nodded silently, feeling a bit reluctant. But she couldn't help but admire Natsume's discerning eye. Out of all the Starter Pokémon trios, he managed to pick the most outstanding Squirtle at a glance... It seems even the most unassuming appearance couldn't fool him... Granny Chihiro leaned on her cane, squinting at the Squirtle. In such a competitive environment, the reason Squirtle could live so leisurely was due to its innate ability. All things have aura. But being able to resonate with it is extremely rare. The reason Squirtle possessed this talent was because its father was the former principal of Tokyo Metropolitan University's Clawitzer. This Clawitzer's Ability was 'Mega Launcher,' and its mastery of 'Aura Sphere' was unparalleled. The former principal of Tokyo Metropolitan University had even won the Touran Conference Championship with it. 'Aura Sphere' isn't a hereditary move. So Squirtle's move list didn't include 'Aura Sphere.' But this Squirtle had inherited the aura talent, making it nearly unbeatable within Tokyo Metropolitan University's Pokémon Day Care. If it could master Mega Evolution, a Mega Blastoise with the 'Mega Launcher' Ability combined with this talent... Even Granny Chihiro couldn't imagine the sheer potential this Squirtle possessed! But... she had already given her word. The fact that Natsume had chosen Squirtle was a testament to his keen eye. Granny Chihiro sighed deeply, shaking her head with a smile. "Since you've chosen it, it means your judgment is worthy of this Pokémon!" Natsume smiled faintly. Out of all the big shots, he managed to pick the ultimate slacker. Even Natsume had to admire his own choice. "Truly, I am amazing!" Natsume thought to himself. "However, you'll have to catch it yourself." Granny Chihiro tapped her cane. "If the Pokémon doesn't accept you, all of this is pointless." He agreed with Granny Chihiro's philosophy on catching Pokémon. For Natsume-sensei, who had no interest in battles or research, the emotional connection with Pokémon was the key factor in catching them. "Don't worry, it will definitely accept me!" Natsume said confidently with a smile. Pokémon and Trainers resonate with each other. Natsume-sensei, who aspired to be a slacker, and Squirtle, who napped in broad daylight—this was a match made in heaven! Natsume took off his sunglasses, rolled up his pants, and waded into the cool stream. Squirtle, still withdrawn in its shell, had already sensed everything through its aura. A glint flashed in Squirtle's eyes. After so many Trainers coming and going... Had it finally been discovered? Natsume suppressed a laugh and coughed lightly. "I think we're quite similar." "We share the same goals and are striving in the same direction." "I've caught two adorable little ones. Though they can be a handful... with you here, I'm sure we'll all get along great." Natsume was overjoyed inside. This is the ultimate slacker move! Choosing a Squirtle with no inherited talents... I refuse to believe that raising a turtle at home could lead to the house being destroyed! The stream murmured, and the moss-covered rocks were slippery. The turtle shell on the stone remained motionless. Natsume knew that for Squirtle, leaving the Pokémon Day Care was a tough decision. After all, staying here meant it could continue being a slacker. Being a Trainer's Pokémon? That was a different story. But the longer Squirtle hesitated, the more reassured Natsume felt, sighing inwardly. Truly, this is a kindred spirit! Natsume smiled. "With you here, I'm sure our dreams will come true sooner!" The aura conveyed Natsume's sincere emotions to Squirtle. Squirtle sensed no ulterior motives, only a genuine desire for it to join the team. Squirtle fell silent. The world was too dangerous. 'Surviving in troubled times, without seeking fame or glory.' It had planned to lay low in the Pokémon Day Care until it evolved into Blastoise. But Natsume was sincere. After a mental struggle, Squirtle finally sighed. It was time to step into the world. Joining a determined and discerning Trainer might not be so bad. Squirtle slowly poked its head out of its shell, glanced at Natsume, and nodded calmly. For this act of recognition... I'll help you achieve your championship dreams! Natsume smiled faintly. This is like Bo Ya meeting Zi Qi, or flowing water finding its perfect match! Granny Chihiro also nodded approvingly. Even Squirtle acknowledged Natsume. It seems Natsume's determination to grow stronger is truly unwavering! Natsume's gift to Eevee was a Silk Scarf. To Haunter, he gave 'Five Years of College Entrance Exams, Three Years of Mock Tests'—wait, no, it was 'Blue Oak's Breeding Guide.' For Squirtle, he prepared the Black Glasses. Squirtle curiously took the sunglasses from Natsume. First, it used its aura to check, making sure it wasn't an explosive or some new type of Poké Ball. Once satisfied, Squirtle nodded. Though the sunglasses weren't the triangular kind, Squirtle looked every bit the boss when wearing them. Squirtle adjusted the sunglasses and nodded at Natsume. Granny Chihiro smiled. "It's saying you can catch it now!" He pulled out a few Poké Balls, including a Premier Ball, a regular Poké Ball, and a Dive Ball. Squirtle pointed at the Dive Ball, gave a thumbs-up, and grinned. As expected, a Water-type Pokémon is better suited for a Dive Ball. Natsume smiled, picked up the Dive Ball, and tossed it at Squirtle. Squirtle frowned, bent backward dramatically, and deftly dodged the Poké Ball. The Dive Ball missed, rolling away with a clatter... Natsume & Granny Chihiro: ??? The atmosphere grew awkward. Darn it, I dodged out of reflex! Squirtle scratched its head awkwardly, scampered over to the Dive Ball, poked the button, and was sucked inside in a flash of red light. Natsume wiped his cold sweat and muttered: "I feel like... this kid might not be the sharpest tool in the shed." Granny Chihiro also chuckled awkwardly. "It's strong, but a bit... simple." Simple? Isn't that what makes it a Squirtle?! Squirtle's skilled dodge earlier had given Natsume a moment of concern. But Granny Chihiro's words immediately put him at ease. "Strength doesn't matter," Natsume said with a smile. "As long as it's a lovable goofball!" A lovable goofball and a total slacker... Squirtle, you're the Pokémon I've been searching for! Natsume picked up the Dive Ball lying quietly on the ground and, with a touch of dramatic flair, raised his hand holding the Poké Ball. "Squirtle, Get☆Daze!" Before he could finish, Natsume stumbled. A massive earthquake shook the ground, and a long tunnel burst from the base of the distant mountain, sending debris flying as it rapidly approached! "Granny, what's going on?" Natsume's expression changed. Granny Chihiro, however, remained calm and smiled. "The Onix on the mountain is in heat. This happens every now and then." "Granny, how can you be so calm about this?!" "What's the big deal? Just have Squirtle battle it." Suddenly, he realized something. A drop of cold sweat rolled down his forehead.
