Path of Alchemy Mastery Chapter 29

29: Chapter 29 Two Strange Cultivators 29: Chapter 29 Two Strange Cultivators On the only path leading to Pingyun City, two strange Cultivators were approaching. One was noticeably taller than the average person, standing at least one and a half times taller than his companion, his gaze slightly dull. This little Giant was carrying a massive axe on his shoulder. The axe was emerald green throughout, and its blade glinted with a ghostly chill, eliciting admiration from anyone who saw it as a formidable weapon. In contrast, his companion seemed somewhat more normal, with a thievish, triangular head and scruffy clothes, though he carried no weapon, only a huge sack tied to his waist. These two people were heading towards Pingyun City. “Kid, what do you think Donghuang had us follow for? We’ve rushed here all three months, and that old Xuanyuan was too terrifying, nearly discovering us multiple times,” the little Giant asked with a voice like an echo from a jar. “Big Dummy, you think I wanted to come? On his single command, we’d run until our legs broke. But that old man is really twisted. If it weren’t for my keen nose, able to track by scent, we’d have been discovered long ago,” the shorter one patted his chest, his heart still racing. Once discovered by Xuanyuan, both their identities would have likely been exposed, and Xuanyuan would have killed them on the spot without giving them a chance to speak. “But Donghuang did say, if we accomplish this task, he’ll immediately give us what we want. I’ve been longing for that Forbidden for a long time,” the big guy said excitedly as he saw the walls of Pingyun City in the distance. “Hey, don’t be too naive. Do we still not know what kind of person Donghuang is? This guy is even more ruthless than his father, the Emperor. If I hadn’t already been dragged onto his wicked boat, I would never deal with such a person. Others only prey on enemies, but this guy doesn’t discriminate; who knows when he might sell us out,” the shorter one sighed, revealing that they were there on Donghuang’s arrangement. “What exactly does Donghuang want us here for? What’s the deal with this Mu guy? I’ve never seen Donghuang pay so much attention to one person,” the taller one continued to ask. “Big Dummy, I tell you you’re dumb, but you never admit it. I looked into it before coming; this Mu Can was Donghuang’s rival back in the Immortal Ancient Academy, also a disciple of old Xuanyuan. But after a serious injury from falling off Eagle Cliff, he lost all his Cultivation, and that’s why he returned home. This time Donghuang took interest because Xuanyuan, who hasn’t left the academy in a hundred years, suddenly left with three disciples, so he sent us to follow and see,” the shorter one patiently explained, his companion being strong but not the smartest. “Heh heh, I’m fine being dumb, I have you, don’t I? After all these years, don’t you know me?” the little Giant wasn’t offended by being called dumb; he just chuckled. well, Donghuang takes this mission very seriously, even giving us a Sound Transmission Jade, a real treasure. He must consider this matter important, or he wouldn’t bear to part with it,” saying that, the shorter one took out a Jade Pendant from his chest, shaped like a tiny bird. This was the Sound Transmission Jade capable of sending messages regardless of distance but limited in the number of uses. Looking at the dull state of the Jade Pendant, it clearly couldn’t be used many times before it would become useless. Even so, the shorter one treasured the Jade Pendant incredibly. “The Treasures from the Imperial Family sure are plentiful, we should ask Donghuang for more in the future,” the taller one nodded, as anything from Donghuang was a valuable item. “Let’s get to work first. Xuanyuan and his people have entered the city; Pingyun City must be anything but peaceful right now. We should catch someone and ask around,” the shorter one tucked away the Sound Transmission Jade. Though they talked about Donghuang in such a way, failing the task was not something either of them would want to face. Working for Donghuang required not only vigilance against enemies but also caution against Donghuang himself, a lesson the shorter one learned through dealings with Donghuang. Coincidentally, a party of men and horses that had just left the city was approaching, and the duo—one tall, one short—walked right towards them. The group of riders was powerful and well-mounted, with the son of Pingyun City’s City Lord leading the charge, sitting atop a tamed, massive black tiger. A mighty array of people was rushing towards them along the main road from a distance. Upon spotting the two individuals in the middle of the road, they showed no intention of slowing down, and simply charged straight ahead into them. “Seeking death, tsk tsk.” The short one, seeing this scene, showed no fear on his face, instead shaking his head as if the misfortune was not about to befall him. No sooner had his words fallen when the little giant at his side instantly dashed forward, launching a counter-charge against the incoming group of riders. “Seeking death,” muttered the son of the City Lord of Pingyun City, speeding up. The man-high black tiger collided head-on with force. The black tiger had been acquired by the City Lord from a Sect specializing in training Demon Beasts at great expense and possessed the strength to contend with members of the Martial Arts Sect. A strength sufficient to roam unchecked in a place like Pingyun City, unless one encounters those ancient, undying characters. This was also the reason for the City Lord’s son’s arrogance. In Pingyun City, aside from a few individuals in the Mu Family, whom else did he even consider worthy of his attention? Even considering the Mu Family, the City Lord’s son thought they wouldn’t be able to hold out for much longer. His journey out this time was precisely for the Mu Family. At the moment of initial contact, the City Lord’s son realized he had erred; this time, he had kicked an iron plate. The charging giant took up his green giant axe from behind his back, and with a single swing, he split the Martial Arts Sect-level black tiger in two. The massive black tiger tumbled down, collapsing in the distance and knocking over the City Lord’s son as well, who was now covered in the blood from the black tiger’s body. With just one strike, the black tiger, which normally ran rampant across Pingyun City, met its demise without even managing to let out a cry of agony. The City Lord’s son, now lying beside the road, witnessed a high-level slaughter unfold before his eyes. The brawny man holding the green giant axe, like a War God incarnate, charged into the crowd, slashing his way in and out as if the place was uninhabited. After two advances and retreats, none of the people present were left alive, except for the City Lord’s son. Even the mounts were cut in two by the giant with his axe. Watching the ground covered with mutilated flesh, the City Lord’s son threw up violently, almost vomiting out his stomach’s contents. “See, I told you, killing is an art form, but you just wouldn’t listen. Look at this mess, it’s disgusting,” the short one said as he walked up and gave the little giant a harsh kick. The little giant did not get angry from being kicked, only placing his green giant axe, without a drop of blood on it, back onto his back. He scratched his head and chuckled foolishly. He then turned to look at the City Lord’s son, who was sniveling and vomiting. Seeing the little giant looking at him, and assailed by the stench, the City Lord’s son was so frightened that he wet his pants.
