Nanxi hadn’t figured out how to respond when the man spoke again:

The man had already leaned back into the car seat, eyes half-closed.

His breaths were shallow, and he smelt faintly of refreshing mint with an undertone of tobacco…
Nanxi bit her lip, sulking a little, “Well, I am very young!”
The car fell quiet once more, save for the man’s barely perceptible smile.
His beautiful smile, set aglow in the flickering lights outside the car window.
Finally, they reached the pharmacy.
Seeing Nanxi attempting to get out, Mo Yan frowned, “Miss Gu, could you look after Mr.
I’m not quite confident leaving him alone.”
Look after…Lu Yinchu?
Nanxi glanced at the drowsy man and thought, was it really necessary to have someone watch over him for such a short time?
But she held a good impression of Mo Yan and didn’t want to be too heartless, so she nodded.
Then she heard Mo Yan thank her…
Dressed in a crisp suit, Mo Yan made his way to the pharmacy.
Nanxi and Lu Yinchu remained in the car.
Nanxi kept her lips pursed, sitting upright, not daring to move.

The man next to her suddenly spoke, and Nanxi frowned—He knew everything!

“Mm…” This response was heavily muffled, deep and resonant.
The man opened his eyes, taking a glance at her, which caused her breathing to hitch unexpectedly!
“What are you afraid of?
I’m not going to eat you!”
The man’s handsome lips curved into a smile as he slid a cigarette from his pocket, “Do you mind?”
Nanxi shook her head, thinking to herself: it’s your car, and you’re in charge here.
“Are you from H City?”
Lu Yinchu exhaled a cloud of white smoke, asking the question with a rich and wholesome voice.
Nanxi shook her head, “No, but I’ve been living in this city for four years!”
“Hmm!” the man responded, “So, do you like it here?”
Nanxi thought that she must like it!
She loved having her aunt and cousin here, as well as people like Yang Su and Lan Qiqi.
She liked that H City was the final destination for Li Weihuan, and she enjoyed being able to look up at the dazzlingly blue sky here!
Otherwise, how could she have spent four peaceful, carefree years here?!
Nanxi said, “H City, to me, is a warm place.”
What Nanxi said was the truth, but not the whole truth.
Though Nanxi did like the city, it took her time to adapt, primarily because of the winter season here.
Where Nanxi had lived before, the weather had always been warm with no snow or cold.
Summers were hot, often forcing her to stay in her little attic to escape the heat!
During her first year in H City, Li Weihuan had warned Nanxi:

In reality, H City’s winter was truly warmer than Nanxi had imagined, besides a few bouts of flu due to adapting to the new weather in the first year, everything else was fine.
Now, after four years, she had pretty much adjusted to it!
Lu Yinchu, hearing this, turned his face towards her.
Under the faint light in the car, her bright, beautiful face was vaguely hidden in the alternating lights and shadows.
Yet, she was still breathtakingly beautiful!
Lu Yinchu adjusted his breathing, then said, “The warmth you’re talking about is probably because you’ve met some warm-hearted people here, isn’t it?”
Nanxi nodded,”Sort of!”
Lu Yinchu didn’t respond right away—instead, he took another puff of his cigarette, his mood seems agitated when he said, “It’s getting late, and it’s not safe for a young girl to take a cab alone.
Let Mo Yan drive you…are you going back to school or going to Liang’s place?”
Just as Nanxi was about to refuse, she heard Lu Yinchu say, “Since you’ve come to see me, it’s my responsibility to ensure your safety…
Nanxi lowered her gaze, it seemed like an acceptance.
His invitations were always hard for her to refuse!
By the time Mo Yan returned, several minutes had passed.
Nanxi didn’t ask why it took so long, she figured that he was probably buying her some time which she should be grateful for.
Deep down, she was actually scared that Lu Yinchu might blame Mo Yan!
Fortunately, Lu Yinchu didn’t!
Lu Yinchu simply told Mo Yan, “Go to West Street, drop Nanxi off at her aunt’s place!”
Mo Yan hesitated for a moment before nodding, “Okay.”
When they were nearly at her aunt’s place, Nanxi asked them to stop, “I can get off here, okay?”
The last thing she wanted was attracting attention by having a luxury car entering a “slum” late in the evening!
Lu Yinchu slightly curled his lips as if he understood, telling Mo Yan, “Park the car!”
Mo Yan parked the car.
As she got out, Nanxi politely said her thanks.
Lu Yinchu rolled down half of the window to look at her.
His eyes, as dark as the night sky and as deep as stars, left her breathless.
He said, “I’ll be on a business trip tomorrow and should be back in three days, assuming no accidents.
I’ll give you a response then.”
Nanxi nodded, “Alright.”
The man fell silent, seemingly with no intention of leaving just yet.
Nanxi felt awkward and spoke, “Mr.
Lu, be safe on your journey.
“Good night!” The window rolled back up again, his handsome features disappearing from Nanxi’s gaze.
Nanxi still waved in the direction of the car window — a gesture toward Mo Yan.
