Otherworld Advance Team Chapter 14

14: Chapter 11: The Sub-beast Race 14: Chapter 11: The Sub-beast Race At the end of the class, Luo’er climbed up from the virtual machine and called to Tangmo who was about to leave. “What’s the matter, Luo’er?” Tangmo blinked and looked at him. “Well,” Luo’er hesitated for a moment and said, “I want to organize our team for training this weekend.” “What kind of training?” “Training about team cooperation, the test we failed the other day.” “I’m sorry, that day I…” Tangmo felt guilty all of a sudden when that day’s events were mentioned. “I’m not blaming you anymore, so don’t worry about it.” Luo’er sighed and said. “Where would we train?” “I have commissioned Teacher Zhu to build a platform for us using a virtual machine. We will come to the Virtual Machine Room this weekend and enter the virtual environment for training.” “Why are we training in the virtual machine?” Tangmo asked, tilting her head in confusion. “The virtual machine can simulate a magical environment, so we can combine magic. After all, once we enter the Otherworld, we will inevitably use magic.” “Oh, magic!!” Tangmo was just fascinated by the feeling of using magic, she gets excited whenever magic is mentioned. “Also, the virtual machine environment can better simulate a combat environment. I have an idea now, planning to assign roles to each of us on the team, that way, everyone can play to their strengths.” Luo’er said seriously. “What kind of roles?” Tangmo was becoming increasingly confused. “For example, Sister Moumou, your shooting skills are average and you’re rather clumsy, but your talent for magic is very good. So if you’re positioned as the magic output for the team, you’ll be able to make the most of your strengths.” Luo’er analyzed. “I don’t fumble around.” Tangmo pouted and muttered under her breath. Luo’er didn’t hear her muttering, so he continued, “You go inform Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang, I’ll go find Baiyue. We will meet here this weekend.” Luo’er turned his head to look at Hu Daoke and Cheng Ziang who were not far away. They were at the virtual machine still squabbling, continuing their conflicts from the virtual machine to the offline world. Taking advantage of the lunch break, Luo’er left Tangmo and the others and came to Baiyue’s class alone. Before he got in, he heard a rough and arrogant voice coming from the classroom, “Hey, Baiyue, why are you always wearing a hat, is there something weird growing on your head? You mixed breeds are really bizarre, all sorts of weird appearances.” His words drew a burst of laughter from the classroom. Luo’er scowled, kicked open the classroom door forcefully, and made a huge noise. Everyone stopped laughing and looked at the mysterious elf at the door. Luo’er scanned the classroom. Baiyue was still sitting at her desk studying quietly, but there were several human hybrids around her. In the academy, human hybrids made up over eighty percent of the population, and as a result, a chain of discrimination against mixed races had formed. “Who the fuck are you, coming to our class to make trouble!” The lead human hybrid shouted with his eyes wide, looking extremely aggressive. “Boss, he’s an elf!” One of the followers ran up to him and nervously whispered in his ear. “So what if he’s an elf?” The boss turned his head and glared at him. “There are only two elf hybrids among the first-term students in our school, one male and one female, and if I’m not mistaken, his name should be Luo’er.” “What’s all this about Luo’er, isn’t he just a mixed breed? What’s there to worry about!” The head shouted back loudly. “The academy has regulations, racial discrimination among students is a serious crime. Leave now, and I will pretend nothing happened.” Luo’er stood there, calmly saying. “You mother-” The leader was about to charge over when one of his followers pulled him back, so he roared in frustration, “Why are you stopping me?” “Boss, this guy is not to be messed with,” the follower whispered seriously into his ear, “I’ve heard he has connections with the upper echelons of the academy. If we piss him off, we won’t be able to handle the consequences.” “What nonsense are you talking about? He’s just a mixed elf!” he yelled arrogantly. “Boss!” His follower pulled him back again, feebly whispered into his ear, “Our principal’s last name is also Luo…” The leader glanced at Luo’er after hearing his words. He still stood there with a calm expression on his face, showing no threat at all. But considering his follower’s advice, he decided to swallow his anger. So, he glared at Luo’er fiercely and left the classroom with a few of his followers. After they left the classroom, Luo’er finally relaxed his tense muscles. The tension just now, he had been ready to combat multiple opponents. “Are you okay?” Luo’er came over to Baiyue. She was still quietly working on her exercises, seemingly not distracted by what had just happened. However, as soon as Luo’er approached her, she immediately stopped writing, looked up and glanced at him. Luo’er saw some thoughts in her eyes, but wasn’t quite sure what they were. He pulled over a chair to sit down, maintaining eye level with her, then asked, “Does your class always treat you ?” Baiyue looked away, her long eyelashes once again shielding her eyes. After a moment of silence, she softly spoke her first words, “I’m used to it.” “This is not something to get used to. Indulgence only leads to insolence. Write down the names of those people for me, I will help you deal with them.” Luo’er said, pushing a piece of white paper in front of her. Baiyue seemed to not refuse, she took the paper and began to write down the names. Luo’er watched her, hesitated for a long time before he slowly asked, “Can I ask you a question?” “Ask!” Baiyue continued to write the names without looking up. “What race are you, exactly?” Baiyue paused at his words, the pen in her hand also stopped. After a long silence, she said slowly, “Sub… “Sub-beastmen…” Luo’er repeated the somewhat unfamiliar vocabulary. He recalled that Sub-beastmen were supposed to be a subspecies of the Beastman Race, but he knew little about them. And judging from her appearance, Baiyue’s features didn’t seem to possess any characteristics of a Beastman. Could it be on her head? Luo’er thought, his gaze focusing on Baiyue’s bulky hat. Noticing his stare, Baiyue subconsciously used her hand to cover her hat. “By the way,” Luo’er shook off his random thoughts and said to her, “We plan to have a squad training session this weekend. We’ll notify you once we’ve agreed on the specific timing. Upon hearing his words, Baiyue was taken aback. She slowly lifted her head to look at him, her lips moving slightly before she asked, “You guys… did you reconcile with them?” Luo’er hesitated before nodding, “Yes, we couldn’t continue the way we were. Besides, Moumou didn’t do it on purpose.” “You…” Baiyue silently looked at him, and then turned her face away. She seemed like she wanted to say something but ended up not saying anything, continuing to write down the names. Taking the list, Luo’er went to the instructor’s office, handed the list to the relevant teacher, and then went straight to Wang Xu. Wang Xu had just returned from military guidance, the outdoor heat emitted from his body, his sweat soaking his chest. “Since you were tasked with forming a team, the number of times you’ve come to see me has increased. It seems that letting you have dealings with others is quite beneficial!” Wang Xu said, looking at him with a grin. Luo’er didn’t pay attention to his teasing and asked directly, “Do you know about the Sub-beastmen?” The United Nations’ Otherworld research team has classified them as a subspecies of the Beastman race, although they look nothing like Beastmen.” Wang Xu couldn’t help but criticize the team’s research results as he spoke. “Do they have any specific characteristics, like on their heads?” Luo’er continued to ask. “Their ears,” Wang Xu turned around and searched on the screen, “Their ears are peculiar. They are usually taller than human ears, and…” Saying this, he opened a picture and told Luo’er, “Their ears form a shape similar to that of cats or dogs, and are covered in fluff. Of course, some Sub-beastmen will show other animal characteristics, such as tails, but apart from this, their characteristics are almost identical with ordinary humans. You could think of them as humans that look a bit like animals.” The picture on the screen was a hand-drawn portrait of a Sub-beastman. The little figure in the sketch with fluffy beast-like ears looked like a child standing next to the tall Caucasian Otherworld researcher. Looking at the fluffy ears on his head, Luo’er seemed to understand something, and finally had a confirmation in his heart. “Speaking of which, that last girl in your team, the one called Baiyue, she’s a Sub-beastman, right?” Wang Xu suddenly thought of something and thus said. Luo’er didn’t say a word, but just quietly watched him, waiting to hear what he’d say next. “I took the time to look up her information, and this girl really is extraordinary.” Wang Xu scrolled through the information on the computer screen, pulling up Baiyue’s file within seconds. In the picture, she was still wearing her hat, looking gloomy as ever. “Star ace of Class Three, excelling in both academics and training. They had a magic examination in class a few days ago, and she is truly a magic prodigy.” Wang Xu looked at Luo’er as he said this, only to see him staring at the picture of Baiyue in deep thought. “I’ve heard that Tangmo from your team is also a magic prodigy. Now you have two prodigies in your team, which increases your chances of going to the Otherworld.” “Your words imply that you don’t know why no one picked them.” Luo’er sighed, his face filled with sadness. “Geniuses are all like that. If you manage them well, your team would be the dark horse in the selection!” Wang Xu said optimistically. “I hope your words would come true.” Luo’er didn’t look pleased at all. He waved his hand and said, “I’ll head back first.”
