With his toiletry bag left in the yard, shower was just an excuse to save Di Qiuhe’s face. He Bai locked himself in the bathroom, took a casual shower and changed into a pajama he left here before. Bored, he took out the mobile phone and browsed it to kill the time.
There were several unread texts and missed calls from Di Qiuhe. Those were from when He Bai fell asleep in the car.
With a guilty conscience, he scratched his face and turned his attention from text messages to an online game.
About half an hour later, he won an easy win. Taking a look at the time, He Bai thought Di Qiuhe’s mood should be lightened, thus getting up and stepping downstairs.
He saw nobody in the living room, but Di Qiuhe’s coat on the sofa together with his and shopping bags across the carpet. The door was closed, and lights at the entrance off.
Faint sounds came from the kitchen behind the living room. He Bai sneaked over and stopped outside the dining room, craning forward to see what was happening.
Di Qiuhe, in a dark brown shirt only, stood inside with his sleeves up, clumsily fiddling with a small kettle. He slightly knitted his brows, as if confused about what was the ‘toy’ for.
The kettle was a pretty tiny supermarket giveaway in the image of a cartoon character. It featured a delicate switch, which distinguished it from the market.
He Bai found it adorable at first glance and opened it to have a check, so he knew where its switch was.
Di Qiuhe even began to torture the nose of the cartoon kettle while He Bai was looking on.
He Bai couldn’t help laughing and teased, “It’s filter tip, and it’s tail is a switch. Just shake it.”
Dumbfounded, Di Qiuhe almost hit the kettle on the ground and turned his head to look at He Bai. He put the kettle on the table and hid it behind him immediately when they had eye contact, his ears flushing, explaining, “Who says I’m going to use it? I just get bored and opened it to have a look.”
“Hmm, of course” He Bai nodded and walked in, pretending not to see the water stains left on the table. He moved to one side and picked up the kettle to fetch water, while saying, “This kettle is too small and thus of little use. Given that we have a bigger one and that there’s no kitchen utensils, we have no choice but to make do.” He put the kettle on its matching base, plugged it in and shook its short tail.
The round display lamp on the top of the kettle was on with a click.
Di Qiuhe looked over at its tail and the lamp grim-faced, as if harboring bitter hatred for it.
He never shook it! No wonder it didn’t work… It was winter now, and bottled water he bought were too cold to drink. Di Qiuhe meant to boil some water for He Bai so that he could warm up, but… He believed that the kettle was largely to blame. Who could expect that the ‘tail’ should be its switch?
“Why are you staring at it? The little thing’s cute, isn’t it?” He Bai touched its round ears and smiled, “If you like it, we can go to the supermarket another day to buy ‘its dad’ back. This kettle is the smallest among its collection, and there’s also a dark one at normal capacity, which was enough for daily use.”
Di Qiuhe stopped complaining now and nodded, “Okay, we should have a look tomorrow.” Then he came closer, and He Bai was sandwiched between him and the table.
He Bai raised his eyebrows and leaned against the table, his arms crossed, “I have classes tomorrow.”
Di Qiuhe reached out his hands, “I can wait.”
He Bai canted backwards, “Won’t you visit your grandfather? He must have been discharged from the hospital.”
“I’ll drive you to class first and go to see my grandfather. After that, I can pick you up to buy the kettle,” Di Qiuhe held He Bai in his arms with a smile, bowed to rub him with his nose, “and slippers.”
Trapped in Di Qiuhe’s embrace, He Bai simply gave up dodging, resting against his arms in a relaxed manner. He raised one finger to poke at him in the chest, smiled and asked, “How are you going to drive me? On foot? I’ll certainly be late tomorrow.”
“I can ask Assistant Wang to drive a car here next morning.” Di Qiuhe’s body tightened as He Bai touched him. He moved even more closer with a meaningful look, inclined his head and slightly bent down.
He Bai sensed his intention, paused and found he himself unresistant to this kind of intimacy with a man. Smiling, he asked when Di Qiuhe was about to kiss his lips, “But do you know the address of our home?”

Di Qiuhe paused, his arms tightening, and bowed to take a bite of He Bai’s lips.
He Bai: “…” It hurt a little, and the way of their kissing seemed different from what they watched from TV.
Di Qiuhe stepped back, compressed his lips and blushed. Then he bowed again and licked where he bit.
He Bai gave him a glare, “… Can you… Oh!”
Di Qiuhe tightened his arms, bent down heavily as he spoke, and kissed his lips. Then he stuck out his tongue and drove straight in, giving him a ferocious French kiss.
He Bai found his lips and tongue go numb, his heart pounding and his head dizzy.
It felt not… not bad. Di Qiuhe was a good kisser.
