Once Doormat Now Untouchable Chapter 129

Chapter 129 Sydney frowned. "I'm busy." Caleb chuckled. "Then I'll let myself in?" He didn't think much of it. Even though Sydney had moved out, she was still his wife. Once he resolved things with Penelope and Sydney calmed down, life would return to normal. To him, entering her place felt natural. He asked only out of courtesy. Only then did Sydney remember she had never changed the smart lock password after moving in. Annoyance flared. She quickly stopped him. "No. I'll come back now." Ever since leaving Viridian Garden, she hadn't wanted Caleb anywhere near her private life except for unavoidable obligations. In her mind, home was a space reserved for the closest people. If Caleb went inside, she would feel exposed, violated. After hanging up, she looked up to find Julian watching her with idle amusement. His flawless face practically said, "Try standing me up and see what happens." Sydney hesitated. "Could you drop me at Haven first? I need to sign for something." Julian's smile was cold. "Sign for Caleb, you mean?" "He's not a package," she replied. She had never planned to let Caleb in, so the idea of "signing for him" was absurd. Julian shot her a sideways glance but said nothing more. He told Peter in an icy tone, "Send Ms. Wilson home so she can play house for a bit." Sydney fell silent. She didn't bother arguing. In Julian's eyes, she was a lovesick fool. Unless she could throw a divorce certificate in his face, anything she said would sound like denial. Yet she couldn't even get that certificate. Perhaps disgusted by what he saw as her pitiful attachment, Julian lounged back in his seat, his aura dark and dangerous. The car pulled up to Haven. Sydney quickly got out, desperate for air. Julian's eyes followed her hasty figure, his gaze heavy and stormy. Peter, oblivious, muttered in frustration, "Mr. Sterling, when do you think Ms. Wilson will finally wake up? Caleb defended that mistress right in front of her at the hotel. How is she still not giving up? One call from him and she runs over." "Why don't you ask her yourself?" Julian's brows pinched. "What am I, a worm inside her stomach?" He was furious. Peter scratched his head, baffled. "I just... don't dare..." Then, hesitant, he asked, "Are we really waiting here?" Since when had their boss ever waited on anyone? 1/2 Chapter 129 Julian didn't answer. He only tapped his finger rhythmically against the armrest. One, two, three, four, five, six.... When Sydney stepped out of the elevator, Caleb was already waiting by her door. The setting sun filtered through the glass, casting a warm glow over him. White shirt, suit jacket draped over his - he looked refined, elegant. When he saw her, he smiled softly. "You're fast. I wouldn't have minded waiting longer." "I was nearby," Sydney said curtly. Her eyes flicked to his hand. Along with the carefully packaged painting, he held a bag of fresh groceries. For the first time, he actually looked like a husband. Sydney had always thought of him as detached, untouched by ordinary life. Yet here he was, buying groceries, ready to cook. She only took the painting, her tone cool. "Alright. Go home and cook for Penelope." "What are you talking about?" Caleb wasn't offended. He smiled, gentle as ever. "I know what happened that day upset you. I'm here today to make it right, to cheer you up. Okay?" He lifted the grocery bag. "I bought plenty. Tonight, I'll cook you a feast myself." 212
