Mythology Rebooted Chapter 149

"Has the Evil God been destroyed?" As he stumbled around, Ker’s head hit the stone wall and stars burst in his eyes as he came to. "No," Wayne said succinctly, sprinting ahead. "Then what are you still doing here? Don’t tell me you haven’t figured it out, hurry to Bart Manor, the Evil God is going after Oga. I’ve set some things up that should hold him off for a while," Ker urged anxiously. But soon, he understood why Wayne was not pursuing the Evil God, instead winding through the sewers. The Evil Dragon breathed fire in pursuit, the hot flames evaporating the water vapor and baking the surroundings a fiery red. When it got closest, the flames had already set Ker’s hair on fire. "Quick, throw me down, it is after you, not me." Ker screamed in terror. Wayne knocked him out with a chop of his hand. This was the worst team he’d ever led, with far too much nonsense talked. Up ahead, the abyssal chasm loomed, and the Giant Dragon behind them had already caught up. Wayne stopped, dispersed the grey fog in his eyes, a vertical slit formed in his chest, and a tentacle reached out, slipping the Dark Ring onto his finger. Wayne raised his finger toward the Evil Dragon, and perhaps by coincidence, the Dark Ring was fitted onto his middle finger. The roar of the Evil Dragon echoed in every corner of the underground river, and the two lost Golden Retrievers faintly heard something stirring. "Veronica, did you hear that noise?" "Yeah, your stomach is groaning, gurgling." "Shut up, it is not." Because different totems marked different entrances, the blood used to open them had to match; both Veronica and Veronica had fallen into another sewer passage, not only failing to find the markers Wayne had left along his way but also sadly losing their direction. As they walked, Veronica grew a bit hungry and casually tossed the pot to Veronica. The two reached the end of the sewer; ahead was a shallow bank. Using her spore vision, Veronica saw a figure on one knee. The figure wore tattered Armor, down on one knee, one hand over the chest, with a Knight’s sword planted in front of him. Veronica raised her hand, casting sunlight, and saw that the Knight’s body had already decayed, his bones had turned to mud, leaving only the Armor in the kneeling posture of his living days. The once shiny Armor was now dull and covered in blotchy rust marks, worn around the edges, and even missing pieces in many places. Although the Knight had perished, his mindset had not, the pursuit of honor and belief deeply imprinted in the Armor and sword. Sensing the long-lost sunlight, the Knight’s Armor slowly stood up, drawing the sword and pointing it at Veronica. Veronica was taken aback, she had Dragon Blood, not being a Giant Dragon; the mindless Knight had obviously found the wrong target. Veronica paused, casting even more intense sunlight, enveloping both herself and Veronica within it. The Knight’s Armor retracted the sword, a thread of thought flickering, then striding past the two women toward the front. It sensed the presence of the Evil Dragon. The Evil Dragon pursued Wayne, stepping into the trap woven by darkness, and with one false step plunged into the abyss. The thundering subterranean seawater surged back, extinguishing the flames and tossing up boundless heatwaves, rapidly draining the Dragon Blood at the heart of the Evil Dragon. Once the Dragon Blood ran out, the Evil Dragon lost its energy core, its form collapsed and faded away. Wayne had drowned the Evil Dragon without hardly lifting a finger. Having eradicated the mobile calamity, Wayne felt immensely relieved; thankfully, the brainless Evil Dragon forged by Dragon Blood hadn’t been born on the surface, otherwise, the consequences would have been unthinkable. He could feel just how terrible the heat was within the flames, almost as hot as someone he knew in the low radiation zone without even realizing the radiation. Wayne’s expression grew grim; the Evil God, rather than wasting Dragon Blood, was intent on completing his arrival, and it could not be as simple as merely inhabiting Oga. What use would it be to inhabit a frail maid? It was unlikely the entirety of the Evil God’s mind could arrive, resulting, at best, in a seat in the Asylum. "However, Dragonheart Island would become a ruin." Wayne took a deep breath, reached into the void, and yanked hard... A tug, but... nothing came out. "What’s going on, where did my big Vest System go?" Wayne’s eyes narrowed; he had lost contact with Shadowmare and could not transform into the Death Knight on Dragonheart Island. "Is it too far away?" "Not right, I can sense Shadowmare; it shouldn’t be a distance issue..." Wayne closed his eyes tightly, his thoughts leaping to the vision of Shadowmare, commanding it as its master, his view crossing mountains and oceans, separated perhaps by an entire world, to see the Death Knight seated on the White Bone Throne. To be precise, it was an Undead Infantry that had lost its horse and head. The Undead Infantry had snatched Shadowmare, a thread of thought making eye contact with Wayne, a cold, despairing breath of Death washing over him. Crap, the old owner has come for it! Wayne hastily severed the connection with Shadowmare; the information Yuliya had provided was incorrect. The previous Death Knight had not disappeared; he had been there all along. His beloved steed, on which he had practiced his skills for so long, had made him adept at both riding and shooting. Surely things weren’t tight at the old owner’s end? "Just my luck, at this time..." Wayne muttered under his breath about his bad luck. The old owner could have appeared at any other time but chose this critical moment during the Evil God’s arrival to snatch Shadowmare, leaving Wayne in a difficult position. Should he now catch up to apologize to the Evil God? Wayne’s back squirmed, six tentacles stretched out, climbing along the downward slope of the sewer, corroding with the breath of Death any stone walls that stood in his way. Reaching the shipyard reservoir, he flung Ker aside, and the six tentacles on his back undulated, transforming into six pale meaty wings.
