CHAPTER 70

"Elena please listen to her.. " Alex tried to talk as Elena yelled at him, pointing the gun towards him.
"Put the gun down Elena," he said again.
"Just shut the fuck up Alex! I can't believe this. Hiding this huge stuff from your friends?"
"Is that why you stopped me from killing her at the last operation?" Elena said almost tearing up now.
"Elena I am sorry. I know I fucked up big time. I never wanted you to have this guilt of killing your mom" Alex said and glanced over to Sarah who seemed worn out.
"Sarah... Sar... " Emily tried to say as she struggled because the drug was slowly passing out of her system.
"Mom" Sarah said going out of the shock as she ran to hug her mom.
"Oh my God, Sarah can talk now? She can actually talk?!" Laura said unbelievably as Elena still pointed the gun at her mom who was grunting because of the leg that got shot.
"Sarah, please loosen my friends. But Liam, Mayor, and your mom can stay tied" Elena ordered looking at the artificial chest and the wiring that made her mom's voice to be robotic.
"This is unbelievable," Elena said laughing as she started crying.
"Elena please I.. " her mom tried to talk.
"Just shut the fuck up else I'm gonna gut you, you daughter of a bitch! You're a Jezebel!" Elena yelled at her as she sniffed.
Laura stared into space as she started collecting some memories.
"Now I remember, you know at the bank" she turned to face Elena who still her mother at gunpoint.
"Bonnie was trying to communicate with me through the chip we connected to her teeth. She asked the killer "why is your voice robotic? The sheriff knew We were going to recognize her voice that was why she used the wiring and connections. But the thing is that, how come her police officers never suspected her? I must confess, she's really good" Laura said removing the rope from her body that Sarah has freed.
"And how come you are alive?" Peter asked Sarah who was untying him.
"It's a long story. I wasn't dead. I was in 2033" Sarah said still untying him.
"Sarah... " Her dad called her whimpering but she glared at him.
"Please dad! Don't start now! Now is not the time"
"You know I've always hated you right from when I was six," Sarah said eying him seriously
"Elena.. " her mom called.
"Shut the fuck up mom" Elena yelled at her still pointing the gun at her head. She was still in shock and the world seemed to be spinning.
"Should I still call you mom? All those lives you have taken without regret. All those souls. You were always having sleepless nights trying to catch the killer, buy you, you were the villain" Elena stopped talking as her facial expression changed.
"Wait, you weren't having sleepless nights because you were trying to get the killer or stop the homicide. You were always worn out because you were not always at home at night, you are going about killing people while hiding under a mask and always running from the scene immediately. You're so fucking wicked mom! You killed Phillips! One of your police officers!" Elena yelled at her.
"Philips was--"
"Shut up mom! I'm still talking" she barked.
"And that your crime detecting room wasn't really for that right?" Elena asked as her mom sniffed.
"Answer me before I blow off your skull!" She yelled.
"You're right. That room is where I keep track of whom I killed and who I wanted to kill next. That's why I'm always mad when you enter there without my permission" Ruth said and used her pocket knife to cut off her trousers, then she tried to remove the bullet from her leg.
"And my police officers never suspected me because I'm their leader and they thought the killer was a man and I was the one raising a suspecting brow. I made sure I painted the Mayor as the villain because I wanted him to feel my pain. Him and his stupid council members" Ruth said and sniffed.
"You are so good at pretends" Emily muttered to herself.
"Look who is talking!"
FLASHBACK
Elena walked into her mom's crime detecting room.
Bonnie had earlier asked her to take a gun with her on the date Edward asked her to.
Though she thought Bonnie was crazy, she just felt like following what the kid said.
She got to the crime room, was about to take a gun as her eyes drifted to Phillips's picture on a table that had other files and documents on it.
She picked up the picture and stared at it for a while as she dropped it then her eyes darted to the map of Mystic Hollow that had different markings on it, each mark indicating where a homicide had occurred.
Elena brought out her phone and snapped the map.
END OF FLASHBACK
"That explains it. I'm so stupid. Why didn't I notice?" Elena cursed under her breath.
"Elena you have to listen to me!" her mom said grunting, she had tried removing the bullet from her leg but could not, she has to disinfect the wound and the pocket knife. She was seriously bleeding. So was the Mayor.
"I've been listening to you all my life. It's your turn to listen to me, you murderer!" Elena yelled at her.
"Elena please take it easy" Alex tried to say as she pointed the gun at him.
"I'm gonna blow your skull if you don't shut up! For Pete's sake, she tried to kill Bonnie, Peter, and all of us. She tried to kill Sarah too!" Elena hurled at him.
"Elena please take the gun away from him" Peter begged as she removed the gun, using it to face her mom again.
"I never tried to kill you, Elena. As in not that I never had the chance. I did have the chance to kill you at the bank. You were at the restroom when I disconnected your cameras. I could have killed you there. Even though you were on the mask, I could still recognize you because I'm your mother" Ruth said sweating profusely.
"You have no right to call yourself my mother. You're a murderer. And here we were, thinking the Mayor had a hand in this not knowing the devil was within" Elena said in rage as she squat close to her mom.
"Now listen to me. You're gonna answer any questions we're gonna ask and if you fail to say the truth or hesitate. I'll make sure you join my dad in the afterlife. Get that?" She asked sternly as her mom sniffed.
"And I'll gladly be an orphan" she added.
"I'm curious to know. That day at the amusement park Bonnie was almost killed. You were with Peter fighting inside the lighthouse when I called 911. You responded to us. How come?" Laura asked as Ruth grunted.
"What do you kids think I am? I'm a trained police officer and a detective, I was trained for 10 years that's why I'm the sheriff at an early age like this. Though the mantle of sheriffship belongs to the Gilberts..." Ruth said and stopped as she gave them all a look.
"Call my private emergency number," Ruth said and sniffed as Elena gave Peter a look. He nodded and called the emergency line as it responded immediately.
##"Hello, Sheriff Ruth here, state your emergency" the line responded as Laura's eye bulged.
##"ok we've received your casualty, we'll be there in a bit" the line responded after 2 minutes.
"Your radio is in auto-respond?" Laura asked half yelling because she was about freaking out.
"Yes. I programmed it that way. I don't want my phone to ring when I'm in a scene of murder" she said as she grunted in pain.
"Son of a bitch" Mayor muttered lowly.
"Wow! This is so cool!" Laura commended as she stared at Ruth who was struggling with her leg.
"And how come you're can appear in any crime scene immediately after a homicide occur since you're the killer? And sometimes you even come with your police officers " Peter asked as Ruth huffed.
"I have all my plans in place. It took me 10years to map out my strategies" she said and adjusted the way she sat and gave Elena a look who was curiously staring at her.
"My car is always hidden close to the crime scene. Very close to it. And take a look at this" she said as she tore open the black cloak she was putting on to reveal her police uniform as they all opened their mouths in awe.
"After the murder. I always run to my car which was always close by. I remove my murdering clothes and mask and drop in the car, revealing my police uniform. Then I drive straight to the crime scene. Sometimes, while driving to the crime scene, I meet my police officers van on the road and when they ask me where I've been, I'll lie that I heard about the homicide and decided to go to the scene immediately before calling them" she said as Sarah opened her mouth.
"This is unbelievable," Emily said. She had almost gotten herself back.
FLASHBACK.
(AT THE GRILL)
"Stupid Mayor, I've told you I wanted a curfew but you are still adamant. You don't want them to know how incompetent you are huh? How about I tell them how foolish you can be?" Ruth said as she entered her car while the mayor's limo and his convoy passed.
She put on her mask and the black cloak.
She drove close to the grill and took her sniper gun out of the van. Walking to a very conceded area, she placed the gun and scanned the grill with the sighter.
She saw the mayor giving his speech as she huffed.
"I could just end your life and end everything now. But I want you to suffer what I've suffered for 17 years" she said as she fired one of the locals.
There was chaos at the grill as her emergency line was called. It auto answered as she got to her car, removed her cloak and mask, and kept at the back passenger seat as she drove off to the grill.
She got there immediately her other police officers came in too.
END OF FLASHBACK
"Why were you insisting on the curfew?" Elena asked as Ruth's breathing began to hitch.
"I wanted the locals to see how incompetent Frederick was. He was so much in love with power and he wouldn't agree he was lagging. He never wanted the curfew because the locals would say his governorship is weak. And the council supported him. He had a problem with Jeffrey Logan because Logan told him the curfew might be the best option since the rate of homicide was still increasing rapidly despite the patrol" Ruth said and kept mute.
"So that was it?" Alex said with curiosity written all over his face
"You never told me why you wanted the curfew" Elena barked at her
"Can't you see it? With the curfew, it'll be easier for me to go to people's houses at the night and just kill them. It was really risky killing someone in a crowded area. I was scared someone might spot my car one day" Ruth blurted out.
"Hmm, that's why you were hell-bent on the curfew. So no one would see your car close to the crime scene when you're still murdering your target. Wow," Mayor spoke out for the first time.
"Shut your mouth! I never asked for your opinion. Get ready you're next. You all are gonna be interrogated!" Elena yelled at him.
"Why did you try to kill Logan?" Alex asked.
"It was a perfect time. The locals and police officers were suspecting the mayor to have a hand in the homicide. And then he had an argument with one of the council members, which is Logan. Don't you know if Logan dies, they'll suspect him because they just recently argued?" Sheriff Ruth said as Saran shook her head sideways.
"She had been playing with our heads all these while" Peter commended as he scratched his hair.
"And why did you try to kill Sarah?" Elena asked. This story was written by Naomi innocent.
She gave everyone a horrid look before she opened her mouth to speak.
