Chapter 1426: Luna’s Wrath
The ground trembled beneath the oncoming storm.
A massive force of werewolves was charging straight at them. Crawley, the Altered Hunters, Numba, and even the AFA students had already dealt with their fair share of wolves. But now—something was different. Something was wrong.
There was a change in the way the werewolves moved.
They rushed forward with unrelenting speed, eyes wide and filled with madness. There was no hesitation. No strategy. No coordination. They were consumed by a single, overpowering emotion—rage.
A rage to destroy anything in front of them.
“Damn it… damn it!” Gary growled, his fists clenched at his sides as he sprinted forward—charging ahead of the others, leaving the restaurant behind.
He wasn’t in his Werewolf form.
But that didn’t matter.
He felt no fear. Not now. Not when he was driven by a single burning thought: I won’t let anyone else die today. If someone has to take the pain, let it be me.
Far in the distance, Ylva narrowed her eyes as she spotted movement.
Her expression twisted in disbelief.
Is that… Gary Dem? she thought. The Howlers’ leader? Charging out alone… without anyone at his side? Has he lost his mind?
But he wasn’t slowing down.
As Gary closed the distance, the first wave of werewolves came into view—snarling, twisted by fury.
He focused Qi into his legs and leapt into the air with incredible force, his body soaring higher than any human should be able to. His hands raised overhead—and in that instant, the warhammer materialized.
Is that… a beast weapon?
She got her answer soon enough.
With a roar, Gary brought the hammer crashing down. It slammed into the ground with immense force, sending a violent shockwave tearing through the earth.
Gary had learned how to direct the power of the beast weapon’s strike. Earlier, he had spread the force outward in a sphere—an area attack. But this time, the energy burst forward in a straight line, cutting through the battlefield like a wave of destruction.
The shockwave barreled through the front lines, lifting fifteen werewolves into the air and hurling them backwards like ragdolls. Even those under the Luna’s influence—the ones possessed by her song—struggled to get back on their feet.
It was working. For now.
What is that weapon? Ylva thought, eyes narrowing. How is he so strong—even without transforming?
She scanned the field, noticing something else. Those were Slit’s men… where is Slit himself?
Ylva was starting to put it together. Out of all the visions she’d seen, this was the one scenario she hadn’t accounted for. Gary—standing tall, unshaken, and dangerous.
More werewolves closed in. A few from the front lines hadn’t been caught in the hammer’s initial blast. They lunged at him, swiping their claws wildly.
Gary ducked and dodged with practiced precision, narrowly evading each swing. When one finally managed to connect, Gary summoned the hammer mid-movement, using the shaft to block the strike.
Then, jumping into the air again, he delivered a powerful kick to one werewolf’s face—sending it crashing down—before swinging his arm around and summoning the hammer once more. The strike crushed another to the ground.
But it wasn’t enough.
The ones that had been knocked down before… they were starting to rise again. He couldn’t be their distraction forever.
I have to finish them faster, Gary thought. I won’t be able to hold them all off alone.
One of the werewolves, still standing, snarled and rushed forward. Gary’s eyes flicked to its chest—and there it was.
I didn’t even strike directly, and the hammer still marked it. That means…
He spun the warhammer in the air, feeling its weight. Then, with full force, he brought it crashing down on the werewolf’s chest.
The engraved symbol on the beast’s torso lit up instantly.
The hammer itself glowed blue, flames licking across the back of the head. Unlike before—where Gary had used his own Qi to fuel the demon-tier weapon—this power felt different.
It was the hammer itself.
The weight intensified. The weapon came down with devastating power, and the werewolf’s chest caved in completely.
There was no getting back up after that. Not even with the Luna’s song burning through its body.
“All of you!” Ylva screamed from the back lines. “Forget the green-haired brat—go past him! Focus on the area behind him!”
And then—she charged.
She moved with lethal grace, ducking low and coming up from underneath in a blur of motion. Gary barely had time to react, summoning the hammer and using the staff end to block her strike.
He pushed Qi into the weapon, straining to hold her back.
Ylva’s eyes locked onto his.
“I’ll deal with this one,” she said coldly.
There was a glint of curiosity in her expression.
“So… you came prepared. I didn’t know the Howlers had weapons like that. I’m surprised you didn’t use it the last time we fought.”
Gary didn’t answer. Instead, he desummoned the hammer, then stepped in and threw two sharp punches.
Ylva tilted her head effortlessly, avoiding both.
Gary twisted, summoning the hammer mid-swing—extending his reach. The sudden appearance of the weapon mid-attack gave him extra momentum.
But Ylva leapt above the hammer just before it made contact, flipping cleanly over it.
She landed behind him, and with a flick of her claws, she slashed across Gary’s chest. Several deep cuts appeared instantly, blood soaking through his shirt.
Damn it… she avoided it. She’s the first one who’s managed to avoid my hammer strike completely.
Even powered by the demon-tier weapon, Gary was nearly as fast as in his full transformation. But Ylva—Ylva was something else entirely.
Fast. Skilled. Precise.
And more dangerous than anyone Gary had faced so far.
She’s the Luna, Gary thought, wincing. And there’s one thing she can do… that makes her the worst kind of enemy for someone like me.
