My Werewolf System Chapter 1420

Chapter 1420: Scent of Survival Innu wasn’t just trying to escape the fight, he knew better than anyone that even with his Qi reserves, it would be foolish to think he could outrun a Werewolf. Especially one like Luzen. Werewolves were born to track, to hunt, to stalk their prey until the very end. That’s why Innu had to come up with something smarter. His initial plan was to head to the park, a place he knew other Werewolves might be lurking. If he could engage with them in the middle of combat, he could regain some of his energy by landing hits, recharging through contact. However, with how far off they had ended up from that area, it would take at least thirty minutes on foot just to reach it. Maybe, if he could somehow “borrow” a car, he could cut that time down to ten minutes. But Innu didn’t know the first thing about stealing cars, not like that would help anyway with someone like Luzen on his tail. Instead, he chose to stick to his drastic measures. Back on the rooftops, Innu dashed across the flat concrete, and with a burst of Qi, he kicked off and leapt from one building to the next. Rather than continuing along the rooftop path of what looked like a long line of apartment or office blocks, he made a split-second decision, he went straight for the rooftop door. Not slowing down for even a second, Innu slammed his shoulder into the door and burst through it. As he passed the threshold, he reached out with his telekinesis and pulled the door shut behind him, sealing it. Without missing a beat, he vaulted over the guardrails of the stairwell, descending by jumping down from one floor to the next, floor after floor, moving as fast and fluidly as his Qi-enhanced body would allow. ‘He might find me in here eventually,’ Innu thought, eyes darting for a new path. ‘But Luzen’s weapon is best at long range, and while he’s strong up close too, he’s more of a flexible, acrobatic type. Enclosed buildings , they’re better suited for me. At the very least, I can hide or make it harder for him.’ But Luzen wasn’t far behind. Landing on the neighboring rooftop with practiced ease, the Ironfang sniffed the air sharply, using his acute senses to track the fresh scent of his prey. ‘You’re sweating,’ Luzen smirked, lips curling in amusement. ‘You’re making this far too easy.’ Even without his nose, Luzen would’ve found his target. The metal rooftop door had been bent by the handle, deformed by a burst of inhuman force. A clear sign of someone rushing through. And that someone could only be Innu. Luzen entered the stairwell and paused. He could hear it now, echoes not of footsteps, but dull, rhythmic impacts. Loud, single thuds that bounced off the concrete walls. ‘Does he really want to play a game of chase with me?’ Luzen muttered, more intrigued than annoyed. He didn’t bother with the stairs. With a powerful push, Luzen dove straight down the stairwell’s open center shaft, free-falling through the air as gravity took hold. As he neared the sounds below, he reached out with one clawed hand, seizing a railing mid-fall. The metal bent beneath his grip, groaning from the pressure. Using that momentum, he flung himself forward. Part of the railing snapped free and clattered behind him, but Luzen didn’t care. He was already right in front of Innu. With a snarl, Luzen jumped, planting both feet in Innu’s chest. The impact was devastating. Innu’s body flew through the hallway like a cannonball, smashing through a heavy office door. He tumbled violently, crashing against desks, chairs, printers, papers and equipment scattering like a storm of debris. He groaned as his back slammed into hard surfaces again and again. When he finally stopped, he realized he was inside some kind of office space, cubicles, computers, and printers surrounded him, many now reduced to scrap from his violent crash. Gritting his teeth, Innu planted his feet and pushed himself upright. Wasting no time, he hurled his axes forward, charging them with a dense layer of Qi. Luzen could only enter from one direction, at least directly, so this was one of the rare moments where Innu knew exactly where his enemy would appear. That made it one of his best chances to land a solid hit. The axe flew through the air faster than Luzen had anticipated. Despite his sharp reflexes, he could only turn sideways, still not fast enough to completely dodge. The blade embedded itself deep into his shoulder. Luzen tumbled to the ground, gritting his teeth in pain as the axe was ripped backward, wrenched from his flesh by Innu’s telekinetic grip. It soared back through the air. Luzen reached out, his fingertips grazing the handle, but not enough to stop it. The weapon returned to Innu’s hand with a satisfying snap. ‘Good,’ Innu thought, panting slightly. ‘That hit restored some of my Qi. If it hadn’t landed, that strike would’ve been completely wasted.’ Still, he knew he couldn’t keep running and throwing hits . He wouldn’t get many more chances, and something else was beginning to wear thin too, something deeper, more urgent. Luzen wouldn’t stay down for long. Innu broke into a sprint, weaving through office partitions. As he moved, he used his telekinetic powers to hurl anything and everything at Luzen, dividers, chairs, broken computers, scattered tech, all flung like missiles to slow him down. ‘Because I’m the only human here, he can smell my scent from anywhere,’ Innu reminded himself grimly. ‘If this were an apartment building with other people around, maybe I’d have a chance to hide my trail…’ His thoughts darkened. ‘But doing something like that… that would put innocent people in danger.’ Was that a line he was willing to cross? He glanced out the shattered window across the street. If the structure of the opposing building matched this one, then the lower floors would be residential, rented apartments. The upper floors? Business offices like the one he was in. And that gave him an idea. ‘There’s only one thing I can do.’ With a quick pivot, Innu hurled his axe again, not at Luzen, but at the wall. The blade struck a small, red square mounted behind glass. The glass shattered as the axe slammed into it, and a split second later, the fire alarm began to wail. The shrill, echoing sound filled every hallway, corridor, and floor of the building. Sirens blared in every direction. Luzen’s ears twitched, his face twisting in mild irritation as he stood. “What the heck is this kid planning…?” he muttered to himself, suddenly more cautious than before.
