"What?" Felix blurted in surprise.
Now Felix wasn’t too surprised that Titan Capital might have a Sage working for them. There were Sages who had retired from their profession to become mercenaries working odd jobs on Earth—which could be lucrative and much safer than clashing swords with dark creatures.
But what really surprised him was the fact that they used one just to track down and get rid of a kid—Kyle.
Though this Sage was probably a low rank, as Felix couldn’t imagine himself as an SS-Rank taking a contract to get rid of a harmless person and even more; failing at that. He highly doubted an ordinary person could escape from him if he were the Sage—or even an ordinary person escaping from Sage Jessica, who was just a C-Rank.
So he speculated the Titan Capital was using a low-rank Sage. But then, there were two possibilities why a Sage might’ve been involved: it was either the low-rank Sage was already an active member of the Titan Capital organization, or a higher power was at play—probably whoever was behind the eviction of all the residents in the Bongo neighborhood.
"You were saying earlier that you don’t know where Kyle is and he hasn’t been taking your calls?" Felix reminded Ben.
If a Sage was after Kyle, even a low rank, then he was in grave danger. Felix was honestly surprised he managed to escape the first encounter. Chapters first released on novel·fire·net
"Yes. He was only lucky to get away the first time, and he called to inform me he’ll be laying low and I should do the same too," Ben replied weakly. "I believe they already know where I live and the only reason I haven’t been jumped yet is because of my family background and... I didn’t really do much on that day."
"That’s not enough. They’d surely come after you to get to Kyle..." Felix trailed off as she thought, "and my mother."
"I know. That’s why I thought they were the ones when you stepped in, because it’d be stupid of Kyle to come here this period."
Felix fell silent as she battled with her thoughts. The battle had become personal with her mom’s and best friends’ lives at risk. And with no way to contact Kyle, Felix couldn’t protect him and wouldn’t even know when they got to him—or if they’ve gotten to him.
Felix clenched her fists in anger. She needed to do something about it—quickly. And there was nothing else to do than to pay Titan Capital a visit.
"Like you said, they probably haven’t touched you because of your family background, so as long as you stay indoors then I believe you should be safe. I’ll see to it." Felix said to Ben with a reassuring smile.
She took out her phone to check the time, only to see it was five minutes past the agreed time for her date with Elizabeth—if you could call it that.
Felix looked up at the damaged pistol still pressed against the ceiling and released her hold on it, dropping it to the floor.
"I’m sorry about your dad’s gun. I hope he doesn’t hit you with a golf stick when he realizes it’s missing and you took it," Felix said and laughed in amusement, with Ben laughing nervously in reply as he scratched the back of his head.
"See you later," Felix finally said as she made her way for the window.
"Felix?" Ben called out before Felix could leave. "It’s good to have you back." He said with a deep smile.
Felix smiled in return and nodded at him, before swiftly hopping out, followed closely by Lilith.
This time Felix didn’t have the luxury of waiting for a cab, and so Lilith transformed into her draconic form and they set sail towards the location where she’d be meeting with Elizabeth.
A café. Just like his mom’s, but better.
Felix could imagine Elizabeth probably chose the familiar spot as a substitute to his mom’s café to re-enact old memories from there, because it had been a bit of a popular spot for high school students and Felix had actually proposed to her twice out of the five times there.
Felix smiled at the nostalgia, reminiscing the old memories as she spotted the café down below. Whatever Elizabeth had planned was already working—haha.
Lilith circled the area for a bit, before picking the ’safest’ location to land, which was on a high-rise building rooftop. Felix knew she just wanted to ride an elevator down but couldn’t prove it.
She could read his memories to some extent, and so Felix knew she was probably eager to try out a few things.
They descended from the rooftop to the last floor where they entered the elevator. Felix was just about to press the button for the down floor, when Lilith suddenly stepped forward and beat her to it with a straight face.
This made Felix chuckle silently as the elevator doors closed and it slowly but steadily began descending.
They arrived at the ground floor and stepped out of the building, which turned out to be an apartment complex. The security personnel gave them quite the stare as he probably couldn’t remember admitting them in, but didn’t try to stop them.
The café was directly opposite the building. Just as Felix arrived before it, at the perfect spot within the café with the perfect lighting where one could stare out the glass barrier onto the beautiful street, was the familiar petite figure of Elizabeth in a pretty black dress, seated at an empty table.
Her black hair was sleeked over one side of her ear, revealing the untamed beauty of her small face, and she seemed so focused on a book she was holding—which reminded Felix of Kelly and her bookworm nature.
Like she’d felt the stare of someone, Elizabeth turned to look out the glass barrier, in the direction of Felix and Lilith, now in her human form.
She looked confused at first at who the hooded figure staring at her was, when Felix raised a hand wave in her direction.
She was quick to catch on and quickly waved back with a charming smile.
Felix sighed and had just taken a step forward towards the café entrance, when the distant screams of people suddenly reached her ears and she turned to look in the direction, only to see people running frantically in her direction, like they were in a desperate escape of something.
Felix’s heart skipped a beat as the potential cause crossed her mind. And just at that moment, the dreaded dungeon outbreak siren began blaring loudly.
