I GLANCED at the intercom that rang on the right side of my table. "Mr. Galvez is on the line..." Farrah said excitedly.
"Okay," I said before pressing the intercom button.
"Sir?" I said in a low voice.
"Meet me at my penthouse now," he ordered to me.
"I have to finish those papers right before then, Nick."
He chuckled sexily, that is why I rolled up my eyes. "I know, you're the boss! So stop reminding me about it, Nick!" I blurt.
"Just finish those papers and come up here and join me later for lunch!" he concluded.
I relax my back against the swivel chair and end up the call. But my back also rose quickly from sitting.
"Oh no! Stupid, Cherry!" I scratched my forehead. I forgot that Rexon and I had a lunch date today.
How can I tell Nicholas that I can't come later? I had trouble kneeling at my desk, not knowing what to do.
I didn’t want to disappoint him so reluctantly I got up and quickly left my office to take the elevator. I hit the last floor to head to the penthouse he says.
I gave a few knocks on the door before turning it open. "Nick?" I sneak a pick at the open door carefully before entering.
"Hey, did you finish your paper works?"
He came out of his room. Water dripping at both sides of his shoulder, I guess he took his shower shortly as he heard my voice echoed.
"Um, not really..." I went inside. Avoid keeping my eyes on his almost naked body.
"I'll go dress up, just enjoy yourself in," he said before I turned away.
As he said, I enjoyed looking around inside his penthouse. I wouldn't be surprised that it's so big. The furniture, the chaise lounge, the chandelier, and everything are so damn perfect.
It's my second time here. The first was when we reached dawn for the final presentation with some staff, but Nicholas just didn't let me go so he put me to sleep here. He's very gentleman when it comes to me.
I just chose to sit in the lounge in front of the rectangular glass table where some of his paper works and his open laptop were.
I tried to peek at his laptop. While busy scrolling on his laptop, a message popped up in his inbox. I furrowed my brows and look at the sender's name.
"Hannah?" I mere whisper.
For as long as I can remember, this is the sister of Nicholas' friend who owns the Resto-bar we went to before. This is also the woman who is always with Rexon at gatherings and special events.
"How was it going?"
I quickly turned to Nicholas who had just left his room. He is now wearing his white long sleeve polo that folds right up to his arm and black silky slack pants and shiny formal shoes.
I suck in a deep breath and slowly release it before I elude. Since I didn't answer, he sat next to me.
"I thought we were having lunch together later? Why is it too early? Did you missed me?" he said with full of confidence.
I smiled at that, "I can't have lunch this morning. I have an important meeting to attend to," I said, averting his serious gaze.
"With whom?" he asks
I lick my lips frantically. I know with this gut who I’m referring to.
"Does he know you work here?" he asked in his more calm voice.
I simply nod, two hands clasped tight on my lap.
He sighed, leaning his back next to me while his left arm was straight behind at my shoulder. He played his fingers on my loose hair there.
"Are you sure, he's taking you seriously, this time?" he whispered sensually at my ears.
I bite down my lips. Why he's so very touchy and clingy today? I accept that he's extra sweet when it comes to me, but something is different now. And it sends a shiver down my spine... Literally.
"We haven't talked about the state of our relationship yet..." I told the truth.
"That was foul!" he exclaimed, gnashing teeth were visible to my ears.
I blow out a frustrated breath. I face him to calm him down but I guess I prefer to lose myself. He looks down at me, and his sexy plump lips move slightly to kiss me.
He takes my face in both of his massive hands and presses his lips to kiss me ferociously. My lips wanted to melt with the intensity of the heat of that kiss. Even my toes were trembling, I couldn't withstand the pressure any longer, so I tried to push him away.
He sighs against my lips, and breaks that kiss, and looking down at me with heated eyes. "He's no good for you," he shakes his head
I stood up from my seat and gasped heavily. I know he's just concerned about me so he can say that. Otherwise, I don't want to give a deeper meaning to what he's doing. I am contented with what we have right now. Friendship. That's all I can give right now.
He watches me for a moment, reading my expressions. "I'm sorry. I just don't want to hurt you again." His voice is now softer and comforting, he even held my hand.
I closed my eyes emphatically, not knowing what to prioritize. To be angry because he kissed me or agreed as he said.
"Nick, you shouldn't have done that."
"Alright, I'm sorry. It won't happen again." He raised his right palm in front of me while tracing the smile.
I let out a sigh before shaking my head and left him the penthouse without saying a word.
My day has never been normal. I was a bit confused and unorganized. I couldn’t do the job properly today. I'm preoccupied with what he just said earlier. What if I get hurt again? I couldn't bear another heartbreak? I don't think I can handle it anymore.
I glance at my wristwatch frustratedly. It's past noon but I still haven't received a call from Rexon. I turned down Farrah's offer when she invited me earlier for lunch. Even Nicholas dropped a call to invite me for lunch, but I refused.
I don't want to think negatively but as time goes by I feel even more frustrated.
I bring my hands up to the back of my head and shut up my eyes firmly and feel the pain. I sighed painfully. Tears gathered at the corner of my eyes.
I told you, you will only get hurt eventually... So why do I indulge in these fantasies? In the end, I'll be the one left disappointed and hurt.
