Vyn arrived just as another block folded in on itself, devoured by a vortex of flame and steel.
She stepped from the ripple of a teleport and hovered above the broken cityscape, her silver eyes narrowing. Her cloak fluttered once, then stilled.
For a long moment, she only watched.
Eron’s voice carried across the chaos, low but heavy. "Run. Hide. It makes no difference. Everything burns until I reach him."
Vyn exhaled slowly. Her breath was calm, her hand rising with ease. Magic stirred around her fingers, faint at first, then swelling until the air itself bent away from her.
She spoke, voice sharp and steady. "Enough."
The word cracked the sector louder than any explosion.
Eron’s head turned. His eyes found her across the broken horizon. Recognition sharpened them instantly.
Her gaze stayed locked. "You’re finished here."
His lips curled, almost a grin, though his face stayed hard. "So Lucian sends family now. How noble of them to waste you."
The ground between them erupted as he snapped his hand down. Spears of stone and fire lanced upward, tearing through the air like missiles.
Vyn didn’t move. She raised her hand higher, and the spears froze mid-flight. The flames died. The stone crumbled to dust before it reached her.
Eron’s grin widened. "Good. Show me."
He slammed his foot into the ground. The earth split wide, a gash miles long, magic pouring out like blood. From the rift, beasts of bone and shadow clawed free, their jaws dripping with fire. Dozens. Hundreds. Their roars shook the sky.
Her fingers curled, her silver eyes glowing brighter. The magic around her spread, weaving into chains of pure light that snapped out in every direction. The first beast lunged, and the chains ripped through its chest before it touched her. The second followed, and the chains coiled around its neck, dragging it to the ground.
She whispered, barely a sound.
The entire swarm shattered in an instant, bodies splitting into fragments of light before dissolving into nothing. The rift itself groaned and sealed, crushed under the weight of her will.
Eron’s brow lifted, though his grin remained. "So that’s the power you’ve been hiding."
Vyn’s cloak rippled as she descended closer, the wind screaming against the invisible field around her. Her voice cut clear. "You’ve destroyed enough. Step down, or I’ll put you down."
He answered with violence.
His arms flared wide, and the air bent inward. A storm of black lightning poured from his body, each bolt heavy enough to turn towers to dust. The city cracked under the force, waves of destruction rolling outward.
Vyn extended her hand again.
The storm met a wall—an invisible dome that shimmered faint silver, humming like a living thing. Every bolt that struck it unraveled, their energy pulled apart, stripped to raw pieces and absorbed into the dome.
Then she clenched her fist.
The dome collapsed inward. The stolen energy condensed into a single point, then fired back in a beam of white light.
Eron crossed his arms, teeth grit. The blast struck him full, hurling him across the sector. He crashed through a mountain ridge, the stone folding like paper, then reemerged in a burst of flame, laughing as blood streaked his jaw.
"Better! Much better!"
He blurred forward, faster than before. His fist swung, coated in black fire.
Vyn raised her palm. His strike stopped an inch from her face. The fire hissed, sputtered, then extinguished, his arm shaking against the invisible grip of her magic.
Her eyes narrowed. "You’re reckless."
Her other hand flicked. A shockwave of compressed force slammed into his chest, launching him back through the ruins.
Eron caught himself mid-flight, boots grinding across the broken ground. He wiped the blood from his mouth, laughing low, savage. "Reckless? No, girl. I’m furious."
He spread his arms again. The entire sector roared. Towers collapsed all at once, buildings crumbling, the earth folding inward. Magic poured like a tidal wave, burning everything in sight.
Vyn lifted both arms, her silver eyes blazing.
The tidal wave froze mid-air. Every flame, every stone, every scream of collapsing magic locked in place like glass suspended in time.
Vyn’s voice rang across the silence. "I told you. Enough."
She pushed her arms outward.
The frozen wave reversed, unraveling in a storm that swallowed itself. The sector’s destruction rewound in seconds—the fires extinguished, the towers rebuilt from rubble, the ground sealing where it had cracked.
Only Eron remained, standing amidst the silence, eyes wide.
For the first time, his grin faltered.
"You..." His voice cracked with disbelief. "...you turned it back."
Vyn hovered above him, cloak snapping in the faint wind, her aura burning bright enough to drown the night. She raised one hand, her tone steady. "Step down."
Eron’s fists shook. His body trembled under her pressure.
But then he laughed again, hoarse and raw. "So this is what XXX rank magic looks like. No wonder they sent you."
He straightened, blood dripping from his lips, eyes burning red. "But I won’t stop. Not until I reach him. Not until your precious Lucian is dust."
Vyn’s gaze hardened. "Then you leave me no choice."
