Kevin approached his dad's bed, where Max lay with his eyes closed and his heart beating steadily.
He stared down at him, at a complete loss for words.
[Don't you have anything to say?]
"What do you expect to say?"
"Do you want me to say that I'm angry about the state he is in right now?"
"That I'm mad that all of this was his fault, to begin with?"
"If he had not offended Mom, none of this would be happening right now."
"I'm mad that no one thought I was old enough to know what was going on between them."
"You want me to fall to my knees crying and confess that there's never been a single day where I didn't think that maybe the cops were right about my mom being dead or turned into a Cannibal or Awakened?"
"Is that what you want from me?"
[...]
"I thought so," Kevin clenched his fist, holding back the tears that were welling up in his eyes.
[It's okay. Let it all out. No one is here to see you cry.]
[My mission from the goddess is to see you achieve your goal of finding your mother.]
[And I'll do whatever it takes to help you achieve this goal.]
Hearing the parasite say those words in his mind put a smile on Kevin's face.
"I guess even a parasite can be worthy of being called a partner."
[Fufu... What is this? Are you finally acknowledging how amazing I am?]
[Will you stop calling me a parasite now?]
"Now, you've ruined the moment. You're a parasite and there's no way I'm gonna stop calling you that."
[What do I have to do to make you stop calling me that?]
"Hmm, If you help me accomplish my mission of ending every single person who kidnapped my mother, then maybe I'll acknowledge the fact that you are not a parasite."
[Then I'll help you succeed.]
Kevin smiled at this as he slowly took one last look at Max. When Kevin recalled his memories of his previous world, he noticed his dad and mom he hated back on Earth were the ones who adopted him here in this world.
In short, Max and Lucy looked a lot like his previous parents back on Earth and the feeling of love he had come to have for his new parents made him regret how he treated his parents back on Earth.
With a determined heart, he made a decision.
He made a promise in his heart to seek vengeance on those who kidnapped his mother and to one day be able to smile again with his dad and mom by his side.
With nothing else to do, he left the hospital and took a cab straight home.
When Kevin descended from the cab, he texted Abel about his whereabouts and Abel immediately replied on WizApp with a thumbs-up emoji.
*Ding dong*
Upon arriving home, Kevin rang the doorbell and the sound of a young woman rushing towards the door could be heard from where he stood.
"Be right there..." She called out.
The young woman opened the door slightly and was surprised to see him.
"Oh! Young master, it's you," She curtsied before adding, "Good afternoon young master. I hope your journey wasn't too stressful?"
Though the maid had been shocked to see Kevin standing at the doorstep, since she had seen his photo a couple of times, she instantly recognised him at first glance.
Meanwhile, the parasite replied in his head before he could say anything.
[Stressful? Of course, it was!! We were almost killed by a Cannibal, we were interrogated at a station and we spent almost an hour talking with your uncle. It has been a long day.]
'She didn't ask you, so keep shut.'
[Fine]
Though the parasite sounded like a young lady, Kevin noticed that she acted like a girl two years younger than him.
Pushing the thought aside, Kevin still couldn't understand why this maid was welcoming him home.
In short, he had never seen her before.
Unbeknownst to Kevin, while he was thinking about why a new maid was welcoming him home, he had unknowingly been staring a bit too much in a certain direction.
[Yo! Snap out of it before you stare daggers at her boobs.]
"Uh?" Kevin immediately regained his senses. He noticed that the maid could feel his gaze so he cleared his throat before saying.
"Um, you are new here, right? Where's Mary?"
"Yes, young master. Mary has been relieved of her duties for quite some time now. If you don't mind, would you allow me to carry your bag?" The maid stretched her arm to collect his luggage but Kevin took a step backwards.
"Oh, that wouldn't be necessary. I can manage on my own."
It was bad enough that the maid now saw him as a horny, perverted, young master who couldn't control his lustful gaze.
The least he could do now was to show her that he wasn't a lazy young man as well.
It wasn't his intention to stare at her cleavage but even Kevin had to admit, they were pretty big even though her maid outfit wasn't a tight-fitted dress.
Her fishnet stockings were also on full display.
'Oh, that reminds me. I do not know her name.'
"And you are?" He asked.
"Ah!!" The maid suddenly realized that she was yet to introduce herself. She curtsied once again and said.
"Please forgive me, young master. I'm Dahlia and I am the maid who is currently looking after the house in place of Miss Mary."
"I see," Kevin nodded in acknowledgement.
Mary had been an old lady even before he got accepted into the university.
A few times, a younger Kevin at the time had helped Mary do the house chores. Even though Mary had pleaded with him to allow her to do her job, Kevin hadn't listened and would happily assist her in whatever way he could instead.
Eventually, Mary gave in and began to accept his company. She saw Kevin as a young master that was genuinely kind and cheerful, a rare trait that couldn't be found elsewhere. Especially when considering her previous employers.
"Thank you, Dahlia. I'll be going to my room now. Is anyone else inside?"
Since the chief matron had told Kevin that his stepmother had just visited his dad, she might be at home.
However, since no one else came to the door even though he and Dahlia had spent more than five minutes talking, then it meant that she might not be home yet.
Nevertheless, Kevin had to ask, just to be sure.
