The cemetery lay shrouded in a dense, unnatural fog, casting an eerie stillness over the cracked tombstones and wilted flowers. Dead trees, twisted and gnarled, reached up to the cloudy night sky like skeletal hands clawing their way out of the earth. A cold wind whistled through the ruins, carrying with it the faint scent of rot and earth, and the ground felt damp and uneven beneath their feet.
As Leon and Luna moved deeper into the graveyard, the atmosphere grew heavier. Wisps of dark mana lingered in the air, a reminder of the corrupted magic that held the undead in their restless state. Suddenly, low growls and hisses echoed from nearby graves, and skeletal hands began clawing their way out of the soil, dragging dirt-covered, decaying figures into the open.
Leon gripped his sword tightly, and the weapon glinted with a holy light, a stark contrast to the darkened world around him. Beside him, Luna readied her blessed dagger, her eyes narrowed and focused.
With a battle cry, Leon lunged at the nearest skeleton, his sword slicing through it cleanly, holy energy causing the bones to disintegrate on contact. Luna darted forward, her movements swift as she plunged her dagger into the chest of an approaching zombie. The creature shuddered, and smoke rose from its flesh as the holy blessing burned through it.
As they continued to fight, the undead came in waves, crawling out of graves, rising from tombs, and staggering from the shadows. Each slash and stab from their blessed weapons reduced the undead to ashes, but the horde seemed endless, driven by an unseen power.
"It seems the boss now knows we're here, so he's attacking us by sending his minions," Leon observed, eyeing the swarm of undead closing in on them.
"Isn't that a good thing?" Luna smirked, fending off another zombie. "He'll keep sending them, and we can level up by taking down each wave, gathering resources as we go. Plus, if he's just sending minions, it likely means he can't leave his place."
Leon shook his head, slicing through a skeleton with a swift, holy-imbued strike. "If he's only sending minions, it means he's either more clever than we thought or he's preoccupied—something might be holding him back from confronting us directly."
Luna's smile faded as she glanced around, noticing the growing strength of the undead surrounding them. "You're saying he's planning something, or maybe guarding something more important?"
Leon nodded grimly. "Exactly. We need to stay on guard. If he's bound to something, it could be the key to his power...or our death if we're not careful."
They exchanged a determined look, bracing for the next wave. The chilling groans of the undead seemed to rise in pitch, as if they too sensed something darker lurking deeper within the cemetery.
As Leon and Luna stood their ground, the first wave of undead crashed upon them. Skeletons, their bony fingers grasping rusted swords and shields, rushed from the shadows. With a swift motion, Leon swung his sword, the Blessed Steel Sword, slicing through their brittle frames with ease. Each blow echoed with the faintest whisper of death, leaving behind nothing but splintered bones.
Behind the skeletons, zombies lurched forward, their decaying bodies dragging along the ground. Their hollow eyes glowed with an eerie light as they groaned, attempting to overwhelm the duo with sheer numbers. Luna moved with agility, brandishing the Holy Dagger as she struck at the nearest zombie, the blade shining brightly as it pierced its rotting flesh.
"These guys are slower than I expected!" she laughed, but her voice held an edge of caution.
Suddenly, a loud crack reverberated through the cemetery. From the darkness, bursting zombies emerged, their bodies swollen and grotesque. They exploded on contact, showering Leon and Luna with putrid, green ichor. "Watch out!" Leon yelled, raising his arm to summon his Aether shield himself from the foul spray. "They're like bombs!"
Luna ducked and rolled, narrowly avoiding the remnants of a bursting zombie, which sent a group of skeletons nearby flying into pieces. "This is getting messy!" she exclaimed, her movements fluid as she darted around the chaos.
The next wave surged forth—vampiric soldiers, their eyes glowing red, brandishing enchanted blades. They were faster, and their strikes were sharper. Leon found himself momentarily overwhelmed, parrying a blow just in time. "These ones are tougher!" he grunted, sweat beading on his forehead as he fought them off.
Luna shouted encouragement, "Just like the skeletons! Use the holy power!" She lunged at one of the soldiers, driving her dagger into its heart. The creature shrieked in pain, crumbling to the ground as the holy energy radiated from the blade.
Just then, another wave of enemies flooded the cemetery—spitting zombies, their rotting mouths foaming with bile and venom. They hurled their grotesque projectiles, attempting to blind Leon and Luna. Leon ducked to the side, barely avoiding a glob of putrid goo that splattered against a nearby grave marker. "Ugh, that's disgusting!" he shouted, wiping his face as he regained his footing.
With each wave, the creatures grew more diverse and dangerous. Undead hounds leapt into the fray, snapping at their heels with feral instincts. Leon's heart raced as he slashed at them, his strikes connecting just before they could sink their teeth into his flesh.
"Luna! Focus on the biggest threats!" he urged, his voice steady amid the chaos. "We can't let them overwhelm us!"
"Fuck, just how many are there?" she yelled in frustration, having been fighting for over half an hour continuously without any sign of an end.
"This is normal in these wave-type attacks. We have to push our way like an arrowhead," Leon said as he readied his sword.
Luna nodded, her expression resolute. "Let's take down their leader, and these minions will fall apart!" With renewed determination, they fought side by side, carving a path through the oncoming hordes, each undead defeated fueling their resolve to confront the true menace lurking in the cemetery's depths.
