Chapter 167 Under His Control
Veronica was surprised by what her mother just revealed. "Are you saying the truth? Did you really do that? "
"If you don't believe it, you can go to the school and ask the teacher who sends them food and asks them to take care of them. You may also verify this with John Cage about it, for he is a child and he won't lie."
Veronica felt a pang of guilt within her.
She didn't know about this at all.
"Of course, they were born from you, so how could I not care? I just didn't want to say it. "
"It's not a bad thing. Why don't you want to say it?"
"I'm not an affectionate person and I can only be confident when I ask to handle foster care from you. Now I know you don't want to say anything, but can you guarantee me that Nick will never find out about them? If he finds out, who knows what he will do to the children out of anger? John already has been treated so coldly by him!" Chloe already grew scared just thinking about the possibility of it.
Veronica was silent for a short while, processing what her mother just said. She felt that even if Nick come to know one day about the truth, he would not ever lay hands on his children. After all, real men do not hurt children. The only thing she was afraid of was that he'll know that he was the father of her baby, which would certainly make Nick furious and take the baby away from her.
Chloe tapped Veronica's hand, instantly regaining her senses from her contemplation.
"Come on, get in the car, and don't be late for work," Chloe said.
Veronica was pulled into the car by her mother.
After getting on the bus, Chloe's car finally drove away from the neighborhood.
Veronica wanted to say that she would not take a bus, but if she did, she would seem like a very ruthless daughter.
No matter what happened, Chloe was her mother after all, and she proved herself that she was concerned about Peter. That's why she couldn't bear to continue being mean to her.
Presumably, Nick came a bit late into their lives.
But why did Chloe marry into the Cage family?
"Veronica, tell your mother the truth. What is your relationship with Nick now?" Chloe confronted her daughter eagerly.
"It doesn't matter," Veronica's eyes wistfully glistened and looked out of the window.
"He's not interested in you, is he?" Chloe asked tentatively.
"Of course not. And even if we were in contact, it was only because of you." Veronica said faintly.
Chloe wondered if Veronica was really not interested in being captured by Eden. Nick was so angry about that incident that he would break his own uncle's leg. But if it were actually because of Veronica, normally, he would have gravely hurt Veronica, instead of saving her.
Chloe became a little skeptical of her own daughter.
However, this matter had not been mentioned for the time being.
Veronica won't tell her anything if she truly wanted to hide it.
Veronica was so beautiful that few men will refuse her.
"Since you don't want to let me foster the children, you have to do everything you can to keep it a secret and not let Nick know about this. If he finds out, then you will say that they are Isabella's children, and they have nothing to do with you." Chloe ordered her.
Veronica glanced at her, understood the meaning of the words, did not retort, and promised, "I will." She understood finally why her mother was so concerned.
If there would be such a day, maybe she would really have to hide the truth like that.
In all honesty, she was a little scared that Nick was shrewd enough to know the truth. When she saw the six little ones around her, would he doubt it?
She could only take it one step at a time.
The car went to the TV station and Veronica got up to get out of the car.
Suddenly, she was held back by Chloe, "Veronica, do you still hate your mom?"
"Not anymore."
"But you don't want me to come to your dinner. Your mother just wants to have a home-cooked meal with you."
Veronica hesitated for a moment and said, "Okay, if you really want to eat, come out and eat with us some time. But I'm not going to the Cage family."
"You are not so sure if you will soon belong to the Cage family since you're now involved with Nick. Just be careful of him."
What she didn't know was that Nick showed up at the birthday party, when she didn't have a tracker. But now she's completely under the control of Nick.
