Short of announcing the party during the announcements section of the assembly, Shewa was doing a good job announcing the first Senior’s party of the school year and soon it became what everyone was talking about. Of course, it was to take place in the seniors’ quarters which meant that no juniors were invited, just us Class 3 seniors.
Siobhan already chose the theme for the party: Hot or Not Bikini Splash!
I guess I should have expected that theme. Everyone knows the best way to show off your assets is to wear a bikini or bath suit, I suppose that’s a mating call for us humans or something. I’m just kidding but that’s what Siobhan chose and her party announcement was causing a rave. The excitement in Class 3 was charged. Eva wanted to get a new bikini and she knew just which store to order from, Jon wanted to be in charge of the music, someone was talking about the drinks for the party. I couldn’t catch a break because Siobhan had graciously announced me as the party planner and everyone in Senior Class 3 wanted to talk to the Head girl who was planning the first party for the term and her best friend who was throwing the party.
Even Andre had somehow cornered me in the locker section. I was just taking out my Biology notes for class when his shadow fell over me.
I turned back. “What is it now?”
“This party, I’m hoping it’s an attempt to get Siobhan and me together?”
“Duh…”
“And you planned it?”
Siobhan would kill me if I let slip to him that that was the essence of the party. So I shrugged and said, “It’s her party but I opted to be the planner,” I lied. “I figured I can include some games that will get you guys together. You can make your moves then.”
I started to move past him but he caught me back. I quickly glanced around the hall hoping no one was watching, I would hate to be labeled among those girls eager to throw themselves at him.
He gave me that look that reminded me of the first time I met him at the beach before he opened his mouth to talk about what women's nipples do. “You are not so bad, Bianca.”
Is it bad that I wanted to kiss those lips that just spoke my name? I mean he’s annoying yes but I wouldn’t mind shutting him up with my lips honestly.
I jerked my hand away before I gave in to that stupid desire. “Yeah, whatever.”
I moved to go again when he said, “But you remember what I said last night, right? Don’t try to keep me away from her.”
“Ohh I’m scared,” I said sarcastically. “I got that Rios, I’m not going to keep you guys apart, I’ll just let my friend see what a douchebag you are by herself.”
He laughed covering the distance between us with quick strides. “I’m a douchebag? That’s not what everyone here thinks about me.”
“Yeah because they don’t know you.”
He cocked a brow. I recognized the teasing look in those dark eyes. “And you know me?”
I forced a smile. “Well I know you’re a pig and you don’t respect girls so yeah I do know you. Now if you’ll excuse me I have a class to be in. Thanks.”
But as I walked down the hall toward the biology lab I heard him laugh. “Don’t you think you’re jealous?”
I turned back to stare incredulously at him. The blatant assumption from his arrogant mouth.
He raised his hands in mock surrender. “I’m just saying. You’re the only girl I’m not flirting with and I’m not trying to date you like I’m trying to date your best friend so don’t you think you’re jealous?”
“IN YOUR DREAMS!” I yelled. “In your fucking dreams.”
Suddenly the door swung open and the biology teacher a tall, hawkish man with a mop of brown hair, Mr. Holden, stood by the door with his brows raised at my language.
“Miss Davis.”
I wanted to die. God, why won’t Andre just let me be?! Behind me, I heard his snicker as he moved past me and entered the laboratory.
“I’m sorry Mr. Holden I was eh…it’s a line from a song.”
“Well mind the languages of your songs next time.”
I apologized and joined the rest of the class in the laboratory doing my best to ignore Andre and his smug smile. Thankfully I was paired up with his twin sister, Carla, a tall beauty completely opposite of her brother. She smiled shyly and made some space on the slab for me to put my book.
“You look angry.”
It was the first time I heard her voice and it shocked me how deep and firm it sounded. She tipped her hand toward me and I did the same to shake her hand.
“Yeah, a little problem.”
She giggled. “And that problem is my brother I’m sure.”
I glanced at her. Her smile was so contagious. “Well, how did you guess?” Then it occurred to me. Of course, we had entered the class together and he was still smiling like a cat who just had the cream to lick.
“Andre is annoying,” she laughed. “I’m surprised I’m the only girl who knows that. Then again I’m his sister so I guess it’s only fair that I see him for who he is. That’s how siblings are, we see the true characters of each other.” She suddenly looked shy as she caught herself talking too much already. “I-I’m sure you know all about that though.”
I reached out a hand to her to get her to continue talking. From what little I know of her between yesterday and today, she was the most ignored of the twins because Andre seemed to steal the spotlight. “Unfortunately, I don’t have siblings so I don’t know much about what siblings are like.”
Her eyes widened and her smile turned grateful. “But I thought you and Siobhan…I mean you guys look alike and you are very close from what I’ve seen.”
I couldn’t help but snort. “Me and Siobhan? Nah, we are just best friends. We’ve been friends since we were kids.”
“Oh…”
“So tell me, what other things do siblings do…”
“Miss Davis,” Mr. Holden warned. “You seem to be very troublesome today.”
“Carla and I were just discussing the class, sir,” I lied. He barely ate up the lie but turned away to pick up his notes so that the class would begin.
“Sorry,” Carla apologized. “It’s my fault.”
“Oh no, it’s not,” I whispered back. With that brief conversation with her, I already forgot about Andre and his nonsense threat. "My name is Bianca Davis."
"Everyone knows who you are," she giggled. "Carla Rios but I'm sure you already know."
Oh yeah. Just formalities. “We can keep talking after class.”
She smiled gratefully and I returned the smile, grateful that I was able to make friends with the less problematic of the twins.
