Titus Zane’s phone rang over and over again. Looking at the incessantly blinking screen and the familiar sequence of numbers, Titus braced himself and turned off the phone outright.
Logan Ray was so dependent on her, and besides, she didn’t feel at ease leaving him alone in the hotel.
Seeing that the sky outside the window had turned completely dark, Titus knew that going back now or tomorrow would yield the same result. So she just turned off her phone, deciding to play ostrich for once.
Without the annoying ring of the cell phone, the world seemed much quieter. Titus gently removed Logan Ray’s hands from around her legs, slipped off her trench coat, lay down beside Logan Ray, lifted the quilt, and covered them both...
In the villa’s hall, Olivia Zane held the phone, her expression innocent as she faced Nathan Moore.
"Sister has turned off her phone."
His handsome brows uncontrollably twitched, the clear bite marks on his face visible, as he demanded sharply.
"How do you people do your work! Don’t you know to ask where she’s going when she goes out? What she’s doing! When she will be back!"
This was the first time Nathan Moore had lost his temper with the housemaids.
Aunt Liu and Chun Ya stood side by side, heads bowed, looking somewhat trembling.
Especially Aunt Liu, she felt very wronged.
No matter how poorly Madam Zane behaved, she was still the mistress; where she went and what she did was none of the business of a housemaid like her.
Clearly, with Madam Zane’s "disappearance", Mr. Moore was taking out his anger on them. Even though they felt wronged in their hearts, they didn’t dare to speak up and could only bow their heads and take the scolding.
"Nathan, don’t get angry at them. Maybe sister just went out to clear her mind and will be back soon," Olivia Zane put down the receiver, glided over in her wheelchair to Nathan Moore, tugged at his shirt, and Nathan Moore lowered his gaze, responding lightly to Olivia Zane’s clever puppy-dog eyes with a hum, and then instructed Aunt Liu and Chun Ya.
"You can go do your work."
"Yes, sir," replied Aunt Liu and Chun Ya before quickly turning back to the kitchen.
"Nathan, we haven’t had dinner yet." Seeing Nathan Moore standing in the distance unmoving, Olivia Zane reminded him.
"Let’s eat now." Nathan Moore pushed Olivia Zane towards the dining room.
At the dinner table, Nathan Moore continued to eat his dinner in silence as usual, but his handsome face was intense and it was obvious that his mind was elsewhere.
Several times Olivia Zane spoke to him and he didn’t respond.
Olivia Zane’s eyes flickered, and she smiled, helping Nathan Moore to pick up a piece of fish belly.
"Nathan, don’t worry, sister isn’t a child, she won’t get lost. She’ll be back later, otherwise where would she stay."
Olivia Zane’s words, meant to be comforting, actually poured oil on the fire, especially seeing Nathan Moore’s face turn gloomy.
Nathan Moore looked up at her, absent his usual tenderness.
"I’m not worried, if she died out there, it’d have nothing to do with me."
"What are you talking about!"
Olivia Zane pretended to be displeased and scolded, "Such a big person, yet acting like a child. Say you’re not worried? You’re so preoccupied even eating dinner."
Nathan Moore glanced at Olivia Zane indifferently, without arguing, and continued to eat silently.
Olivia Zane noticed that with Titus not back, Nathan Moore had not only become silent but his appetite had decreased too; he only ate half a bowl of rice, and didn’t finish a small bowl of soup before putting down his chopsticks.
He also didn’t sit at the table waiting for Olivia Zane to finish eating, but instead got up and went to the hall, standing hands on hips in front of the floor-to-ceiling window.
Olivia Zane too put down her chopsticks, glided back to the hall in her wheelchair, picked up the landline, and dialed out.
"Mom, has sister come back... Didn’t she call you?... Oh, I see, goodbye, mom."
After hanging up the phone, Olivia Zane glided over to Nathan Moore.
