Titus Zane stood up and returned to sit on the bench, glaring at Jon before lighting up a cigarette, complaining, "You should’ve told me earlier."
If Nathan Moore heard her prohibiting Jon from sleeping in the bed, who knows what he would think.
"I thought you wouldn’t mind," Jon said with his sea-green eyes fixed on Titus, emotions swirling within them, hard to understand.
Titus’s motion of lighting the cigarette paused again, the lighter already ignited, she looked at Jon with slightly parted lips, revealing her puzzlement.
Suddenly, with a gasp, she threw the lighter in her hand, and the metal lighter made a considerable noise as it hit the floor.
Next door, Nathan Moore’s action of getting into bed halted due to Titus’s outcry, his hand holding the blanket corner tightened unconsciously, his handsome face grew serious, and his ears perked up alertly, seemingly listening for something.
"Nathan, what’s wrong?" Olivia Zane asked in confusion, tilting her face up, her eyes like cut water-gems gazing at Nathan Moore.
"It’s nothing," Nathan Moore replied indifferently, pulling back the blanket and lying down on the bed.
Jon crouched down, picking up the lighter, and after standing up he let out a helpless sigh, "Carry, why are you acting like a child, you can’t even handle this small matter."
Although Jon said this, he still extended his hand, long and fair fingers sparking the lighter, holding it in front of Titus.
Titus was momentarily lost in thought; that night, Nathan Moore also lit a cigarette for her.
"Carry? You’re about to burn my hand."
Jon reminded her, as the metal lighter, if lit for too long, would get hot enough to burn the hand.
"Thank you," Titus leaned slightly closer and said these two words politely.
Jon capped the lighter and smiled, although he didn’t say anything, he seemed to be in a good mood.
He placed the metal lighter on the small round table and turned to walk towards the bathroom.
Watching Jon’s comically retreating figure, Titus took a drag of her cigarette, the smoke swirling up and blurring her vision when exhaled, her eyes slightly narrowed, her expression appeared hazy.
Next door, after hearing Titus’s outcry, Nathan Moore didn’t hear any other noise.
Lying in bed, he felt uneasy, especially thinking about his woman sharing a bed with another man.
He tossed off the blanket and sat up.
"Nathan, what’s wrong?" Olivia Zane looked at him puzzled.
"Are you hungry? I can go make you some late-night snacks," Nathan Moore asked with concern.
Olivia Zane shook her head, "I’m not hungry."
"Then are you thirsty? I can get you a glass of water."
"Not thirsty," Olivia Zane shook her head again, pointing towards the cabinet in front of the bed, "I have limited mobility, so we installed a bell system in the bedroom. If I need anything, I just have to ring it, and the housemaid will appear immediately."
Thus, even if she was hungry or thirsty, there was no need for Nathan Moore to personally tend to it.
"Oh, I was careless," Nathan Moore could only lay back down again, there was a similar alarm system in his own home, but it’s been a long time since Olivia Zane stayed there, so he had forgotten.
Five minutes later, Nathan Moore got up again.
This time, before Olivia Zane could ask, he started explaining.
"I’m a bit hungry, going downstairs to make some snacks," he said.
"Let the housemaid make and bring it up," she suggested.
"No, it’s quite late, I’ll do it myself," Nathan Moore said and got out of bed, pulled on his slippers, and walked towards the door.
Upon reaching the bedroom door, Nathan Moore unconsciously lightened his steps, tiptoeing to the door of Titus’s room, leaned his body to the side, and pressed his ear against the door panel.
Inside was complete silence, nothing could be heard.
His large hand covered the doorknob, gently turning it, but the door was locked from the inside, it wouldn’t open.
At this time, inside Titus’s room, Jon put his index finger to his lips and lightly tugged at Titus, then pointed towards the door, Titus understood and turned to look at the door.
The lock on the door twitched lightly, as if someone was outside.
