Everyone held their breath, including Titus Zane, for the unusually tense atmosphere.
Under everyone’s gaze, they saw Nathan Moore put down his chopsticks, gracefully take a napkin to wipe the corner of his mouth, and with a smile that was not quite a smile, looked at no one in particular, and said slowly and deliberately.
"Uncle, everyone likes the fine things in life, and that includes beautiful women."
Nathan Moore continued after placing the napkin back on the table, "In today’s society, a successful man’s must-haves are luxury cars and beautiful women. I believe uncle is well aware of that. It’s natural to admire beauty, and all I did was state a truth. Why would you misinterpret it as a lack of decorum?"
Nathan Moore’s words angered Julian Zane so much he was almost breathless. Although it was a truly outrageous statement, Nathan had managed to articulate it in such a refined and unhurried manner.
Being able to say such outrageous things with such confidence in front of his father-in-law, it is believed there’s no sei to it.
Julian Zane’s breathing became rapid, just as he was about to slam his hand on the table, Ariana Evans subtly alerted him.
Beneath the table, Ariana Evans gently touched her husband’s leg, and when Julian Zane looked at her, she subtly shook her head. Before he could react, she quickly smiled and smoothed things over.
Lowering her gaze, she added a piece of Chinese broccoli to her bowl and said with a smile.
"Nathan, I didn’t expect someone as cultured as you to have such progressive thoughts. If not for you mentioning it, I wouldn’t have known about these current social trends."
Since someone was willing to provide a way out, Nathan Moore was happy to go along with it.
He picked up the napkin again, wiped the corner of his mouth, and with a smile said.
"Auntie, I was just joking earlier, please don’t take it seriously, otherwise Lily will not let me off the hook when I get home."
Olivia Zane was initially angry, but hearing Nathan say this, she was taken aback and joy quickly appeared on her face.
Did Nathan saying "when I get home" mean he would take her back with him after dinner?
Overjoyed, Olivia Zane spoke up to defend Nathan Moore.
"Dad, Mom, don’t listen to Nathan; he just likes to talk nonsense. He always likes to tease me at home."
Ariana Evans looked up with a smile, not saying anything.
As adults, everyone is clear about whether it’s a joke or not.
Sitting there, Titus Zane already found the situation awkward, and with this commotion, it became even harder to stay seated.
Just as he was about to excuse himself, Nathan Moore stood up before him, saying.
"Sorry, I came in a rush, and there are a ton of documents waiting for me at the company, I must take my leave first."
After speaking, without giving anyone a chance to react, he pulled out his chair and turned to walk toward the hall.
Olivia Zane called out in a panic, and as she took off her coat, Nathan Moore turned his head to look at her with a slight curl of his lips, "Behave, I’m going back to the office to deal with work. I’ll come pick you up another day."
After saying goodbye to Julian Zane and his wife, Nathan Moore strode towards the villa’s main door.
"Mhm!" Watching Nathan Moore’s figure disappear outside the door, Olivia Zane angrily threw down her bowl and chopsticks.
Titus Zane had also intended to get up and leave, but to avoid suspicion, he had no choice but to continue enduring the discomfort.
Julian Zane slammed his chopsticks down hard on the table and looked at Olivia Zane and roared furiously.
"Look at this, this is the man you pine for all day long! So arrogant, he doesn’t even consider me or your mother!"
Olivia Zane lowered her gaze, her hands resting on the table, silently shedding tears.
"Julian, why are you taking your anger out on the child!" Ariana Evans disagreed and reprimanded him, stood up, moved behind her younger daughter, pushing the wheelchair in a different direction, and headed towards the hall.
"Lily, your dad was just speaking in a fit of anger, don’t take it to heart. Nathan is busy running such a big company. Wait until he’s less busy, and he will come back to pick you up..."
"Just keep deceiving her!"
Julian Zane exhaled frustratedly, only to be shouted back by Ariana Evans.
Julian Zane did indeed shut up and didn’t say anything more, stood up, and walked towards the staircase with his hands behind his back.
He looked very angry, though.
Titus Zane, already feeling uneasy, was instantly stunned. He had never seen his mother look so fierce before in his memory.
