“Ruchee!” My conversation with Thraia was interrupted by a loud bang coming from the front door.
I saw Reign run closer to the sofa I was sitting on. I also felt Thraia’s sudden stand as she was sitting next to me. When Reign got close to where I was, he was out of breath. I feel like he ran up the giant stairs to reach his house.
What’s his problem?
I was about to ask when Reign suddenly put his hand on my forehead and moved it to my neck as if to see if I had a fever. Because of what he did, I held my breath. His face was too close to my nose and mouth. I could see how Reign’s jaw went up and down because of the hard breathing he was impulsing to himself.
When he checked that I had no fever, he stood up and turned around. I thought he would leave, but he just took a deep breath before returning his face to me. His blue eyes stared with concern.
“Why are you here?” I asked when Reign just kept his eyes on me, “I thought you and the old Garry have to discuss something important,” I added when I remembered his appointment at the village. He said that he visited them because there’s a matter he wants to talk about with the older man.
“It’s already done. I was distraught when my men said that you were not feeling well, so I rush back here,” I was suddenly embarrassed by what he said, “What happened?” He suddenly knelt in front of me and immediately grabbed my hands resting on my legs.
My heart beat faster. I don’t know what I will react to Reign’s action. Why is he doing this? I wanted to ask Reign how he felt about me because even I was confused.
I don’t know what to answer. So I looked at Thraia, who was standing beside us. Her head was bent down, but when she felt me looking at her, she raised her head and gave me a sweet smile. Thraia seemed pleased with what’s happening between Reign and me. Seriously?
I mouthed to her to tell Reign about Sharmon since his master asked about the matter that was bothering me. Thraia’s smile faded after she gets my words. She suddenly shrugged her head.
I don’t know why Thraia won’t want Reign to know about the threat I got from Sharmon but maybe, keeping this to ourselves will be better. Before Reign arrived earlier, Thraia said that perhaps something terrible would happen to Sharmon if I told Reign what happened between us.
It would be better for me to hide it first until there is no proof. Thraia also added that Reign would believe me more than Sharmon. I don’t know. But I’m sure Reign will side with Sharmon because she’s one of the people on this island, and I’m just a lowly outsider.

After the day that I received a word from Sharmon, my mind was restless, and it’s been the second week since that day. Nothing strange happened after that. I want to get those thoughts out of my mind, but it keeps on entering.
What I learned from Thraia was surprising. I know that love can drive people into madness, but in Sharmon’s case, it’s just a one-sided love.
She’s the only one chasing Reign, I guess. Yes, Sharmon is a beautiful woman. Many men will be obsessed with her, but nothing will happen if she acts like this without changing herself.
I know nothing about love, but I read some articles about it. My mortal hobby is reading. I like comprehending and gaining knowledge from other experiences.
“Everything is fine, Miss Ruchee,” I came back to reality and looked at the woman fixing my face. We were in the dressing room with the other maids. I don’t know where Thraia is. Maybe, she’s taking care of something else.
I turned my gaze at the mirror, observing my reflection. I was wearing a light blue off-shoulder A-line star evening dress. This dress is similar to what Crie did the last time that became a waste, but this one I’m wearing is longer than before. As usual, Crie did this again.
I sigh,” Thank you so much,” I said to show my gratitude; even if Reign ordered them to fix me and made me look presentable, I want to appreciate their work. I still don’t have her name. She’s also the one who set me the last time.
Two days ago, Reign announced that we would have a ball on this island inside his vast house. Like last time, I don’t have any idea about what kind of ball or why it needs my presence.
Is this why Reign bought me at the auction or made his muse in all his appointments? For no apparent reason, I felt annoyed.
I bit my lower lip. I have no right to complain. As I said, Reign bought me, so I have no choice but to follow all his wishes. I’m under his grasp that I can’t except using my power.
I don’t know what’s going on downstairs, since the ball reception is on the house’s first floor. Reign’s home is only up to the second floor, but it looks like it has four feet because of the considerable height of each floor.
I looked in the mirror again. The woman who was fixing me had already left. She was like a flash; I didn’t even notice. I stared at my reflection again.
“Is this me?” I asked myself.
“No doubt, you are looking at the beautiful woman in the world,” my gaze turns in the door’s direction where the voice came. My heart furiously beat as I saw Reign leaning at the jamb while he stuck his right hand inside his pants side pocket.
Reign was wearing a light blue three-piece suit. It was apparent that what he was wearing partnered with me. I also notice that Crie’s handmade clothes were colored blue. I think he was referring to the theme to Reign’s eyes.
I stood up carefully because the fabric I was wearing was long. I was having a hard time because I was not used to wearing this kind of thing. Reign also walked closer to me.
“You looked very stunningly gorgeous, my woman,” Reign said again when he reached me as his blue eyes stared intensely. I’m not sure, but when I stared back at him, I feel a sense of lust. Maybe, it’s just my hallucination.
I didn’t bother to answer him. Reign immediately took my right hand and anchored it in his arms, “Let’s go,” he said without hearing my words. I can’t cope with the right thing to say because being complimented by this man beside me is enough to make my tongue frozen.
Reign guided me until we were out of the dressing room and reached the stairs going to the first floor. From our location, I already can hear chatter coming from different people, or should I say, Reign’s guests, to this ongoing ball.
I took a deep breath before stepping my feet downstairs. We were just in the middle of the giant staircase when my body stopped on its own, “What’s the matter?” Reign asked. Even if I didn’t turn to look at him, I could feel that he was worried because of his tone, “Is something hurt?” I did not answer and remained silent by his side.
My knees began to tremble. My chest throbbed harder, and my breath got heavier. I feel like running out of air in my body along with floating brain on the feeling of nervousness.
I was able to turn to Reign, and I was right; his worried blue eyes were staring at me. Why is every time I act weird, he worries? I returned my eyes in front. I can’t stop the trembling of my knees when the people’s eyes downstairs were focused on both me and Reign.
Different kinds of people are present. According to their posture, suits, gowns, and body itself, they were a high-class type of person that suits Reign’s treasure. Once I step out of this monumental stair, I’ll be around with luxurious accessories and faces.
I never thought I would be around someone like them. I don’t fit in, and I find this event intimidating.
