The moment Roy opened his eyes, his nose was filled with the sweet scent of his beautiful mate. He felt a weight on his chest and around his waist, but didn’t bother moving so as not to wake her up. He gently stroked her hair, letting her strawberry scent please him.
“Rather than thank you for saving my life, I yelled at you. I’m… I'm sorry.” Kimberly murmured, making Roy stop what he was doing.
How didn’t he notice that she was already awake? That wasn’t even what surprised him. The fact that Kimberly was apologizing was what shocked him. To say he was speechless was an understatement, he was stunned.
“I-“
“You don’t have to say anything.” she cut him off before he could say anything.
“I said so many hurtful things to you, which I now regret.” she continued.
“I understand you felt betrayed. I wanted to tell you everything, but…”
“You were scared I’d reject you.” she softly said, completing his sentence like she was reading his thoughts, while her fingers traced the tattoos on his arm.
Her feather like touches were causing tingly sensations all over his body, making his wolf excited. She slowly lifted her head from his chest. Her gorgeous brown eyes now staring at his boring grey ones.
“Are you mad at me for that?” she quietly asked, her eyes filled with tears.
Why was she scared?
“It’s okay. I’m not mad at you. You had every right to be upset.” he whispered in reply.
“Roy, I…” she was slowly leaning in, her lips now hovering over his, making him shiver with excitement.
“I want to be with you.” she confessed in a whisper, to his utmost surprise.
A moment after she said that, her lips were on his, surprising him even more. The kiss started slow, her lips caressing his. Roy recovered from his state of shock and eagerly responded to the kiss. He pulled her closer, his arms wrapped around her as she straddled him. His hands travelled down her spine, stopping at her lower back.
His wolf howled inside, completely elated to finally have its mate. He swiped his tongue across her lower lip and heard her release a low moan, giving him entrance into her hot mouth, exploring it even more. He brought his hand to her chin, bringing her closer as he tasted every inch of her mouth.
He could feel himself harden as he was soon overpowered by desire. He can’t let that happen now, she wouldn’t want it, even though he craves it. He doesn’t want to take advantage of her, so he reluctantly pulled away from the kiss.
“Are you sure about this?” he breathed, their foreheads against each other.
She nodded with her eyes still closed.
“Thank you.” he said, placing a kiss on her temple, before pulling her to himself.

Alan woke up the next morning with only one thing on his mind, and that was talking to Hugh. He had called Hugh’s beta the previous night to let him know that he wanted to see Hugh and without hesitation, an appointment was fixed.
He was about climbing into his car when he heard his son calling out to him. He turned towards the direction of the voice and spotted Elijah and Roy approaching him.
“Dad, you can’t go there alone.”
He took a deep breath, already regretting why he told his mate he was going to see Hugh. He knew this was her doing.
“Uncle, Elijah is right. You need someone to accompany you… I don’t trust Hugh.” Roy added.
“You two are over exaggerating the whole thing , you know that, right? I won’t advice that any of you accompany me cos as you know, I'm not going there with good news.” Alan explained, hoping they would understand.
“All the more reason why you need someone there with you.” Roy countered.
“Hugh won’t hurt me, even if he feels the need to.”
“Are you sure about this, dad?”
“Of course, son. Don’t worry about me.” he said, giving Elijah’s shoulder a light squeeze.
“Just be careful, uncle.” Roy said, giving Alan a hug.
“We’ll talk when you get back.” he further said through the mind link.
Alan nodded and got into his car.

“What the hell are you saying?! I perceived her scent. It was undoubtedly her.” Hugh angrily said.
“That’s what I don’t understand, cos as far as I know, she isn’t in the pack.” Alan lied.
Technically, he was telling the truth and a lie at the same time.
“There is no trace of her in the pack. You must’ve mistook her for someone else.”
“Are you telling me that this right here is a mistake?!” he yelled, throwing Kimberly’s shirt on Alan’s face.
“It has her scent all over it and you’re telling me otherwise... You know I can go into that pack and burn down every house if I have to, in search of her.” he growled, his claws already extending.
“I’m only keeping my cool because of the damn agreement that was signed years ago!”
He turned his study desk upside down, his eyes flickering from brown to yellow.
Alan could understand why he was reacting this way. This was his mate they were talking about. To be honest, when he inhaled the shirt Hugh threw at him, he was beyond shocked because, Kimberly’s scent was exactly like her mom. How did he miss that obvious detail when he met her the other day? This is quite complicated. How was he supposed to tell Hugh that this shirt doesn’t belong to Hailey but her daughter, and to make matters worse, he was also mated to her.
“Is there something you’re not telling me?” Hugh asked in a menacing tone, as he stalked towards Alan.
“Your beloved nephew has my mate, isn’t it?”
“Hugh, you need to calm down so I can explain everything to you.”
“You’re telling me to calm down when your fucking favorite nephew has my mate!” he yelled, paying no attention to Alan’s words.
Alan knew that Hugh has always been jealous of the fact that he was now close to Roy and he uses every slight opportunity to express his distaste about it.
“The lady under Roy’s care isn’t Hailey but her daughter, Kimberly, and…” Alan trailed.
“She is his mate.”
“Then why the hell do I feel like she’s my mate?!”
He smashed his fist on the wall.
That was the problem Alan had with Hugh. His temper. It was something Hugh was barely able to control. Taking a deep breath, Alan replied,
“That’s because… she is also your mate.”
